Your Mother was an exceptional woman and will be deeply missed. I met her only once: on December 5, 1967. It was a dinner party at your parents' home for Lynda Bird and Chuck and members of their wedding party. . . President Johnson was not expected to be there but he did indeed arrive. That memory of a gracious and elegant hostess remains. Mrs. Boggs was as gracious to me as she was to the President of the United States. God bless you and your family, Mary Ruth Hassett (formerly Coleman).

My deepest sympathy to the Boggs Family. Many years ago Mrs. Boggs helped resolve a problem for me. She was truly a Great Lady and will be missed.

Dear Ms. Roberts: In 1998 I had the privilege of meeting your mother in Malta to celebrate the Order of Malta's 900th anniversary. We had breakfast at the same table one morning. When I told her I belonged to the Hungarian Association, she immediately asked that I introduce her to Paul Tar, whom she found "so attractive", and who was her counterpart from Hungary at the Vatican. I gladly obliged that evening during a formal reception. Your mother and the Tars became fast friends as a result. Please accept my deepest sympathies, and convey the same sentiments to your family. Margit Serenyi, DM, Hungarian Association, Potomac, MD.

When I was a graduate student in New Orleans, I did my internship at the VAMC in the 80s(it was a no pay internship)and I wrote Mrs. Boggs and explained to her that I was a single parent who was finishing my Master's Degree in Counseling. I asked if she could help me find money while to assist me during the summer. I don't know how she did it but the next day when I went to work, they called me in the office and money was available (I was given bus tokens also). I appreciated her then and now. She made a difference. As a Career Coach I encourage students to do everything they can do to further their education and to ask for help.

What a great loss of a gracious lady who got things done. I had a situation while Ms Boggs was in Congress. Others could never get anything done but Ms Boggs within 30 days straightened things and I was able to continue. I forever owe her a great debt. My prayers and thoughts go out to Cokie and the rest of the family for your great loss. God bless you all.

A great lady, Mrs. Boggs, who truly will be missed by all; a "lioness" for justice.
August 01, 2013
I remember Lindy as an effective pioneer for legislation for women's issues. At the first ever, National Conference on Women, Houston, 1977, I was chairing a workshop on the need for federal programs to help victims of domestic violence. My hotel room phone rang at 7 am and it was Congresswoman Boggs from the airport in New Orleans saying she wanted to attend the workshop, was about to board a plane for Houston, and what was the building and room number of for the workshop. As the workshop got underway 4 hours later, the door opened and in walked Lindy!! Her compassion and warmth in speaking with workshop members made the workshop tingle and smoothed the way for the eventual passage of the legislation (1985). The original bill was cosponsored by Rep. Newton Steers, (R-MD), and Barbara Mikulski (D.MD).

I was press secretary for Congressman F. Edward Hebert when the plane carrying Hale Boggs disappeared over Alaska. I sat in on a very emotional meeting between Lindy and Hebert when she asked him for help. Hebert called Secretary of Defense Mel Laird, a good friend. That spurred a search by the Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard to find any evidence of a plane crash. Nothing was ever found. Lindy courageously moved on, won his seat in Congress and served with distinction for many years. She was a Great Lady.I feel privileged to have known her and her husband. God bless and keep you both.

Another Fall, another Spring.
But There Will Never Be Another You"

Cokie and Thomas your mother's passing is very sad. I have fond memories of your mom and dad that I called Aunt Lindy and Uncle Hale as a child. I remember helping at your Dad's campaign headquarters in Metairie. My parents were Mr. And Mrs. C Ray Edmonds (Helen). Your mom would come and check on me when I was asleep during parties at our house. One time I remember I called Aunt Lindy Mom. So your mom's passing happening years later but the same week of my mom really got to me. Aunt Lindy was truly a magnificent woman and one that I have admired through the years. Most knew Aunt Lindy as a public figure I was fortunate to know her on a personal level as a child. You both are in my thoughts and prayers to stay strong in the days to come. Your mother would want you two to be strong.

"Well done good and faithful servant well done!" Thank you for your service and commitment to our community.

Dear Cokie, I am deeply saddened to know of Lindy's death. I will always be grateful for her friendship and her support of the American Architectural Foundation and the American Institute of Architects during my tenure there. Lindy's contributions to our native state are legendary but most of all I will remember her kind, generous and always thoughtful ways.

Sue joins me in expressing our deepest sympathy to you and the whole family. We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have shared treasured times with Lindy.

I remember Mr. and Ms. Boggs from the late 60's early 70's. My father was connected through politics. Although they never kept in touch after Mr. Boggs death, Ms. Lindy sent my parents a Christmas card with a short note until about 15 years ago. She remembered them all those years later and they never forgot her and Mr. Boggs and how special they both were. May your family take comfort in knowing how much everyone admired her. Your family is my prayers.
July 30, 2013
I was in line at Casamento's restaurant a few years ago as was Mrs. Boggs. She stood in line just like all the other hungry customers. I overheard remark "this place hasn't changed in 45 years"
She was with 2 pretty young girls and was dressed very nice and of course had her heels on. A great memory for me.

