The whole thing started with a young girl's love of Charlton Heston... & after watching Andromeda Strain the girl was left wanting better. So, she found the book & having read it there was an automatic transfer of love/positive regard to a new "object", the author. And, so it went through the yrs & that regard grew (even if as an adult the "girl" disagreed with the author on his thoughts on climate change, despite the thorough research presented).

Despite the many yrs since your demise, you are missed & today for reasons that are unimportant I choose to state that you remain in my thoughts - always alive!

If there ever was an author who inspired me it was you. I have enjoyed your books and movies and shared them with my son who was taken on May 17, 2011. I just wanted to thank you and will always remember the card you sent many years ago.

your works are an inspiration to me I hope one day I will be like you. I will miss your books I always waited for the newest one to come out. My teen years wouldn't have been the same with out dinosaurs, murder mysteries, alien space ships, and time travel. Thank you and may the after life be your next great adventure.

Michael Crichton was and is still my alltime favorite author. I have been reading his books, starting with "Jurassic Park", since I was twelve. I love to read them over and over again, for I learn something new everytime. I'm dedicating my school portfolio piece to "State of Fear", and am greatly looking forward to reading "Pirate Latitudes". Thanks for being the sourse of this 11th grader's inspiration,
Rest in Peace, God Bless

For Michael...

You are missed however,
your words will live
forever.

Micheal...this is for you.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I never read his books, like my husband did, but I loved ER and the Jurassic Park series. He was a very talented author.

To the Family,

I am so very sorry for your loss. Michael Crichton has been a favorite author of mine for years. I loved the way he could take science and make it exciting and challenge me to think outside the box defined by the main stream media. I, for one, will greatly miss his style.

Jurassic Park is my most favorite movie, but I am familiar with Mr.Crichton's other books and movies too (including "Coma").
I am so very sorry for your loss.
November 05, 2008
bummer! I started reading his books earlier this year. I really liked The Great Train Robbery. I also liked the classic concept of guy and girl falling for each other through the crucible of the plot in some others like Timeline. The science was exciting, and I liked the fact that he provided references. (I'm an engineer). My prayers go to his family and friends. I'm dissapointed not to read another good book.
November 05, 2008

A great writer that inspired me in many ways in not just getting me to pick up a pen and write my own works, but also to think outside the box and pursue the sciences. His works kept my imagination fresh through High School and beyond. He'll be missed, but he'll live on in his works, fans, and most importantly in is family. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends. To quote one of his novels "life finds a way."

I'm a bookworm, but mostly for biographies. Thanks to Mr. Crichton, I learned to LOVE fiction. Thank you so much for your gift. May you rest in peace.
November 05, 2008
I am so sad about his passing. It was this wonderful author that opened my eyes into reading books, and to turn off the tv. I remember in High School, I was given Sphere as a gift. I read that book in one sitting. I was so attached to it that I went out with my grandmother and bought another of his books the next day, Disclosure. After that, I started spending money to gather every book he had out up to date.

I left the country for a long time, and his books were hard to find. I came back a few years ago and had a family, started raising kids, work all day, and fell away from reading his books. I was out with my grandmother a month ago, and she pointed out his books and said "Dont you own all his books?" I said yes, but not the one she pointed too. She was so happy, she took his hardback off the shelf and paid for it at the register faster then I could reply. She handed it to me and said "Now you can start reading once again."

It's hard knowing that what she bought me is his second to last book, and that his last one will be out next year sometime. I was so hoping for many more years, and many more books from Mr. Crichton. It truly is a sad day for me, as I always wanted a chance to meet him and explain what he did for me in life as far as reading.

I am so sorry to see you go, but I guess the skies above need you now to entertain them with the many great stories you have to tell.

My prayers are with him and his family, I'll miss you deeply....
November 05, 2008
His books not only entertained, but educated. His life made a difference to a great many people.

My heart goes out to the Crichton family & their circle of friends. I've read many of this man's books over the years, and although I never met him in person, I'm feeling a very strong sense of loss. This type of talent comes along once in a life time. My deepest sympathy to all.
November 05, 2008
To this day Jurassic Park is one my favorite reads of all time. Very few authors have the talent and creativity that Mr. Crichton had. Many of his books left a lasting impression on me like no other books or movies based on books ever could. Mr. Crichton you will truly be missed.
November 05, 2008
The first book I read by him was Jurassic Park. I could not put it down. Any author that can bring a book alive and make me think that this place could exist in real life is one who has a gift to write. You will be missed.

November 05, 2008
RIP..The world has lost a wonderful man and a great story teller..Thank you for all the joy you have given to me every time I read one of your books.
November 05, 2008
Very much shocked to hear this very sad news.. Michael Crichton was a Master Story-teller, one of the Very Best, whose absence will leave an irreplaceable gap in modern literature. No-one else wrote such page-turning, un-put-downable and primarily thought-provoking books.. Almost used to postone reading the latest book until the last moment so as to be able to saviour them longer… Would have loved to have met this great man to spend time discussing with him his inspiration and plots…Condolences to the Crichton family for their sad loss.
November 05, 2008
I am sorry to hear that my favorite author has passed. Michael Crichton's books are one of a kind in that I learned so much while being entertained. I found out so much about DNA, virtual reality, nanotechnology and the like because of his books. I still watch ER to this day.

