Julie and I corresponded thru letters and postcards...she never forgot my birthday. what a superb actress, beautiful speaking voice. you earned every award given you...and happy to read your contributions to the theatre in cape cod. you will be truly missed..."Eleanor" thank you for the memories. love and rip beautiful.

Your a wonderful actress, whom I will forever remember as Eleanor Lance in the horror film, THE Haunting. Also, as Lily Mae Clemmons on Knots Landing.
I will forever remember your sweetness and kindness, in yourself, and your characters. Your a beautiful soul, gone home now.
Rest in Eternal Peace.
Happy (what would have been) 88th birthday to Ms. Julia Ann Harris!
Your family, friends, and fans---
actually to you, one and the same---
were all the better for having you
with us for as long as we did.
I remember Julie Harris in so many wonderful roles. My favorite was as Abra in East of Eden. She and James Dean were magnificent in that film. Both were able to portray such vulnerability and humanity in their roles. Both angels then and now.
I had the most wonderful opportunity to see Miss Harris in plays here in Seattle: The Scent of the Rose and The Belle of Amherst. I would send her flowers when she was in town to perform. I would receive the kindest notes from her. I had the opportunity to meet her and actually have my picture taken with her. We would exchange greeting cards. I was so sad to learn of her passing. I remember her when I was a child and she put on such wonderful performances on TV: Victoria Regina et al. God Bless you Miss Harris. We truly miss you. Michael Bachison (Seattle,WA)
She was my favorite actress from the time I was a child. I was always so touched by her performances in films, TV shows and the Broadway plays I was only able to see televised. But... I got to see her in the late 1980s in Cleveland when she toured with Driving Miss Daisy. I was so thrilled. I remember thinking though that she was not so recognizable in her wig and costume yet the voice was Julie. And when the play ended, Brock Peters, Stephen Root and Julie came back out on stage, Julie without the wig and there she was with her gorgeous red hair. The memory of seeing Miss Julie Harris perform was magic. I wish I could have gone to more performances it oh so grateful for those films.
THANK YOU GOD FOR GIVING US JUILE HARRIS. UNFORGETABLE.
In a darker part of my early life, a performance of Ms. Harris left me with such an uplifting and enlightening experience that brought me to a plateau of new understanding and assurance that there is always "Wonder" about us.
I'll be eternally grateful. I imagine her coming onstage again into a new, untried dimension after making her final curtain call here....
I am so blessed to have known such a fine woman. Grace and talent, a gem for sure. My parents had the pleasure to meet with her after one of her many one woman shows. All she did was talk about me, as if I could hold a candle to that. It was memorable for them, and humbling for me. I will miss her dearly. Sincerely, Godspeed , Lisa Israel
I grew up knowing a bit about you from Miss Ida May Wilkinson who came from your home in New York to Franklin, Virginia, each summer to visit her mother, brother, sister-in-law, and niece and nephew who were my family's next-door neighbors.
While Miss Ida May didn't really "talk" about you and certainly not about your parents, she would sometimes share the title of a special book or a recipe that "my young friend Peter" liked. I was in college before my mother explained to me that Peter was you!
Along with the rest of the world, I was a great admirer of your mother, so much so that for my 50th birthday, my wife treated me to a trip to New York to see your mother and Mr. Charles Durning in GIN GAME. We sat on the front row--enthralled. I also saw your mother and Morgan Freeman in Baltimore in DRIVING MISS DAISY--only two chairs and two great actors creating magic on a stage.
My wife Deborah and I (now retired 40-years-apiece-veterans of high school English classrooms) are forever indebted to your mother, for she brought Miss Dickinson to life for us and for our students on film year after year.
Thank you for sharing your mother with the world. I send you my sincerest sympathy.
The theater won't be quite the same. Even when she wasn't performing, it was always a thrill to think she might appear somewhere soon. A bit of a hole in the heart.
To the family of Julie Harris.
I am very sorry for the loss of Julie.
She entertained us for many of years and it was a joy to watch her.
May the family find comfort in each other and
in our Creator who comfort us in difficult
times as these.
Ms. Harris illuminated the human heart in ways that few actors can ever achieve. I will always treasure her performances--you were not just an observer for she took you along on the journeys of her characters and you immediately felt their joys and despair. Luminous is the word that most frequently comes to mind because her own generous heart illuminated the lives of those who she portrayed on stage. I hope her friends and family will take comfort in all that she gave to the world.
Eleanor darling, you have finally come home, to Parardise. GOD in his infinite wisdom, has created Ms. Harris and within her, has left us a legacy to behold forevermore....Godspeed, Ms. Harris, break a leg, and most importantly my heartfelt and most sincerest admiration and thanks. For Peter dear, Your beautiful mother has elevated us all. Judith MEKUSKY-Gerardo, Petersham, Ma, formerly New York. ..PS. In this precious late summer New England sky, I though I saw a shooting star, oh so very high.....Perfection
Peter. So sad to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope you are well.
Your old friend,
Rest in Peace Julie.....you will always be remembered x

