Miss You
July 23, 2013
I have never in my 18 years of life been aware of this officer nicki, his death, or grave. However tonight July 22 2013 on a full moon my husband, a friend, and myself ended up in the cemetery where Nicki rests. While we were near his grave and memorial bench I told my husband and friend, "I'm drawn to this grave stone!" Pointed then walked straight to his grave... when I read the stone I was frozen and began to cry. Today would have been his 39th birthday. I immediately told my husband and friends something bad happened to him he was a young police officer, someone killed him. And that's when I looked up his story, and this is the only place I found to share my story. I had to let someone who might have known him know about my experience. I sat on nicks bench talking to him and we all wished him a happy birthday. I hope you are at peace nick, and I hope you're loved ones will find peace as well.

To the family: May the comfort from family and friends continue to strengthen you, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

October 01, 2007
I go to the cemetery every Saturday to my mother's grave. She died just before Christmas last year. It is hard. Your husband is buried not very far from my mother in the Garden of Devotion. I was so sad when I saw his grave this Saturday. I know I will be sad every Saturday not only for the loss of my mother but for the loss you have suffered. Mother had lived her life span but Officer Erfle still had so much to give, so much to live for. There is an old Irish saying - "Grieve not too long that he is gone, but rejoice forever that he was." My heart goes out to you and your sons. God bless always.

"Wings"

Your life was full and had so much meaning,
you never dwelled on the chance of leaving.
Facing each day with a possible threat,
and not one moment lived with a regret.

So many people see but don't understand,
that we protect and serve in a not so perfect land.
There wasn't time for you to say good-bye,
but I can hear you clearly saying -- 'Please don't cry'.

Your life has been rich and sweet,
you'll be missed by your brothers and sisters on the street.
You don't have to face another hassle,
now you can go live in your own little castle.

Getting your wings up in the sky,
where one day you'll teach us all to fly.

Dear Erfle Family,
I deeply sympathize with you because my father was a firefighter who left us too early (unrelated to the job), while I worried for 20 years about my brother who was a frontline officer just like Nick until his retirement last year. Furthermore, Nick truly was one of Phoenix's finest, so his passing is my loss as well. However, I can only imagine what you special people are going through. My heartfelt best wishes go to you all. I wish this tragedy never happened. May God bless.

Fallen Hero
In Loving Memory of Nick Erfle

When the battle is over
cut short by hate
another hero falls

You are a hero
not because of how
you died
But
how you lived your life

Always without complaint
through ill health
Always a smile
for all you met

Love so strong
for family and friends
Today our hearts break
A loss, no one will
ever forget

Thanking God for sharing
this loved one
Even though the time was short
It was a privelege,
to know you

We mourn for all the memories
we will never have a chance
to make

A horse stands at attention
Empty boots in stirrups
Police helicopters in formation
Missing man drops away

Dispatcher speaks
Goodnight sir
Goodbye sir
Rest in peace
You will be deeply missed

Julie,
I am praying for you and your sons. I have family and friends in law enforcement. I have watched them train with such dedication and excitement to serve & protect their cities. The committment is so tremendous and it is shared by the loving support that you as a wife have given on days when he has experienced traumas never spoken. The love you have shared in those moments when touching special things occurred that he waited all day to come home and share with you. The love you have given has strengthened him time and time again. I pray God's peace floods your hearts and minds. I pray that those who know you well will hold you tenderly and speak words of encouragement at the most needed times. I pray angels watch over every step you and your sons take. I Pray God provides all the things necessary to keep your sons strong and growing toward being fine young men just as Daddy showed them to be so many times. God Bless You and My Prayers Will Be With You.

September 24, 2007
Why did you have to leave so soon?
I had just talked to you earlier that afternoon.
We were laughing and carrying on had I only known.
Had I known how the afternoon was going to end all wrong.

It hasn’t been the same since you’ve been gone.
I heard the call and I was on the way,
I’ll never forget finding you that day.
It ripped my heart to see you injured like that.

I did for you what you could not do filling your lungs with each breath,
while others did the rest.
I stayed with you till you were flown from the scene
hoping to wake and find it all to be a dream.

