The knowledge this wonderful woman was blessed with was incredible. She was truly a God sent lady that helped so many children and so many mothers. I was so blessed by having her as my children's doctor. I will always be grateful to her for how she helped me do the best I could do in raising my children. The world is at a great loss, she was the best.

Dr Denmark,
Sounds like You were the Mother Theresa in Medicine.
Pls save me a seat next to yours for when I get home!

I first saw reference to Dr. Denmark in a Los Angeles Times full page ad by Merck, in September 15,1999. I was so impressed that I kept the ad and gave it to my mother. Today, as I was going through my mother's papers, I retrieved it. Showing her the paper today, I wondered aloud if the good doctor was still alived. Five minutes ago, I found her obituary. She was truly a most remarkable woman.

Such a warm, smart, and personable woman! I think of her often even after just a short but meaningful visit with her in her living room after she had retired! She sold me one of her books for $12 and offered me lots of free, back to basics advice about my then 2 children!

I am sure she is bouncing a baby on her lap in heaven!

My brother, Kenneth, was borned in 1952. He was very weak and did not grow normally. At 9 months, he could not sit or hold up his head. My parents took him to numerous doctors...none of them could make a diagnosis. A friend that worked with my Daddy told him about Dr. Denmark. They were able to get an appointment with Dr. Denmark that same day. She check Kenny thoroughly and within a very short time advised my parents of her findings! Kenny had only half a heart! To make the situation even more critical, he had developed pneumonia. She gave them prescriptions but told them to only get them half filled! Baby Kenny passed away early the next morning. I took my daughter and son to her when they were very young. I'll never forgot her first words of advice..."take that ugly thing out of her mouth" referring to "the pacifier"!...and I did just as I was told!

WONDERFUL LADY AND INCREDIBLE DOCTOR!!!
We will always be grateful for her and will NEVER forget her!!!

Doctor Denmark challenged us to be practical, instead of looking to current, worldly wisdom, in our parenting. What a blessing of God's mercy on us to have her in our hearts and together in heaven for eternity!

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

To the family and friends of Dr. Leila Denmark,
Those who die God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes - Psalm 116:15.

I didn't know Dr. Denmark, but she sounds like a remarkable woman who served others as God would have us serve. I also had a woman pediatrician during the 1950s and 1960s, a time when women MDs were still fairly rare. May Christ's love be with Dr. Denmark's family. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
April 16, 2012
Dr. Denmark was my doctor from the time I was 2 until I was an adult. When my 1st child was born I took her to see Dr. Denmark until she moved to Cumming, Ga. She will be truly missed.

April 08, 2012
I first met Dr. Denmark in 1971 when my family and I moved from Boston to Atlanta. I was a pediatric cardiologist at Egleston Childrens' Hospital. I remember her as a no nonsense but exremely kind person. When ever I lectured or spoke at Grand Rounds she would invariably come up afterwards and say how much she had enjoyed what I had said and how much she had learned. That meant a great deal to me and I've never forgotten that kindness. She was a remarkable person and physician.

I am so thankful that Dr. Denmark was a part of my life. My mother started taking me to her when I was a baby when we would visit my grandmother in Marietta. Dr. Denmark was a very caring, but a no nonsense person. She expected parents to follow her directions to the tee. I will never forget her kindness. She was truly a saint!
April 07, 2012
I am thankful to Dr. Denmark for saving my life as an infant. She revived me when I became quite ill and unable to breathe. She was a very generous person giving her time weekly to help poor children at the free Baby Clinic at Central Presbyterian Church. She was a remarkable women who touched so many lives.

Dr. Denmark was my pediatrician, my mothers, and my grandmothers. I had always dreamed about taking my children to see her to add a 4th generation, but she will be involved in their raising in spirit (when I have them eventually). I have fond memories of playing in the garden behind the office if I had been good during the check-up. One of the things that has always stuck with me is how such a tiny lady had such a grip of steel! You were GOING to get your throat swabbed, whether you wanted to or not!
April 06, 2012
As a first grader in 1953 I was a sickly child. Allergies and bouts of asthma caused me to miss school regularly. My parents finally took me to Dr. Denmark who diagnosed my milk allergy, got me on a healthful diet with lots of outdoor exercise and fresh vegetables. Asthma attacks went away and allergies became rare and mild. My parents and I always credited her diagnostic acumen with turning my health around. I am now 65 and have been blessed with excellent health since then. Dr. Denmark was always regarded with great respect and gratitude in my family.
April 06, 2012
A fond memory of mine was going to get my son's file from the old metal file cabinet and writing the information from our visit on his file. Dr. Denmark helped us raise a wonderful son. He was married to his high school sweetheart on 3-31-12, one day before Dr. Denmark's passing. She was a blessing to all. Pat Dugan Rakestraw Dallas, Georgia
April 06, 2012
Dr. Denmark was my brother's pediatrician. He was born with several medical problems as our mother was diabetic. Dr. Denmark had a recipe for formula made from brown rice and honey. It was "just what the doctor ordered". He is now 41 years old. I'm sure she was loved and will be missed.
April 06, 2012
I was born in 1953 and Dr Denmark was my Doctor. I had my tonsils out when I was 3 and when I was admitted the nurse offered me a coke. I told them 'My Dr Denmark says it's not good for me'. She got a kick out of that story when my Mother told her later. My Father remembers being in the waiting room and over-hearing a woman trying to calm down her granddaughter who was going to get a shot. My father said the grandmother kept saying the shot wasn't going to hurt when Dr Denmark came out, and apparently over-hearing said "Oh no Grandmother it's going to hurt." My father loved that story. She was always loving, but always honest. I haven't seen her in more than 50 years but very saddened at her passing. I did read her book, "Every Child Should Have a Chance" when I had children. I had moved to California else I would have tried to have gotten her to at least looked at them from time to time. God bless you and Heaven welcome you Dr Denmark.
April 06, 2012
Though i'm from Indonesia (and therefore never met Dr. Denmark) i have been greatly inspired by this wonderful doctor. i wish there were such a doctor here and now! May God comfort her family during this difficult time.