talented...and very classy.

Take comfort in the promise God gives us, that one day,
no resident will say "I am sick" but all can look forward
to the opportunity to live forever. (John 17:3)
A true professional and classy actress. I was moved by her honest emotion when she broke down at the end of the audio recording of Anne Frank's Diary.
Living for two decades in Grosse Pointe Park nearby what many years earlier had been the childhood home of Ms. Harris, I have for three times as long been utterly astonished by her stage (Belle of Amherst, Glass Menagerie), film (Member of the Wedding, East of Eden, Haunting, Reflections in a Golden Eye), and television (Victoria Regina) performances, recordings (Stuart Little, Dracula), and co-written book for young actors. Privileged to have met her---and some of her family members---a few times and often exchanged correspondence, I became as much impressed by the consistency of her gracious kindness as her forever stellar acting. Generous with her time and energy no matter what, she was so genuinely her own dear unassuming courteous self during our on again/off again but always delightful exchanges. In every way a class act, she shared the ineffable humanity of each of her wide-ranging characters as well as that within her very self. I am but one of many all that much better for it. Saddened by her death, I shall forever miss our personal connection. Despite that abiding sense of loss, I will continue to cherish the legacy she leaves behind for me and other devoted fans as well as future audiences yet coming to love her. As you have blessed us during your eighty-seven year lifetime and enjoyed career, so are you, Julia Ann Harris, also blessed.
Jule Harris appeared in my life several times —always with love and respect. She took great interest in me as a teenager. Later, she was the subject of a profile I wrote. At other times, she was a warm and understanding friend. For more reasons than I can count, she deserves to be remembered, not just as one of the great actresses ever to appear on stage and in films, but as a wonderful, powerful little woman with a beautiful, giving heart. She will be deeply missed.
Julie was incredibly special as a person and, of course, as an actress. She loved her work so intensely and her audiences felt that love whether from the stage or from a screen. I feel lucky to have been her friend. My condolences to Peter, Richard, and to Francesca and to all who loved her.
The only bit of light in the sad news of Ms. Harris passing is the memory of her many stellar performances. Such a light of giving so much to all of us will shine for a very long time.
Thank you Miss Harris for all of the joy that you brought me in watching your performances. When I saw you in "East of Eden" I was entranced. RIP lovely lady. My condolences to the family and friends of this beautiful woman.
There will never be another like Ms. Harris. An amazing actress and person. So sad but she had a long and incredible life. Thank you for sharing your talents. Darren
My thoughts are with you. I have so many wonderful and loving memories of your mother. I'm so luck to have saved years of cards from "Aunt Julie" ... detailing milestones in her life and holiday/birthday greetings.
So sad, that she is no longer here, and for the years I haven't seen her.
Thank you Julie for your thoughtfulness and inspiration. For the days spent in the UN Park and baking cookies together in your townhouse in the East 50's, when I was a little girl. For the years of remembering my birthday, and always thanking me for sending you a birthday card. For all your warm and loving greetings, when I visited you backstage.
I hope there's a heaven and you are with those you hold dear ... including your Yorkie Theresa.