It was extremely hard to face the fact,
you were gone and never coming back.
You were a great cop and a good friend,
but why did it all have to suddenly end.

So tragically taken from this world
your friends, family and wife.
You paid the ultimate price
and they all represent the supreme sacrifice.

You served mankind well and did
a thankless job that few would choose to do.
Knowing what the consequences could bring,
you accepted the task without hesitation,
giving your life for our preservation.

You were laid to rest with Honors
in such a glorious way we will never forget.
Bugles playing, drums tapping and
bagpipes piping as the twenty-one gun
salute echoed in the air while we stood at attention.

Now I wake to another dawn
wondering why it had to go wrong.
Thoughts of you will always remain,
but things are not the same------

To Nick's wife and boys, to his brothers, sisters, nieces (Hope is our niece) and nephews:
I didn't get to know Nick as he was just a little kid when we moved on to the Joos farm, but my Mom, Ramona, and Nick's Mom, Colleen, were friends for many years. In fact, Nick's Mom made a set of duck down pillows for me after we were married.
Death is a nasty part of life, but a tragic death, such as Nick's, has to be the hardest kind to deal with.
I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts. Nick was truly a hero.

After that first call,
saying you were down;
Devastated, we prayed yet again,
for one of our own.

With all our training &
everything we know;
We were helpless to save you,
take back that fatal blow.

Our community will suffer,
for the officer we've been robbed;
The rest of us continue,
just trying to do our job.

Serving public safety is the
path we're called upon;
Your life and how you served us,
is why we all go on.

While you rest in peace
in the arms of our loving Father;
We remember your sacrifice,
dedication and honor.

Thank you officer Erfle and God speed.
God bless your family and all those who will miss you.

While trying to find the right words to say here, I read through pages upon pages of previous entries to this guest book. I finally realized that there are NO words; there is nothing that can assuage the senseless loss of Officer Erfle, nor the unbelievable grief that his family must be feeling.
So I will just say thank you to him for his sacrifice for our community, and offer my prayer that God will wrap his arms around his family and hold them close, always.
September 21, 2007
Dear Erfle family,

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Officer Nick Erfle, and want you to know that he was very much appreciated for the service and protection that he provided for the betterment of society.
September 21, 2007
As a cousin of Nick's, I will always remember his smile and cheer he brought into the world. He was the youngest cousin and one that had a real special bond with my parents. Nick lost has Dad to cancer when he was a 4th grader & his Mother to cancer 10 years later. He was really brave to fight the cancer battle at a real young age. It was real sad to hear of him dying doing a job he loved when he fought very hard with his illness.
We will always remember him as a special family guy that paid alot of attention to Julie & the boys. He will be missed very much by his siblings & extended family. My Mom had a special bond with him & always was looking forward to a hug & kiss from him. May he rest in peace with the family that has been waiting for him in Heaven.
September 21, 2007
To the loved ones of Officer Nick Erfle,

Words cannot express what we all feel when someone such as Officer Nick Erfle is lost in the line of duty. I do not know Officer Erfle, but I do appreciate greatly his service to protecting those in need. He gave of himself selflessly. He is to be revered and honored for his duty to serve and protect the people of the United States and its laws. Like our great American soldiers, he was deployed every day from the first day he accepted his badge. May his untimely passing serve to raise awareness of problems this great country is facing. May his untimely passing not be forgotten and pushed in to the shadows. May Officer Nick Erfle's name be forever echoing the sounds of justice and the demand for it.

May God accept him in to the Kingdom of heaven and rest his soul.
September 21, 2007
To the family of Officer Nick Erfle,
I got to know Nick over the course of his illness. I admired him from the first time I met him. He had an incredible attitude. He made me proud to be from North Dakota. I will never forget him.