I remember mom taking my brother Joe to her, he was anemic. He is now 52 first think she said was" this boy is never gonna be healthy Till you quit smoking. Later in my twenties, my roommate had shingles countless drs couldn't get her well she checked us both out $2 each and gave us betalin compound (ugly tasting vitamin liquid) and a vitamin B-12 shot and in a week we were well. So 29 yrs ago my son was sick and wasn't eating well..black eyed peas for each meal even breakfast she made him well again she was taking care of God's angels. Blessed are we who knew her. She was no nonsense and common sense. May God comfort you with memories of her.

To Mary, Steven, James, and your families,
Please know that I am so happy Dr. Denmark is at last in the arms of Jesus. She served Him so faithfully for over 100 years! She GAVE constantly of herself to help each child. She helped us mothers immensely. She was THE expert on baby care, and her own commitment to proper nutrition for herself inspired me to follow her "diet". So, I owe my healthy eating habits and my five contented babies to her wise counsel. It was always such a pleasure to go to the doctor!, and not only see Dr. Denmark, but also hear how she had been helping those waiting. Her humor and faith in God were just another part of an amazing lady.
I pray her Lord will comfort you and give you peace and understanding and gratitude for such a heritage.

Dr. Denmark was a God-send to our family when my son was born in 1977, weeks early.
Nothing would stay down in his tiny body and she made a formula just for him. He is now 6'4 and is a pastor in NYC. We were blessed to have her. Dr. Larry and Sharon Reesor

I briefly met Dr. Denmark at the farmhouse office when I purchased her book as a gift for a new mother. She had an amazing life and helped so many people. She will not be forgotten.
April 05, 2012
Dr. Denmark saved so many lives in our family that we all thought of her as our special guardian from God. It wasn't until I grew up and mentioned her name to others, that I learned ALL her patients felt that way about her. I am so thankful to have had her in our lives and thankful to her daughter for sharing her with us.
April 05, 2012
Dr. Denmark took care of me and my brother from birth through ages 3 and 5 when we moved to another state. My mother always spoke so highly of her. What an amazing woman!

In addition to calling all her children "angels" Dr. Denmark had a way of making me feel so wonderful about my role as a mother. She would hug my children as she treated them as though they were her own. And would always say as I left, "You are doing a wonderful job". I am so blessed to have known her. A candle burns in my home for her today as she is laid to rest. God Bless Her Soul.
April 05, 2012

What a wonderful tribute to Dr. Denmark in this article. She is a true example of what one can do if they love what they're doing. Thank God she could serve as long as she did. I am sure the number she has helped is in the thousands. May she rest in peace with all the angels.

Dr. Lelia was my doctor when I was a child and then my children's. My daughter now almost 30 remembers going to the "little house". The world has lost a great lady, but she left behind quite a testamony. Many lives were touch by her.

she seemed to be an amazing lady....I know she will be missed by many.
April 04, 2012
What a legacy to leave our children and the medical field! A wonderful and long lived life.
April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark was a vital part of both of my boys lives. I treasure the fact that as a mother, I was blessed to enter into her office with a sick child and leave with so much more than just medication. She taught me how to raise my children in a healthy way, a practical way. She will always be remembered as the one who was like a grandmother to all that entered through her doorway. Dr. Denmark was a gift from God to children and their mothers.
April 04, 2012

I'm a nurse now, and I like to tell young doctors in training about Aunt Leila. I have great memories and send my sympathies to her family. Anne Lawrence nee Mustakas

