Some people forget the affect music has on us. I am thankful to have had the pleasure of being entertained and moved by Mr. Barry's music. I hope that grief will be replaced by good memories and the knowledge found at Psalms 37:10,11 that we can live forever on a peaceful clean earth.

Sincerely,

My sincere sympathy to the family of John Barry. It is indeed a sad day for all who loved him through his beautiful scores.
I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to rehearse and conduct "Somewhere in Time" with the Dagenham Crusaders of London in Scotland in 1985.
The deafening standing ovation was most fitting for this sensitive loving composistion.
Mr. Barry, You shall always be with us "Somewhere in Time"
February 10, 2011
Dear John Barry,

I can't believe that you died. You were one of my favorite composers of all time. Your score to Out of Africa, Born Free, The Lion in Winter, and Dances with Wolves are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. You rank right up there with Max Steiner as one of the best composers of all time. Your death has saddened me beyond words. It was the same sadness I felt when Jean Simmons died last year. Shock and sadness. I send my condolences to your family and may God comfort your family at this time. Rest in peace.
February 09, 2011
This man brought endless inspiration to me. If it was not for his spiritual understanding of the mind, heart and pure beauty of life, I would have not appreciated life as fully as I do now. As I write this, his sounds haunt me. Sorrows lifted by natures grace that someday we might understand as well as John did.

Carry on John, your soul's beauty will live in eternity.

The world has lost a great song writer. I'm so sad that John has passed. Though I never met him, I have enjoyed his music for a long time. I've seen many movies not knowing that he had done the score but as soon as the music started I knew it was his. There is a sound in his music that just fills my heart. He will surely be missed. RIP John.

I am so sorry that I was never able to tell Mr Barry how much his music has meant to me for so many years! I always recognized his music... my heart would know it was his music! The soundtrack to "Somewhere In Time" has been a huge part of my life. We played it for my father when he was in intensive care and the nurses thanked us for helping to calm all of the patients. My husband and I visited Mackinac Island with this music as our accompaniment. My sisters and I played it when we took road trips. It is to be played at my funeral!
Mr. Barry wrote music that was heartfelt and meaningful. He was a very creative and talented man!
I send my deepest sympathies to his family and may it help to know that the world is grieving with you!

I still listen to the entire soundtracks of "Thunderball" and "You Only Live Twice" regularly. I've been doing so for over 40 years! That's longevity. His influence can be heard in a lot of today's movie composers. I worked many years on the Space Shuttle in Florida, and put his music in my head to what I was seeing on location. Thank You John Barry for so much of my favorite music.

With the regretful passing of such a GIANT in the British music and film industry, Mr. Barry deserved a Knighthood from the Queen.

His countless compositions were instantly recognizable when the music started plus he incorporated such a nice selection of instruments, especially in the opening of "Born Free".

John, even though we don't live forever, your wonderful creativity and talent will be enjoyed by future generations around the world!

To the Family & Friends of John Barry,
The world has lost a true musical genius. His music graces my collection of film scores and I listen to it often. The movies that he scored would not be the same films without Mr. Barry's wonderful contributions. My Thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time, but know that his marvelous legacy will live as long as the movies he scored survive. His music is perfection and the film and music industries have lost a great man.
Sincerely,

While deeply saddened by his passing--grieved by the grim reality that no more notes will flow from his pen--I remain unspeakably grateful for the rich musical legacy he has left for us to enjoy so long as we ourselves draw breath!

My deepest sympathies. My prayers are for the Barry family and friends. (Psalms 37:10,11) says: And just a little while longer and the wicked one will be no more. And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth. And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

A 007 movie without a John Barry score is as bad as not having
Sean Connery as James Bond. John Barry will be missed.