The world of entertainment-books, TV and movies-has lost a great storyteller. I will treasure his works even more now.
November 05, 2008
I've been reading MC since I was 8 years old. The first adventure I took through his writing was Jurassic Park, which I bought from the local bookshop, a couple of months after I had watched the movie and figured out that there was a book. Since then I've read most of his work, and I've grown up as a person who seeks a different perspective, as Michael himself has shown us that there's always two different faces to a coin.

Thank you Michael, for offering us your thoughts and insight coupled with wonderful writing and adventures, which surely have effected me as the maturing 20 year old I am today.

You will be missed and your memory cherished.

My condolences to all the family, you are in my thoughts.
November 05, 2008
I was captured by Michael Crichton's books when I realized just how much research he put into every one of them. I am truly saddened that his literary genius has come to an end. I will miss looking forward to more of his stories and extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends. I am also sorry for those of us who will miss his dedication.

Rest in Peace, Michael. You will be sorely missed.
November 05, 2008

November 05, 2008
I am so sad at the loss of this great writer, I loved all his books especially his book about his travels.
May God bless his soul.
November 05, 2008
I know that I'll miss his intelligent approach to sci fi , medicine and life.
Glad that I got to meet him but was dissappointed to learn, due to filming cost, that "Airframe", the sequel book to "Diclosure" would never be made into a movie...
November 05, 2008
I'm saddened by this loss. Michael was my favorite author and I will miss him much.
November 05, 2008
To the Crichton family~May you find comfort and peace in this time of sorrow. Please accept my condolences. Michael was a great writer and I love E.R., i've watched it since the beggining.

November 05, 2008
This mans mind had many visitors. We felt welcome and listened to his stories in awe at where we were able to go, thanks to him. Accept our sincere sympathy. We all will miss him.
November 05, 2008
I started with JP at age 12 and have enjoyed many more of his novels ever since. If I had chosen writing as a profession it would have been heavily influenced by Mr. Crichton's style of incorporating just enough science to his fiction to make it believeable. He will be missed.

I have purchased all of Mr. Crichton's books, and have loved them all! I have even made two exceptions to my reading rules and purchased many of his books in hardcover and even purchased "Travels". Although I generally do not read biographies, "Travels" was a real page-turner. I am certain that he will be missed by all of his family and friends, and I, an avid reader, will truly miss the anticipation of his forthcoming projects.

When I was 10 years old I picked up one of his books and have been a fan ever since. Now years later I would just like to say thank you to him for the wonderful stories he wrote and the intelligent subject matter that he brought up. My condolences go out to his family as well. May he rest in peace.

I am very sad to hear of Michael Crichton's passing. I used to give his books to my friends and even those who are not regular book readers enjoyed them thoroughly. There was always something new to learn as well as to enjoy. There will still be new readers for years to come. God Bless and condolences to his family.

I Love you novels, they are what kept me reading after high school. Makes me want to believe in Reincarnation so you could come back and continue writing.

My heart goes out to his family. Michael was my favorite author and I have been reading his books since i was 10. Without him I probably wouldn't have gotten into books as soon as I did or develope an interest in science, which my degree is in.

May you rest in peace Mr. Crichton. You've blessed us with many amazing books that were truly enjoyable to read.

Today we have lost a giant who was a beacon of quintessential American imagination and blended great story telling with groundbreaking scientific frontiers that all of us could understand+follow his mind bending leaps in imagination.

A very sad day and, ironically, a huge loss on one of the most hopeful day for this country in a generation.

You will be sorely missed but your legacy will live on forever in this world. Towards that, I, for one, plan to introduce my 10 year old son(and soon my 8 year old daughter) to your work with a tremendous sense of urgency. I'm hoping that my son, who wants to be an author, and many like him, will be able to carry your "imagination" baton forward in this world.

I absolutely loved his work... He is gone way too early. May God bless your family

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. We thank you so much for bringing us such thrilling works of fiction. I thoroughly enjoyed every book that I have read from you. They allowed me to look at how our world is constantly changing and question the validity of many of the "facts" we take for granted.

I've started reading your books when I was only 9 years old and a book of yours was my favourite prize when I got a good mark at school.
I learned a lot, I had so much fun and I passed wonderful hours reading and reading again each one of your exciting and clever works.
I never had the honour to meet you, but today I feel like I've lost a good friend.
Thank you for everything you gave to us.
We'll miss you.
Rest In Peace, Michael!

I am deeply saddened by Mr. Crichton?s passing. He was an inspiration to me and a hero. He helped the world see through a new point of view and promoted creativity. He was a genius who meshed science and fiction, not to be confused with science fiction. He pushed the limits and explored the realm of possibility.

Wow! What a tremendous loss for Americans at this time! Mr. Crichton will truly be remembered as one of the greatest science fiction/thriller/fantasy writers of the 20-21st century. He will be truly missed for he has and will continue to inspire authors to write for generations to come. My greatest sympathies to the family and friends of this truly beloved man.

Where will we go without our Teacher? Who else could have been so precient of the types and dangers of Scientific Discovery, and the need to step back - and ask "why?"

I wish I had met you. I wish I could have had just five minutes with your intellect, and your profane humanity. I've learnt so much, and followed so closely in your footsteps it seems as if you were behind me all the way. I have questions unaswered, and descisions yet to make. Where will I now go for guidance now I will never have the chance to ask.

I thank-you for what you've left behind, and for what I can revise. Maybe it's all in there anyway.

Sleep well, and pleasant dreams.