September 21, 2007
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

It has taken me a few days to finally find the right words to express how I feel. I did not know Nick all that well but I knew of him. A hero, a survivor and a great man. Nick meant the world to a very dear and close friend of mine, his niece Heidi. If it was not for Nick, his family, and his close bond with her, I never would have had the privilege of knowing him or meeting such a wonderful friend as Heidi.
What happened was a tragedy, one in which words can’t describe. Words also can’t describe how sorry I am for his family, friends and especially Heidi. All I know is that he is in a better place and will be missed by everyone that ever knew him. My prayers and warmest thoughts are with the family. I love you Heidi and am here for you through this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Officer Erfle as an Assistant Prosecutor for the City of Phoenix. I had many cases with him and I always found him to be very professional. What struck me about him the most was his sense of humility. He clearly was there to do a great job, but not to take credit for it. I wish his family every bit of peace at this time, and I offer you all my prayers. My deepest condolences.
September 20, 2007
Officer Nick Erfle was a credit to his family, his fellow officers and to all humanity. My sympathies to all who loved him and worked with him. He was an exemplary human being. Everyone should aspire to exhibit the qualities he displayed each and every day.

September 20, 2007
There aren't enough words to describe the emptiness within myself everytime I have to hear about the loss of another officer doing their job. It's sad that a loss like this is so senseless and makes no sense it fills my heart with pain for his family. My family lost one of our own the same way back in 1995 on the Beeline HWY doing a routine traffic stop. His name was Robert K. Martin, A.K.A "Mother Martin" It definately takes a special person to fill these types of shoes & to put their lifes on the line everyday. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and prayers to his family and friends who knew him best. He's an angel watching over all of us now. God bless! xoxoxo
September 20, 2007
Dear Erfle Family:

I had never met Nick, but I work with his sister Connie and his sister Patty is married to my uncle. I wanted to write to say how deeply saddened I was to hear about your brother, father, & husband. I lost my father at a very young age and wanted to let you know it is great when you get to hear stories about your lost loved one. Keep those memories and stories close to your heart so that you can tell your little boys all about their Dad. From everything written it sounds like he was a great man & a "HERO". My thoughts & prayers are with you all in this time of deep sorrow.
September 20, 2007

This is such a terrible unnecessary waste and I just hope that you find comfort from prayers and sympathy of all the people who write to this Guest Book.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. He will always be with us in our hearts. And for that I leave my condolences.
September 20, 2007
I went to high school with Nick Erfle in Fessendend ND. He was one hell of a guy. He had a lot of friends, and I have many many great memories. It is crying shame he had to leave us prematurely. He was a wonderful human being, and he will never be forgotten. He touched many lives. I thought of him many times, he and Julie, for they were my pals in high school, and they were high school sweethearts. The pain will never go away. But it will get easier to cope with over time. Soon, the memories of Nick will overcome the sorrow, the anger, and grief. Celebrate his life as I have going through my high school year books. God Bless Julie, her family and the Erfle family. My prayers and thoughts will always be with you.
September 20, 2007
Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss…our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

September 20, 2007
Officer Nick, Thank you for doing your job so well. Without you and others like you, we ordinary citizens would be in constant, real danger from the dregs of society. I know that to you, you were just doing your job and you like to think of it that way, but, to the rest of us, you are a hero of the highest order. You and your comrades-in-arms deserve the utmost respect and admiration from we who are lucky enough to have you between us and trouble. Again, I would just like to say, Thank You Sir.
September 20, 2007
Mrs. Erfle & Family,
Our deepest sympathy & prayers are with you during this time. Good Bless you all during this terrible loss. We will keep the Erfle, Prom and extended family in our prayers.
September 20, 2007

September 20, 2007
It is with great sorrow that I am even writing this email about the death of Officer Nick Erfle.

As a former chief executive of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office I am hurting along side of Nick's family and all law enforcement brother's and sister's that are suffering the loss on another great officer.

It is men and women like Officer Erfle that put their lives on the line every day to do the job that they love doing. They live to protect and to serve their communities.

All that I can say is God bless you Nick and know that my wife Adele and I will be praying for your wife and sons.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting or working with Nick. His death is senseless, and no one on earth can adequately explain it. But maybe the answer is simpler than we think. When a person wants to surround themself with beauty they may visit their flower garden. They search the garden for the most thriving and vibrant blooms. They then gather "the best and the brightest" and reurn to their home where they can enjoy their new "companions" up close. Perhaps God does the same thing. Rest in peace young man.