Dr. Denmark was my doctor. I'll never forget when she gave me my Small Pox vacination. One little two little three little indians, four little five little six little indians, seven little eight little nine little indian, ten little Indian boys. I will always remember her!
April 04, 2012
This wonderful woman was a doctor to 3 generations of my family, beginning in 1957, including my 6 siblings, 3 children grandchildren and great nephews and nieces.God bless you Dr. Denmark you are truly at home.
April 04, 2012
I was so blessed to have been given the opportunity to see this wonderful physician when my son was an infant and I was a young, new mother without a clue. Her no-nonsense and back to-the-basics approach to medicine is what is lacking in the medical industry today. If more physicians like Dr. Leila Denmark existed in today's society, our health care system wouldn't be in the crisis situaltion that it is. God bless you Dr. Denmark!
April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark saw God's plan for her life and she accepted it fully and changed numerous lives with her touch! She gave every child a chance, and every mom a direction to follow. God truly used her to bless many! We loved her and appreciated her greatly. Kay mayo
April 04, 2012
Back in 1999, precious Dr. Denmark, then 101, literally healed my 10 week old son of his colic! After seeing her, since our regular pediatrician could not help, he began sleeping through the night! She told me to place that boy on his stomach to sleep, with several towels below his sheet. He slept well from then on! And he adored her "mush!" What a hero she has been for me.
i love her, her advice, and her deep love for children. What a blessing it is to have a signed copy of her book to cherish.
April 04, 2012
There will never be another Denmark. What a blessing to so many. She was my son's peditrician, he is now 38. She still has influence in his life and mine as well. I thank god for sharing her with us.
April 04, 2012
I first met Dr. Denmark at her home office in 1960, when my first child was a one year old and had a rash that wouldn't heal. My Aunt, whose son had been a patient, recommended Dr. Leila to me. Dr. Denmark helped me raise three healthy, beautiful daughters and a son. She was a remarkable person and we not only admired and respected her, but loved her. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
April 04, 2012
I owe my life to Dr. Denmark. I had a heart defect at birth that went unnoticed. My mother's instincts told her something just was not right and took me to Dr. Denmark. This was 1958 and as soon as she laid eyes upon me she told my mother, "This baby has a hole in her heart." With her help and guidance, my mother was able to follow Dr. Denmark's instructions and by the age of 2, the hole was completely gone.

Needless to say, she became the "family pediatrician" and 3 family generations feel very blessed to have had her in our lives. She was the BEST DOCTOR ever and I'm thankful God blessed this world with her time, knowledge and love of children. You will be fondly remembered and missed very much Dr. Denmark.
April 04, 2012
What a truly remarkable woman! The lives she touched, the lives she saved, are a lasting legacy, for each parent and each child will always remember her and pass down their memories of her.
April 04, 2012
She was my doctor as a child, I am now 65. I can remember going to her and we would take our lunch and have a picnic outside her office because you never knew how long you would be away from home, but you don't mind waiting for the best!
April 04, 2012
What an "angel" you are eternal in so many lives.

I realized today as a young girl that I learned of you through formerly Henrietta Elgston.

Also, when I had a child - I took her a few times to see you. She is now twenty six years old- Ashley ((Barton)

What a good life. What a good profession. God bless her with the attributes of Him. Thank you Jesus.
April 04, 2012
To say that Dr. Denmark was a wonderful and remarkable person would be an understatement. The world has lost a most precious gift and we are blessed to have had her.
I have 4 children, now grown, who all benefited from her care and wisdom.
April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark's life of service to untold numbers of families, was also a service to us all. She obviously found her "true passion" and, some may say, "calling." God bless you: family, for sharing her with the community. Janice L. Cook
April 04, 2012
"Who is my next little angle" was what Dr. Denmark would always say as she called back the next child to be helped. I just gave an autographed copy of her book to my daughter on the birth of her first child. Dr. Denmark had signed it in 1983. What a remarkable lady. She was my "angle" as I was her "little angle"
April 04, 2012
My brother, J. Don Bell, and I were both priviledged to have Dr. Denmark as our physician back in the 50's & 60's when we were growing up in Marietta. I remember Dr. Denmark vividly, and I can still hear her giving instructions to many parents, mine included, (Jesse & Doris Bell), to make sure, (we) the children, went outside daily, no matter the weather, (sunny or stormy).
From my childhood our paths kept crossing. Living now in Sylvania, (not too far from Portal), I've discovered some of her relatives and friends, some in their 100's (having attended Tift college along side of Dr. Denmark). She was a remarkable woman. Her teachings are worth remembering, studying, and following. To her daughter, Mary, all of us in Sylvania are thinking of you and recalling our experiences with Dr. Denmark. It is so amazing how God puts people in the pathway of others. God's 'timing' and 'coordinating relationships' is wonderful. I would count it a joy to hear Dr. Denmark sharing her experiences during the 114 years & 60 days of her life. (When we all get to heaven, what a day that will be!) We are thankful for the love of this physician & friend, Dr. Denmark.
April 04, 2012
Wow what an inspiration to all. This is very touching and has my eyes watering to see the love for patients. May your soul rest in paradise.
April 04, 2012
Read about this wonderful woman on Fox News and had my heart full from knowing her love of people. God bless her family. She will be truely missed and will have a wonderful seat in heaven awaiting her. And I hope many "learn" from her care and endearing nature.
April 04, 2012
My sister was a patient of Dr. Denmark in the early 1970's. She believed in the old-fashion way of doctoring and my sister thrived under her care. RIP Dr. Denmark
April 04, 2012
Dr.Denmark was the Pediatrician for many of my family's children. We took many friends to her, as well. I remember going to her office at her home on Glenridge. You would be waiting to see her and in comes a mama and a newborn child. I don't remember anyone complaining, because everyone knew that the newborn child was about to go to the front of the line. If you took your child to Dr. Denmark , you knew that every child was special to her. Dr. Denmark was special!
April 04, 2012
I had the priviledge of taking my newborn to Dr. Denmark right before she retired. My newborn was stiff as a poker stick. Dr. Denmark told me that everything would be OK when he was 3 months old. At 3 months to the day, she was correct. She also showed me how to diaper him while he was on his stomach, as she felt it was cruel to diaper a child on their back because they felt helpless. Seeing Dr. Denmark was just as much a spiritual event as it was a medical one. She will always be remembered and sorely missed. Rest in peace, Dr. Denmark.
April 04, 2012
I too was diagnosed as allergic to milk by Dr. Denmark at age 4, I had asthma and the dairy made it worse...she changed my life....she was very candid and straight forward in her approach to the child's parent. What a great legacy she left behind
April 04, 2012
My husband's family, from Tucker area, were patients of Dr. Denmark back in the 50's & 60's. My mother-in-law raised 5 children on her advice. I agree, we need more doctors like her. She will wear jewels in her crown, as my grandmother use to say. The Lord has called her home as her duty here on earth is done, and done well. God Bless her family at this time and let them find comfort knowing she was one of a kind and a blessing to many.
April 04, 2012
She diagnosed my husband as being allergic to milk as an infant. His mother took him to Atlant to see her in 1945-46 and she literally saved his life. We also have her book. Never got to meet her myself, but LOVED her.