What an amazing talent John was. It is facinating to learn about the man behind such memorable musical movie soundtracks. May the words at Revelation 21:4 bring your family comfort. It talks of a time when a wonderful promise will be fullfilled, "God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain anymore. The former things have passed away."
January 31, 2011
Ever since hearing Goldfinger at the age of 11, John Barry became my favorite film composer of all time. While every one of the Bond themes are tremendous, there was no mistaking the Barry touch with all the other compositions. Gratefully, he previously overcame a serious illness some years ago that enabled him to further receive honors and recognition including the BAFTA Lifetime award. Good sir, Bless you for the joy your music has and will continue to bring us. We will miss you.

To all music lovers:

It is rare privilege indeed to have lived in an era when John Barry was writing his brilliant and evocative music!

At a time when fine music is enjoyed, but not often written or conducted, this is a very deep loss to all true music lovers.

My condolences to all of his family and to all those who knew this musical genius. I shall miss his writing but shall cherish his music forever.

As one of his greatest themes for the movie—"Somewhere in Time" states, we shall meet once again. Thank you John Barry for all of your great and enduring musical memories...

I always hoped to have the opportunity see John in concert and hear the orchestra live...I love everything he did with the James Bond scores, Somewhere in Time, Body Heat, and The Specialist for the sensuous sounds they evoke time and time again...I have listened to his music since 1964 at age 11 and still find it fresh and new to my ears...No one has ever mastered the style & sound of music that he brought to each of these movies, TV shows, etc
It could only have been John Barry!
January 31, 2011
Having been introduced to John Barry's music as a pre-teen in the mid-1960s, he is easily my favorite of any film composer working during my lifetime..Lush, lovely melodies. His best score was SOMEWHERE IN TIME - what genius to pair his own music with that of Rachmaninoff!!! And when my cell-phone rings, there's Shirley Bassey belting "Goldfinger." Mr. Barry will be missed, but the music lives on.

Definitely one of the greatest score composers of all time. He will be missed. The obituary here didn't mention two of his, in my opinion, most moving works: The score for the movie "FRANCES", and the made-for-TV "ELEANOR AND FRANKLIN" movies (parts 1 and 2).

To the Barry Family,

I will never forget meeting him at the Nassau Inn, where I formerly worked and recieving a CD for his best work of Born Free and Dances with Wolves, as well as Body Heat. He asked about me several times when I was not working and it was a honor to meet his family as I held a table for five one saturday afternoon several years ago as I believe his grandchild was going to Lawrenceville Prep. May God Bless You All and May He Rest in Peace in the New Jerusalem in Paradise with all those other Composers who went before him. Farewell to the man who made James Bond.

John Barry was far and away my favorite modern composer. His music, especially "Dances With Wolves", will live forever. RIP, Mr. Barry.
January 31, 2011
Mr. John Barry,

Thank you very much, Mr. Barry, for the many marvelous movie musical memories. As much as I enjoyed the rousing Bond themes, I enjoyed even more the lovely, melancholy melodies from films such as Midnight Cowboy (the main theme); Mary, Queen of Scots (This Way, Mary); Somewhere in Time; and Out of Africa. One of my all-time favorite recordings is the late Matt Monro's beautiful version of From Russia, With Love.

What a wonderful and precious legacy you've left for your fans of this and future generations! You're music is indeed timeless.

May God rest your gentle soul.
January 31, 2011

Even though the music for the James Bond films is outstanding it is the score for "Somewhere In Time" that touch the deep part of my heart. This is especially true since I lost my husband in 2010. Thank you for giving the world such a beautiful legacy. You will live on through your music.
January 31, 2011
Commentators have often said, over the years, that if Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart were alive today they would be writing scores for movies. Mr. Barry's beautiful, lush and powerful compositions certainly lend credance to that statement. In my book he sits with these masters. I have enjoyed his music for many years. Rest peacefully Mr. Barry and know that your work will endure through the ages
January 31, 2011
My heartfelt thanks for making this world a better place due to your music. I have more of your music picked out for my own memorial service than anyone elses. It soothes my soul, brings smiles and happiness and hope to my existing life. Thanks for sharing your gift.