Cokie and Tommy, You dont's remember me but I am the daughter of Eddie Hebert who was in Congress with your father. He and Mr. Boggs went to Congress at the same time in 1940. He served for many years with your Mother. He was very fond of them both. Both your parents came to parties at my Mother and Dad's house. Ms. Lindy knew me most of my life, When my Daddy died your Mother was the first person to call me that night. She said that she would take care of the people who would be flying in from D.C. for the funeral. She was at the Church when my famly arrived and she made the day so much easier for me. I will always remember her kindness, that is who she was. I lived near her in the Quarter from 1982 to 1992. I visited her and saw her often at Mass at the Catheral. I just want to share these memories with you all. I know your sister, she and I were closer in age. Ms. Lindy was a lovely person. She really was a good friend to me. She is the last of that decade. That generaton of people were very special in our country's history. With sympathy, Dawn Hebert

Mrs. Boggs was truly a special of a kind a lady. When I was in my early twenties facing being a single mother with no income from my ex husband, Mrs. Boggs put on her cape and by the next month I was receiving my allotments from the government. She had also assisted my mother many years before with such success. She was always willing to assist the underdog and stick with you until your problem was resolved. All the ladies who are in a political office should only learn a fraction of her grace, kindness, humbleness and humanity toward others and the world would be a better place. GOD BLESS

To the family of our dear Sorority Sister, we wish you peace and comfort in the loss of this great woman. She was a beacon of light for all the world to see. May she rest in the arms of our Savior.
July 29, 2013
Lindy Boggs was a great congresswoman. Many of my friends remembered how efficient she was in responding to inquiries and concerns they sent to her. I myself recall being sworn in as a U. S. citizen in January 1976 and then being given information on how to apply for a U. S. passport (which I did) but no information on voter registration. When I wrote her about this, she almost immediately sided with me, contacted the U. S. Justice Department to check into that, and then replied to me with the information that the League of Women Voters normally provides that information to new citizens. I still remember her courtesy and expeditiousness in replying to me. May she now rest in peace.

Lindy Boggs was a very special lady and a true friend. Always a Southern Lady, she could achieve her political goals with a charm and grace that is too often missing today. For me she was a powerful ally -- as much as anyone she was responsible for the New Democrat movement getting off the ground. When Lindy wanted something she got it -- and we all were the better for it. I'm glad she was usually on my side.

To the Boggs Family:
Please accept my deepest sympathies for the loss of your beloved, Lindy! What a wonderful legacy she leaves to family and friends and the nation both spiritually and humanly. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Fr. Harold Boggs, SJ, at Spring Hill College in the late 1960's as a Jesuit scholastic. Both the Claiborne and the Boggs families have given great service to both their state and nation! I have followed her career and the careers of her children over the years via the media. God bless her and her family! Requiescat in pace!

Dear Boggs Family,

Please accept my deepest sympathy upon the death of your mother/grandmother/great-grandmother.

She was truly a "Steel Magnolia" and such a wonderful mentor to the country and world on how to live not only as an American but a daughter of God as well.

I love her book, and have re-read it many times. She was and is an inspiration to me on what is important in life and how to serve those less fortunate than myself.

The nicest, kindest person to ever serve in the United States Congress. Her door in her Washington office was always open facing the hall. Always with a "Hello dear", or "How Are You?" God needed a Congresswoman. God got one of the best in Lindy Boggs. Stay strong Cokie!

This gracious lady came out to the hangar in Anchorage and talked with me before I went out flying in the mountains looking for her husband and Nick Bengich in 1972. I willingly spent Thanksgiving and Christmas flying the mountains in search of her and her family's loss. May God continue to bless this family.

So sorry for your loss, Ms Cokie, your mom will always remain a mentor to those of us who came of age in the '60's and 70's. By her example so many women become all they are meant to be. How blessed you are to have called her Mother! And now your parents are reunited...Heaven embraces her for sure! Much love and comfort to you!

I offer my deepest sympathy to the Boggs Family. In the early eighties I contacted Mrs. Boggs office for help, she called me personally and my problem was resolved within a matter of weeks. The last time I saw her was at the Louis Armstrong Airport in 2006, with her and her daughter being transported on a cart. I did not apporoach them due to security issues, but she looked beautiful and she still had that always present smile. Mrs. Boggs has come to assistance at least twice and there will never be another Lindy Boggs. GOD BLESS

To Lindy's immediate family,
Lindy was my grandmother's third cousin (Leda de la Vergne St. Paul) and since our first meeting in 1976 (at her Bourbon Street home during the Spring Fiesta), she has held a special place in my heart. During my college experience, Lindy gave me the fantastic opportunity of being one of her Congressional summer interns. I was privileged to know her and will never forget her.

A beautiful, gracious southern lady who fought hard for all of Louisiana especially the women and poor. She could get more done with her smooth southern manners than any man with his fists pounding. Sat at her table many times listening to her dreams for Louisianas citizens. RIP as you've joined the love of your life in heavenly reward.

May your soul rest in peace. I often talked to you outside of Jesuit church in New Orleans. You were always so nice.