To Mary and Family,
Your mother saved my brother's life and was my only real physician as a child and even as a teen. I saw her at her home and even at the free clinic she volunteered in. She was always so very kind and wonderful. I have long bragged on her to anyone who would listen to be talk about MY pediatrician. My father was also her patient and my grandmother also credited Dr. Denmark with having saved his life. She was a Godly woman whom has blessed many of us here in Georgia.

Dear Mary and Family,
You are known to me because of your mother. Your name (Mary) was mention, each time I was Dr. Demark with such love and affection. My husband and I adopted two beautiful children in 1962 and 1967.Being so young with no
knowledge of what child rearing was about;your mother was the "North Star"
pointing a direction for me. Thank you and your father for sharing her with all of humanity. My son John died in 2008 from an accident. Hope your mother meets him in heaven and looks at him as an eartly job well done. Mary please write a book on your mother's example of how to live life. This genertion does not know the basic rules of how to live. May
God shine his light on you and your family. Much Love, Rachel and Garrett Laubach, Dunwoody, Georgia

Dr. Denmark treated my brothers 60 years ago and I often heard my mother say, "Dr. Denmark said ..." I am so glad she wrote her book. I bought it a few years ago for my daughter. The information provided was just as valuable today as it was 60 years ago. I have followed her life over the last few years and wished that I had been able to talk to her. I hope the family has comfort during this time of bereavement.
April 04, 2012
...you touched so many lives, as you will continue to do so in our hearts.

Mary and family, Dr. Denmark meant so very much to so many young children like me and my siblings. She gave us health and inspiration as well. As a young mother in Florida I bought her book and raised my sons with Dr. Denmark's advice. She saw my oldest at 12 months and told me to take him home to FL, love him and teach him to respect his body and his peers. He is now a professor of Physics in Bristol VA. a PHD who makes life matter. Thank you Dr. Denmark for your dedication to healthy children! My deepest sympathies to the family. Dr. Denmark was a beautiful and remarkable person. I had the great fortune to be a part of Georgia's pediatrician's program, and Dr. Denmark was on the program, too. I consider this one of the highlights of my professional and personal life. Dr. Denmark served others throughout her entire life because her presence was such an inspiration to all.

Forsyth County has lost one of its most distinguished citizens. I never had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Denmark, but knew of her and was in awe of her accomplishments and number of years caring for the people of this area. She was truly a remarkable person. My deepest sympathies to her family.
April 04, 2012
As an Obstetrician when I started early 80s, I had the honor of talking to her regarding a mutual patient. The voice and conversation was so polite, that I intended to meet her in her office, which she welcomed, but we never got around to do it 'cause of our schedules. For those multiple mutual patients I had, they bragged every moment they had with her. She was a shining example of what every physician strives to be.