I am the Mother of an Officer and my thoughts and prayers are with the Erfle family.
September 20, 2007
Julie,
I was lucky enough to work for Nick for 7 years. Though we were never on the same squad, I saw him almost every work day. Something that he said to me one day will always stand out. He said, "When I go out these doors, I know that when I come back in, I will have made somebody's day better". He was right, because it was mine that he made better. It is people like Nick and yourself that truly make the world a better place. Thank you for sharing him with us, and please know that he had a bigger impact on the world that any of us could ever imagine.
September 20, 2007
My prayers go out to the family kids and his wife:

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;

but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;

I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,

remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

It's time again for my annual donation to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. This donation is for you Officer Erfle, for you found your place on that memorial too early. God speed.

I'm sorry that you are no longer in our world and you will be missed more than words can say. Your loss is devastating to so many. But I am greatful and comforted to know that you are in Spiritworld and still making our world a better place from there. God bless your wife, children, family and freinds. All are in our prayers. I am touched as well (and my heart aches) despite never having met Officer Erfle. My prayers go out to you (us) all for forgiveness, peace, and love prevail.

It is truly courageous that men and women continue to choose being police officers when any seemingly minor encounter can turn out like this. Bless you all, you peace officers, and thank you.

Julie -especially- may you take comfort in knowing that Nick accomplished what he was here to do and that you will be together again. In the meanwhile, may you KNOW that you are not alone, that Spirit is with you, to love and help you through this time - and always.

Keep the love, keep the faith. God bless.

Please include my tears and broken heart, as you grieve the loss of your loved one so special to you all and our community. Officer Erfle was protecting the very neighborhood where I have lived for 20 years. When I consider moving to a "better" part of town, I realize crime is everywhere. Men and Women like Officer Erfle give of themselves every day to watch over and protect people they don't even know. That is the ultimate honor. Julie and family, It is tough to find words that can fill a void in someones life. What can I say that hasn't already been said in the many, many entries in this book? Maybe a simple "I'm sorry" from an old family friend will be of some comfort. Have strength.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

poem by Mary Frye (1932)

My families thoughts and prayers are with this hero's wife, children and family. May you all feel the Lords arms around you in this sad and devastating time.
September 19, 2007
Dearest Julie, boys, and family,

I am so sorry for your tragic loss. Words can not express the sorrow I feel for you. I can not believe that this has happened again so soon to another Phoenix Police Officer.

Hold your boys tight, and know he is watching over you, protecting you in a different way now. So many of us are here for you.

You and your family are in my prayers.

Respectfully,

There are no words to express my sorrow and disbelief over the loss of Officer Erfle. My husband is a sergeant with PPD and was lucky enough to have known Nick. We were devastated when we heard of this tragedy. I pray for peace and comfort for his family and friends during this terrible time. The department was lucky to have such a dedicated officer.
September 19, 2007
I am deeply saddened, shocked by the tragic and senseless loss of one of Phoenix's finest! Yesterday, i was in Phoenix, it was congested, busy, and I happened to drive off of the 202 north on 24th Street to Indian School, then west, and saw a Phoenix PD unit patrolling and admired how they showed their care and concern for the public. I overheard a conversation at a restaurant and said my prayer for the PPD officer. Please know this visitor to Phoenix sincerely and gratefully appreciates what PPD does for its citizens and visitors to Phoenix. To the family, relatives, friends, and fellow officers, please accept my sincerest sympathy and condolences from this person from northern Arizona. God Bless You.
September 19, 2007

Thank you, officer Erfle for being willing to protect the public at the cost of your own life. You will never die for those who love you and those who didn't know you will honor you none the less.

To the Erfle family, Nick battled alot to have life and a higher power won't let him stay here. Nick is now in a better place and is looking down on all he loved and cared for. Nick you will be missed and remembered by all you touched. Remember Nick gave his all to serve and protect and we should give back to his family for what they gave up, a father, husband, son, and friend. Nick rest in peace and we'll see you on the other side. 1007 sir.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Julie, Brody and Collin,

Dorinda called me last night with the devasting news. It seemed surreal. I am having trouble putting my feelings into words, but please know that Rick and I are praying for you and the boys. I know that Nick is certainly looking down on all of you and that he is with you and protecting you.