So sorry to hear of Ms. Harris' death. I consider it an honor and privilege to have been entertained by her throughout the years. She was one of the greatest! May this family find comfort from the appropriate words recorded at Ecclesiastes 9:10. May I join this family in cherishing the time spent with Julie Harris being entertained by her with all she had!
Miss Harris has gone, as Emily Dickinson wrote, to the "sequel that stands beyond" where His eye is on this gentle sparrow for eternity.
My sympathy to her family, friends and the theater community wherever it may be in the world.
RIP Pretty lady......you will always be Lily Mae to us......always looked forward to seeing you each week on Knots Landing....we love you....to the family and friends.....take comfort in knowing that there are Angels here on earth to help you all in your time of need.....

So very sorry to read of the passing of Ms. Harris. She was a wonderful actress and I always loved and enjoyed seeing her in all she did. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. We have again lost another great in the entertainment industry - one that will be greatly missed - but not forgotten. May she R.I.P.
Loved her in knots landing and east of eden. She was a beautiful soul. She will me missed. My prayers and thoughts are with her family at this time.
As a teenager I first saw her on tv. She was on "Rawhide" opposite Clint Eastwood & a movie called "The Haunting." My first thought of seeing her was "she is so beautiful, there is something really beautiful about this lady." I'm 57 now & I can remember the thoughts at those exact times. I never saw her in a play, however I know she was the only character that i would focus on no matter who else was present. She was indeed one of God's gifts to us. Something about her that made this poor sad girl feel good about herself. I don't think it was the characters she played, I think it was simply her presence. I saw such beauty. I think "GOD HAS CALLED HIS ANGEL HOME.'
I had the great privilege of seeing Ms. Harris twice in person in Driving Miss Daisy and Lettice and Lovage. She will be missed.
Loved her as Betsy in the "Hiding Place"
movie, based on the life of corrie ten Boom and her family.
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
Loved Ms. Harris in "East of Eden" & "Knots Landing".. may she rest in peace. Condolences to her family.
What a remarkable actress May she rest in Heaven.
I am so sorry to learn of Ms. Harris' passing. She was a wonderful actress and I have enjoyed her performances since I was a little girl. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
JULIE HARRIS MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE. GOD BLESS. AND MAY YOUR LOVE ONES FIND PEACE IN THIER HEARTS.
Rest in peace. My thoughts & prayers go out to the family, friends and fans of Julie.
You were luminous on stage where I saw you twice. You were just as unforgettable in "East of Eden," "You're A Big Boy Now," "The Haunting," and "Member of the Wedding." And you were courageous in the face of serious illness. Thank you for everything, Ms. Harris. RIP. Condolences to your family, friends, colleagues, and admirers everywhere.
Thank you Julie Harris for all the joy you brought with you wonderful acting and life.
To Julie Harris,
You were a very talented actress. My prayers go to you, your family, and collegues. Lisa Weiner