I have never met Dr. Denmark, but my Grandmother, Dr. Lila Bonner Miller, was a good friend and stories abound in my family about taking babies to see her. I believe they both worked at Grady around the same time. No non-sense was the hallmark of her care from what I hear. We could use more doctors like her today.
April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark told me to never teach my children to blame the things they did on other people-to accept their mistakes and move on. I have never forgotten that advise and will NEVER forget the precious lady with the white hair and caring eyes. She was a gift.
April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark was my daughter's first pediatrician in 1990 before we had to move. I will never forget her sage advice. Rest in peace, Leila.
April 04, 2012
I, too will morn Dr. Denmark; express
condolences to her family. What a joy she was to all of us who knew her. We will continue to celebrate her life, and be thankful for the lessons she taught us. I, and 2 of my brothers was doctored by her in the 40's & 50's; and my daughter,Jynelle was her patient from 1970 to 1983, to age 18. When Jynelle got pin-worms at age 6, Dr. Denmark gave me medicine for the whole family, to keep all of us well. She told me to let Jynelle go barefoot to correct several problems with her feet-and it worked. Bananas, rice, oatmeal and applesauce, good for vomiting and diarrhea, and by all means take her with us on a camping trip, with 2 buckets {1 for each end}.
How we trusted the wonderful doctor! Dr. Denmark also corrected Jynelle's kidney problem at Egleston hospital. I will never forget our angel doctor. What memories for all of us. {Jynelle passed away in Oct 2009}.
April 04, 2012
Dr Denmark,
What an example you are! Thanks be to God for the example and motivation to serve others and not our own desires. What other reason do we exist than to serve, others and the one who made us and sustains us.
April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark was my children's pediatrician for several years before we moved to Florida. She taught me so much about raising my children. She was always plain and to the point, and she always had time for us on a 24/7 basis. Along with her medical wisdom, she always had a sermonette to give while my children were with her. I will never forget her , for she is my earthly hero. Oh that we had more wise, dedicated, and truly caring doctors like Dr. Denmark. She will be missed greatly. Much, much more could be said about her...such a great legacy has she left us. Don't forget to read her book, as I gleaned a lot of wisdom from it. I would like to express my sincere sympathy to her beloved family....you have been truly blessed!

She saved the life of a dear friend of mine from an out of control salmonia infection when she was 104. God bless you Dr. Denmark and thank you for recording your wisdom in your books.
April 04, 2012
My daughter and I were blessed to have met Dr. Denmark and to receive her sage advice on the rearing of young girls. She charged me $10 for a complete exam, blood test and counseling session in 1995. I tried to give her $20, but she didn't have any change and told me that she'd hate to meet St. Peter at the gates of Heaven if he had to say to her, "You still owe Mrs. Howard $10!" I'm sure her let her in without any problem. Thanks, Dr. Denmark. It was a privilege.

As a new mother, no one helped me more than Dr. Denmark. We started seeing her when she was 100 years old. Every time someone would say that my crying baby needed to eat or needed a pacifier, I used Dr. Denmark's words and schedule to back up what I was doing. She gave me confidence and the tools I needed to help my children thrive. I feel so blessed to have been able to know her and to learn from her. She was a true treasure and I have no doubt that God has a very special place in heaven for her.
April 04, 2012
What a wonderful journey this woman made in her life time with a gift to so many..Now she rests.
April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark, you encourage all of us who practice the art of medicine. God bless you.
April 04, 2012
"who's the next little angel" I can remember her asking when waiting to be seen. She was my grandmother's doctor, my mother's doctor, my doctor, my children's doctor and for a short time , my granddaughter's doctor. I hope she's found my nanny in heaven. They are two of the greatest women who ever lived. I have Dr. Denmark's picture on my office wall as an inspiration. She is now the "next little angel."
April 04, 2012
Thank you, to her family, for sharing her with us all. I do not know how I would have made it through as a mother-at-home with three small children without her, "raising a child is the most important job in the world," and other sage advice. My grown children all have her book so her amazing legacy will live on through generations in our family. See you in Heaven Dr. Denmark and well done good and faithful servant.

April 04, 2012
Dr. Denmark and my mother were third cousins....all my life I have heard about what a wonderful and caring person she was. Sad to say that I never had the chance to meet her personally. However, I have kept up with her accomplishments through the years and have shared them with my family. She has been admired by her distant relatives in Bulloch County, Ga. and Pasco County, Fla. We are sad at her passing and extend our deepest sympathy to her family.
April 04, 2012
I am sorry that I never met Dr. Denmark, but I certainly admired her from the stories I had heard about her from Steve and Steph and the public record of her amazing and inspirational career. In a time when so many are celebrated so much for so little meaningful accomplishment, Dr. Denmark stands as an inspiration to true commitment to what is really important in life. May the memory of her dedication and accomplishment live forever.

Dr. Denmark was a "Tift Girl", Class of 1922. The crest has the motto, "That our daughters be as cornerstones polished." Dr. Denmark was a shining example of the pinnacle of a polished cornerstone to hundreds of women who called Tift their college home. We will miss her.

To Mrs. Denmark's Family,

I was told today by my mother, that my Aunt took her daughter (my cousin) a very long way to see Dr. Denmark when my cousin was a baby. She wanted the best of care for her child and found that in Dr. Denmark. She was obviously a very beloved woman by all. God bless her and all of her family. I am mailing a copy of the article to my cousin who is now in her seventies - I'm sure she will treasure it always,

Sincerely,

I will always remember Dr. Denmark, circa 1950-51, coming out to the car that my mother had ...I had locked all the doors..and she talked her way into letting me unlock same doors...and giving me a shot...in the back seat of our car...my family went to her in Virginia -Highland and then out in the (then) country Glenridge Road...with the lake over the hill...other great memories...what a great blessing
of a life dedicated to mankind !