I am so sorry, I so wish I could that I could explain things better.

I was so very happy to hear of Nick's health and healing and hearing about the recent trips you took as a family. It was wonderful to hear about all of you taking and making the time to enjoy each day and each moment together! Bless you all, always and in all ways.

I am so grateful to have known Nick. He will be remembered fondly and missed greatly.

Please, please know that we are here for you and if you need anything at all that we are just a phone call away.

Peace, blessings and love,
Judy Fossum Mathern and Richard Mathern

To Nick's family and childern, I offer you my condolences on this tragic event. Nick is surely an American hero who died doing what he loved to do, despite the fact that he battled cancer and could have gotten an easier assignment. My department, Miami-Dade Police, just buried one of our own yesterday. That officer was shot to death on September 13, 2007 while on-duty. So as a fellow police officer I have felt the grief of losing a comrade. But this grief can be nothing compared to the grief that your family is enduring. God bless your family and rest assured that Nick is at the right hand of God. There was a greater calling for Nick and one day you will all be united with him in God's Kingdom. As for now, he is looking down on your family with pride. As for Nick's children, make your Dad proud throughout your lives, because he will be looking down on you and expecting that you'll do your best in whatever situation you are in. He died honorably and I, as well as my fellow officers, salute him. God Bless you and God Bless Nick.
Detective John R. Butchko, Miami-Dade Police Department Homicide Bureau

Erfle family -
We have lost yet another Hero. In the far-reaching, extended family you inherited through Nick's love of his profession and his dedication to the citizens of Phoenix, rest easy knowing his brothers and sisters in this law enforcement family are here for you. You have lost a son, brother, husband, father and friend. Please be proud of Nick and know that as he made the ultimate sacrifice, he did so as a Hero, Mentor, and Role Model. He is a brother to me and countless others in law enforcement that have felt this pain and loss before and will, unfortunately, will feel it again. But please believe that the Lord holds special a place for him amongst his brothers and sisters that have passed before him in the line of duty, attempting to make this world a better place.
May God be with you and yours during this time.

Mrs Erfile and family,

I read this not long ago and i hope it helps your family through this difficult time.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Some souls come to Earth to be protectors. It is something many of us who have come for other reasons do not understand. How they stay vigilant and put themselves in harm's way so that the rest of us can go on with our day in innocent peace of those forces that would harm us.

Officer Nick Erfle is one of those souls. For those who loved him and were forced to let him go sooner then they had hoped, our family's hearts and prayers go out to you. You have made the ultimate sacrifice.

To Officer Nick Erfle. May his soul be a peace knowing that though he is no longer physically with us, we will always remember his strength, and that he served to the best of his ability while he was here. May he continue to protect those he cared about as their gaurdian angel. May the memories bring peace to his family and those who loved him and may they know our gratitude for their sacrifice and true sorrow for their loss.
September 19, 2007
My heart goes out to the family of Officer Erfle and all members of the PPD community. May you find comfort that he has been greeted by the heroes who fell before him and they are all protecting us from above.

An Angel In The Sky
Must Leave His Place of Rest,
Gently Tucking His Wings
Beneath His Armored Vest.
For Duty Has Called,
There's Much Work To Do,
Little Did He Know
This One Is Dressed In Blue.

Arriving On Scene
He Knew Just What To Say,
"Follow Me, Fallen Brother,
I'll Show You The Way.
Your Duty Has Ended,
Your Work On Earth Is Now Through,
Come Hang Your Hat Beside Mine,
I'm A Cop Too"

September 19, 2007

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Your husband, as all who serve, are assured a special place in Heaven and I hope that provides you at least some comfort. May we all take a moment to keep your family in our prayers and daily continue to honor those who so selflessly serve and protect us. May the Lord shine on you and your boys in these deepest, darkest hours. Try to hold your head high as you cherish those special memories and recognize your husband, was a true hero to each and every one of us. Dear Julie and boys,
This is a terrible time and my words seem so inadequate. I want to say that Nick is safely with Jesus and is watching over you all. His love and essence will be with you always as you carry on. Grieve deep, but also hang on to the good times and the memories you made together. He was a fighter and a winner and would want you to be so also. We are going through this same tragedy and while we certainly are not "experts" we feel your pain and are there for you if needed. The PD can connect us if you desire so don't hesitate to ask. Nick is a hero in every aspect and you should be so proud! God bless you and comfort you now and the days to come.