Thank you for sharing your beauty and talent with the world. You were a class act. Godspeed Julie.
BLOODY GOOD ACTRESS..her peers awarded her work, KNOWING IT. The audience sensed it, as she WAS the individual she took on from the written word. If as quoted, she found God in acting, her prayer was answered, & we were blessed with her efforts.
Great lady all high class acting. PM Danville, Va.
Remembering a great actress and beautiful lady who entertained and supported the arts for many years. Also a great lady who enjoyed Cape Cod and shared in it's gifts and treasures. May God bless her soul and rest in peace..... Bernie from Boston
Such a talent, such a sweet presence in our world. We already miss you here.
I will never forget your grace and talent, Miss Harris! Your performance in "The Haunting" is so real and compelling that it scares me to think of watching it again! You brought that realism to each of your roles. May you be with God now, and may your family be comforted by knowing how much joy you brought to all who watched you!
For me Julie Harris will always be Eleanor Vance in The Haunting, a movie that has always intrigued and fascinated me for the power of its mood and its acting, especially Julie Harris' portrayal. I always watch this movie every year around Halloween as a kind of tradition. This year I will watch it with special reverence for Ms. Harris and drink a toast to her memory. God bless you dear and may you find the peace we all seek. - Christopher
I loved Julie Harris, as an actress so much, that I named my daughter "Julie" and my son "Harris" ... Please know that you brought so much joy to your fans throughout the years ... may you Rest In Peace
I loved Julie Harris! What a talented actress. I loved all her moments on screen especially "East of Eden" and "A Member of the Wedding".I can't believe she was 24 years of age playing a 12 year old = proof of her greatness! The adaptations of great material, her timing, her natural beauty, she was smart and had wonderful instinct for acting. The whole Actors Studio crew were so talented in the late 50's early 60's.Her voice was so calming when narrating,so expressive. I wish I could have seen her live on stage. I have to say Bette Davis, Meryl Streep and Julie Harris are among my favorites. Good or evil characters= just fantastic energy, always believable. Her energy continues on recorded films and out in the Universe in some other form I am sure, what a blessing, giving hope to younger actors of what true acting can convey, such memorable characters, long after you've left the theater, we are still remarking, because you were "remarkable" ~:) Prayers going out to her loved ones.
Every Thursday was Knots Landing time,Great Actress.R.I.P. Mrs.Julie.
I loved Julie Harris from the first time I saw her. Her attractions were her innocent persona and her feminine savvy. "East Of Eden" and "Requiem", among other films, remain her great work on screen. She was a beautiful person, and greatly blessed with talent! And, she will be missed by many. Thank you for sharing your beauty and talents with us, your fans! You will be remembered always.
Julie knocked my socks off in Member of the Wedding. She was terrific in East of Eden and that could well apply to every part she ever stepped into. She played the part of Betsy in the Hiding Place and created yet another unforgettable character. She was Mrs. Taft in Backstairs at the White House and etched yet another stellar memory. Prayers for her many friends, family and fans!
You were such a fabulous actress. Rest in Peace.
I remember her in Knotts Landing. She was Val's mother right. To the family, so sorry about your lost.
Thoughts, prayers & condolences to the family, friends, and collegues of the wonderful Julie Harris. She truly deserved all the awards she received for her beautiful acting. I remember her best for her movie performances in "Member of the Wedding", "East of Eden" and "Reflections in a Golden Eye." We have lost an American treasure, but she will be remembered through her iconic body of work.
I had the honor of seeing Ms. Harris live in "The Belle of Amherst"and as a scholar of Emily Dickinson and retired teacher she was magnificent!! She was Emily or as one would think of Emily!! She is a legendary actress and will be sorely missed!!

Thank you for your gift ~ Rest in peace.
She gave great enjoyment to many, many people...a great talent...condolences to her family and friends...RIP!
RIP Julie. I've always enjoyed your performances especially in Knots Landing.
To an interesting actress in the vein of Rita Tushingham, they looked a lot alike. I remember Julie quite well, in "East of Eden", and although not a knock out beauty, there was and earnestness about her deep soul searching honesty, she brought to her roles. I remember when she did episodes for "The Twilight Zone", the "Outer Limits", and countless others. She, I think, deep down, knew she wasn't a glamor puss, she just wanted to give an honest, good, reality, to the parts, she took on, and when she did take a part, she lived, breathed, and you felt she was the character she was portraying. The pretty or nice looking gals may have gotten the attention, but with Julie's performance, you remembered her, she reached the foundation and the basement of your soul. When she acted, you could tell she was pouring her heart out, so to speak. She will be on my list of actresses that COULD ACT, and a memorable one. Sure am going to miss her and her talent.
another great icon has passed may you rest in peace..............
Heaven has another beautiful Angel!
in God's care rest in peace
I REMEMBER WHEN I SEEN "EAST OF EDEN" I THOUGHT THAT YOU WERE WONDERFUL. ALSO, OVER THE YEARS, EVERYTHING ELSE THAT YOU PERFORMED IN...YOU WERE MAGNIFICENT. NOW YOU ARE WITH JAMES DEAN AGAIN. MAY GOD BLESS YOU. A VERY ARDENT FAN OVER THE YEARS. SANDRA SLATER, LOUISVILLE KY 40215