This wonderful lady saved my sister's life 60 years ago. Other doctors didn't know what was wrong and the first few minutes we were in her office she told my mother it was polio. The worse kind. With the grace of God and Dr. Denmark my sister was cured and shows no signs of it today. I remember her well. May you rest in God's arms Dr. Denmark:)

What a wonderful women Dr. Leila Denmark was. She was lucky to live 114 years.I know that she was a doctor who loved children and did everything she could do to keep them happy and healthy. I know that she is in a better place. My heart belongs to her family at this sad time.

An old man now, I was a patient of Dr. Denmark as a child. I have no recollection of those visits but my mother used to tell of Dr. Denmark's bedside manner, no nonsense cures and I grew up healthy and respectful of her even if I didn't remember her. May her good deeds, compassion and skill be reverred by a healthy and grateful Atlanta senior generation. RIP
April 03, 2012
Dear Mary and Family,
Dr. Denmark was a American national treasure. She will be sorely missed.
She gave me much help and encouragement as a young mother of two rambunctious boys. She added a lot of class and prestige to the role of motherhood. I always felt encouraged by her wise counsel. Perhaps God rewarded her with such a long life because she helped so many children and parents. I thought of her on Sunday night, April 1, 2012, when the 60 Minutes T. V. show had a set of doctors who have done studies showing the ingestion of sugary drinks leads to heart disease. Dr. Denmark warned us of that danger along with many other admonitions to follow a healthy lifestyle. She was way ahead of her time. Our deepest condolences to you in your loss.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rebecca Pinckney, Fred, Steven and Andrew

What a light from heaven she was and is!
Few people in this world have inspired, taught and lived as well as Dr. Denmark. We loved her and are so thankful & blessed to have been one of the families that she helped. There certainly is a huge void on this earth now! Forever in our hearts and memories with love and admiration.

April 03, 2012
I am forever blessed to have known Dr. Leila Denmark. I first met her when my mother took me with my five siblings to the Presbyterian Church to the baby clinic. I was 11 at that time. I will never forget the kindness and firmness of that precious woman. Dr. Denmark was my family's baby doctor for 3 generations, as we continued to take our children to her office in Atlanta and also in Alpharetta, and if she had not retired at the age of 103, she would have been our 4th generation baby doctor. I have a copy of her book and refer to it often. She touched so many lives, many of who have gone on before her, like my little brother Dwight Allmon, who she took special care of. Her crown is full of jewels to be place at the feet of Jesus, and he will say to her, well done my good and faithful servant.
April 03, 2012
Dr. Denmark, a true blessing.....We are so lucky to learn from her. We are forever grateful, she made a big difference in our lives...

Aunt Leila was a very special person in my life and she doctored my family along with being my great great Aunt. I will miss her dearly.
April 03, 2012
My father, a retired pediatrician, took Dr. Denmark's calls on occasion. He and so many other Atlanta pediatricians regarded her with such respect and admiration, as did her patients. What a giving person she obviously was, and what a wonderful example of what a woman can be!
April 03, 2012
Like so many others, I am FOREVER grateful to Dr. Denmark and the wisdom and common sense she offered on raising children. I followed her book and her advice, schedules, sleep patterns, feeding habits (the banana gruel), and my babies were happy, well adjusted and I owe most of it to her, and my dear friend, Jessica who shared the book and Dr. Denmark with me. Enjoy heaven, Dr. Denmark...you served us all well down here.
April 03, 2012

She was my father-in-law's pediatrician and my husbands(in her 80's). His family always said great things about her and gave me an autographed book by Dr. Denmark as a baby gift. Just an extraordinary lady. She will be missed.
April 03, 2012
She was my mother's pediatrician, my pediatrician and my daughter's pediatrician. How blessed we have been to have known her. I remember on occasion if my throat was sore she would do what she called mopping my throat with a long Q-tip! It was amazing because by time my Mom got me home my throat would be all better! She firmly believed in penicillin, so I knew if I was really sick I WAS GETTING A SHOT!!!! I will miss her but I will see her again in Heaven!!!
April 03, 2012
My deepest condolences to Steve and Stephanie, and to all of the family. The Legend of Dr. Denmark will always live on! Thinking of you all this week.

She was my husband's pediatrician. His mother (aged 87) still refers to the things Dr Denmark taught her about raising her three children. She passed a lot of that knowlege to me. The world is a little less rich with the passing of this wonderful woman who taught common sense and love as the best tools of parenthood.
April 03, 2012
My mother took me to Dr Denmark when I was 9 years old and she treated me for anemia. We later took our children to her. So sorry about DR.Denmark.She was a remarkable doctor-one of a kind. I took my eldest son to her in 1957 when he was a few months passed 1 year of age. her recommendation was: dried blackeyed peas, boiled cabbage, meat from boiled chicken necks and backs,3 times a day.No milk or milk products for 1 year.It worked so I will always remember her advice.