If only I could give my own life for his! I would do it without hesitation.

Julie, Brody and Collin - my thoughts and prayers reach out to you during the coming days and weeks...there are no words to describe how I felt this morning when I heard Nick's name and learned that he passed away. You and Nick were the best neighbors and you both helped me and Monica and Jacob out alot when we first moved years ago. Nick was a new cop at that time and I remember talking to him about being a firefighter but I knew that Nick loved being a police officer. There was no changing his mind about that his career choice. We are here for you and the boys and if there is anything that we can do for you...we would love to help you in anyway.

Our love and prayers,

My condolences go out to the family and friends of officer Nick Erfle. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of his life, even though I do not know him. I am sure he was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. I am thankful to him for the years that he served as an officer and the sacrifices that he and his family have made. As a Christian, the only bright side I can see to his having passed on is that I feel in my heart that he has gone to a place that is much better than the world in which we live. The violence which brought his life to an end is evidence of that. God bless and keep his family, friends, and fellow officers as they go through their grieving process. It is indeed far too soon for Phoenix PD -- or any PD -- to have lost another officer.

Best wishes to all . . .
September 18, 2007
i CAN NOT PUT IN WORDS THE HURT I FEEL FOR YOU AT THIS TIME. JUST FROM SEEING HIS PICTURE I CAN SEE IN HIS FACE WHAT A WONDERFUL PERSON HE WAS.KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT THE END BUT A BRAND NEW BEGINNING FOR HIM. GOD NEEDED HIM IN HEAVEN MORE THAN WE DID ON EARTH. HE WILL BE WITH YOU AGAIN, IS GODS PROMISE. MAY GOD BRING YOU PEACE AS WELL, IN TIME I ASSURE YOU HE WILL. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

Nick,
Tammy and I were there to meat you on your first day of the academy eight years ago. You were a wide-eyed kid, not knowing what to expect. I thought, “No way will a guy this nice make a good cop.” You proved me wrong. I sat with you during the academy and watched you turn yourself into an outstanding recruit. I watched as you became a stand out officer at Squaw Peak Precinct. I watched you take on cancer and win. I was also there the night you were awarded the Medal of Valor for heroism. I have never been so happy to have been wrong. I am a better man for having known you. God bless you, my friend.
September 18, 2007
I'm so sorry for your loss. Nikki was really good friends with my brother Darian when they were in high school. I remember he had kind of a mullet and he used to let me comb his hair and put little ponytails in it. I remember him being one of the nicest guys I've ever known... My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and family.
September 18, 2007

Respectfully, S. Ermel

"POLICEMAN'S PRAYER"

When I start my tour of duty God,
Wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone,
Let me be close to thee.

Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgment in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience let each man have his say.

Lord if some dark and dreary night,
I must give my life,
Lord, with your everlasting love
protect my children and my wife.
September 18, 2007

For he is known
as a loved one and a friend,
giving service;
walking tall until the end.

Honor his memory
with sweet tender thoughts,
and keep a warm place
for him in your hearts.

Our brother,
laid to rest,
in hallowed ground
who gave his best.

To the God of Love
this fallen - yet rising star,
receive into thy kingdom
yonder afar.

A crown of jewels
he fought the good fight,
giving his life
every day and night

Do you hear the voice
a beautiful sight,
an angel beckoning
go to the light…

To all the Police Officers & their families...

POLICEMAN'S PRAYER

Oh almighty God,
Whose great power and eternal
Wisdom embraces the universe,
Watch over all Policemen and

In the performance of their duty
To stop crime,robberies,
Riots and violence.
We pray, help them keep our streets
And homes safe day and night.

Because their duty is dangerous.

Courage in their daily assignments.

Families after duty has ended.