She was truly blessed by GOD! I am sorry I never got to meet her!

What an inspiration this awesome lady was to many children and their parents as a wonderful Physician. She was a true angel and now she will continue to smile on us. Many were blessed by having come into contact with her as she provided such comforting treatment and care during her lifetime.
April 03, 2012
I met Dr. Denmark in 1976 at the Presbyterian Clinic. We were in a desparate place health wise and I walked into her room with one child drinking a bottle full of koolaid and a toddler with a pacifier in her mouth. I got quite an ear full, but I left her that day thanking God for the instruction I received. She not only saved the lives of two of my children, she empowered, encouraged and supported me in the raising of my 4 children. By the 1980's I was seeing her in her home and many of my girl friends were taking their children to her also. We felt like a clan of rebels because Dr. Denmarks ways of doing things were different from most other Doctors. But we followed her advise to the letter and became self-confident young mothers. She changed my life. I adored her and hung on her every word. She fulfilled her purpose on this earth and was a true saint. It was an honor to know her and to be under her teaching and care. My deepest condolences to each of the family.

Kindest Regards,

Lou Ann Strauchman Harris

I read the legacy entries about Dr. Denmark and I find that everyone who knew her have a similar wonderful story. My parents told me about this amazing lady when she was my doctor as an infant. She saved my life with her instant wisdom as a doctor. I have followed her during her last years and could only hope and pray that there is someone else to take her place. A truly giving soul who blessed everyone who ever knew her as a patient, a patient parent or friend. She will be truly missed.

My mother took me and my 3 older sisters in the early sixties to see Dr. Denmark. We are 54,52, 49 and 44. I also took my 3 daughters, Olivia, Elise and Naomi to see her when they were little.
It was Dr. Denmark that encouraged my mom when she brought my oldest sister, Elizabeth, who has down syndrome to see her. Back then, most doctors did not see the potential in a down syndrome child and would tell her to put her in a home. Not Dr D! She told my mother, "Oh, you can do so much with this child! She will learn and grow up to help you and your family." And Elizabeth has done just that. Dr. Denmark also encouraged my mom to teach her as much as she could learn. And I will never forget my mom teaching her to recognize words, to cook and clean and was the best baby sitter for my girls when they were infants.
Thank you Dr. Denmark for encouraging so many. You will live on in our hearts.

Dr. Denmark took care of my older sister, me, my children, my sister's children, and my grandchildren. Not only did she take care of them, she helped my whole family. Dr. Denmark's kindness was evident to me as a small child when she treated a me as a little kid. What a full and passionate life she lived.

From my family's arrival in Atlanta in 1968 through high school, Dr. Denmark was my and my older brother Tim's pediatrician. She gave both of us our physical exams for school each year and even prior to entering Berry College in 1977 and 1979. I remember that she used to make us run to the end of her driveway and back at the house on Glenridge in Sandy Springs and do push-ups prior to taking our vital signs. I would say she was old school. And she only charged $7 a visit! (I heard she later changed it to an exorbitant $10.) She used to say "Mr. Denmark makes the money, not me." Her profession was truly a labor of love. I have many other fond memories of this amazing woman that I will always cherish. I'm sorry for your and the world's loss.

Longevity is a blessing from God. Dr. Denmarks was blessed with 114 yrs of special mightiness.(Psalm 90:10) . . .In themselves the days of our years are seventy years; And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. . . .May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well-lived.

I feel a deep love for Dr. Denmark. During a hard time in our lives, our children were among her patients at the Presbyterian Clinic. I saw and heard her help so so many poor and needy. She gave her time there once a week for so many years. I am saddened that her life here is over, but heaven was ready for her and she was ready for heaven. What a difference her life made here on earth! And the world is a better place because of her.

I will be 74 in June and Dr. Denmark was my doctor, as well as my sisters, when we went to the clinic at Grady. My brother and I were patients of Dr. Denmark from the mid 60's until the late 70's. I was crestfallen when I found out that I was "too old" to continue seeing her at age 18! Looking back, I warmly remember her telling my mother that "boys will be boys", "no shot this visit", and "if he wants to eat black eyed peas for breakfast, it's protein - so let him".
Rest in Peace Dr. Denmark from a very grateful former patient and new father!

April 03, 2012
The world is definitely a better place because of Dr. Denmark. She was not only a wonderful doctor with a sixth sense when it came to diagnosing and treating children, but she was concerned with the whole child. She was always available 24/7 if a sick child needed her! In addition to her practice, she worked tirelessly volunteering to treat children whose parents could not afford to bring them to her office. I have so many memories of her as my pediatrician in the 1950's. Her brilliant mind and caring spirit were a blessing to thousands of families. I pray that memories of her wonderful life, and the assurance of the faith on which she built it will bring Mary and the rest of her family comfort and peace. My prayers are with you.

Leila Denmark was a medical school friend of my uncle, Dr J. R. Shannon Mays, a psychiatrist from Macon GA. She was friends with my Mother, Annie Mays Larmore, a city of Atlanta Librarian who is now 105. Dr. Denmark was my pediatrician until I went to Duke University in 1959. What a remarkable life and a wonderful woman and doctor. Her free clinic at Central Pres was a gift to many. She will long be remembered by the Atlanta community.
Condolences to the family, and celebration of a life well lived.

Dr. Denmark was my pediatrician - I'm 70 years old - and my childrens' all through their young years. I still remember her office in her home on Glenridge in Sandy Springs, where you went for the day to wait your turn to see her while all the kids played outside in the woods. Seem to remember she charged $2-$5 a visit. During the visit, she always talked kindly to the kids, encouraging them to make their way through their lives while doing what was right, all while praising their parent on what the parent was doing well. She was so insightful and observant and didn't miss a thing. She was never too busy to answer the phone herself and provide advice and reassurance. There are so many memories. All of our lives have changed so much now, but her wisdom will live on through everyone she touched. God has a special place for you in heaven, Dr. Denmark.
April 03, 2012
My two sisters and I were patients. We are 65, 60, and 51. I can remember going to her house in the 50's and playing in the woods. She was a wonderful person. All of her "kids" will miss her.

Dr. Denmark was my pediatrician almost 60 years ago and I took my oldest son to her when he was a baby. She was a wonderful doctor and I have memories of me and my brother, sister and cousins lining up at her office door to get our summer shots. Rest in Peace, Dr. Denmark. Say hello to my sweet 19-year-old daughter whom I lost 1 month ago. "May light perpetual shine upon her."

I'm so thankful that Dr. Denmark was my pediatrician back in the 1950s. She was always so wise, practical, and gentle. Dr. Denmark was my pediatrician in the 1950s. My parents carried my brother and I to her home/office off Johnson's Ferry Road near Northside Hospital. In the 1970s, my wife Marie and I took our newborn son, Nathan, to her. So kind, so much knowledge, a real Georgia Peach.

I am overwhelmed with memories of Dr. Leila. When we were new Atlantans in search of a good pediatrician for our four sons, I was directed to Dr. Denmark by a friend at church. I called to make an appointment figuring I had reached the receptionist. The woman speaking just giggled at my request for an appointment and said, "You don't need an appointment to see me, you just come in and wait your turn." I thought then that Dr. D was a special kind of doctor. At that first appointment I took in my one-year-old baby who was failing to thrive. Dear Dr. Leila spent an hour with us examing the baby and going over every detail of his little life with me. That's when I knew for sure that I was in the presence of the most special physician I will ever know. (Thanks to her diagnosis and treatment, that little baby is now a thriving USAF Major!) All six children grew in ways more than physical as they took in her words at each visit and I became a better mother because of her. I am so happy seeing her teaching trickling down to my grandchildren. Our family may never be so abundantly blessed by another individual as we have been by her. God bless you Mary and your sons and their families.
April 03, 2012
They just don't make 'em like Dr Denmark anymore! Her doctoring style saw many of us, our kids and grandkids through some really tough periods of illness. Remarkable, caring and concerned doesn't even begin to describe this rare lady. Many of us cried when she stopped doctoring 11 years ago. And unfortunately, many of us will begin that process all over again now that she has left us. Volumes have already been written about Dr. Denmark. Many, many more will follow.

Dr. Denmark was my 6 sons' doctor. (I can still hear her voice asking me when I'd call: "How are the McGaughey boys?") The "boys" are now 41-26 years old! My oldest and she shared the same birthday--February 1st. Even though her life was amazingly long and infinitely rich, still the sadness I feel at her passing is truly a deep one. Thankfully her legacy remains in thousands of hearts--including mine and my sons'. Our lives are far, far better ones because of her extraordinary care and wisdom. With our most sincere sympathy and blessings--Sally Lowe Whitehead and sons

My thoughts and prayers are with daughter Mary and the family in the passing of Dr. Denmark. I was privileged to be her deacon at Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta. She joined DHBC back on 1/1/1932 - making her one of the longest members in the church. Her name was frequently mentioned during the Sunday School hour. Dr. Denmark cared for so many children of DHBC over the years and was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her. May all be comforted by the words of John 14:2-3. Yes, we all can look forward to seeing and laughing with her again.

I still remember Aunt Leila cleaning out my ears as a child and it wasn't pleasant but afterwards she always had a treat for me. Donna Clark Piper, Tybee Island, GA

You saved my life, so many times, by your wise advice and treatment, during years when parents needed someone to help them raise their children in a saner, more healthful way. Thank you, Dr. Denmark. God will take care of you.

Remarkable lady! She gave so much to so many. Heaven's gain is our loss. RIP Dr. Denmark. My deepest sympathy to her family.

Dear Mary,

Your Mother was such an inspiration to us. Her book was our reference book when our baby (now 31) was born. It was our great honor to meet her and get to know her after she moved to Athens.

May God comfort you and your family and bless you with happy memories.

Love, Georganne & Curtis
