To the family of Patricia Neal:
Our son was a patient at Patricia Neal in Knoxville, from Dec. 1990 to Aug 1991 from a traumatic brain injury and much more. Without Patricia Neal's encouragement and love, those days would have been much longer for our family. She radiated life and the will to live to us at that time and we will always be grateful to her. Thank you for sharing her with us. The Parents of Mark Letterman and Mark.

August 12, 2010
I have loved Patricia Neal all my life. She showed such strength and character after suffering from strokes. I am a nurse and I quote Patricia Neal to my patients in hopes that her ability to overcome will help them as well. She has been a moving force within me too. I was very ill as a child and teenager. I wanted to emulate her and overcome my illness so that I could become the nurse I am today. With her as my ideal and Jesus as my savior I have succeeded. The World has truly lost a bright, shining light with her loss. My prayers are with her family and friends that the love of God will sustain them and ease their pain.

To the Neal Family, Ms. Neal was a great Lady of the silverscreen! I did not know Her famous "gravelly" voice came by tragity of stroke(s). as a teenager ,(now 50), She would turn my focus to the t.v. when She spoke. I knew Her best from the famous Walton episode. My wife and i quote Her yearly at Thanksgiving of her line about "...where did you get those Turkey's?" (reverently and with fondness). The Neal family must be proud to call Her "Mom",Mother,Grandma, ect,.My Mom is in a resthome currently because of strokes at age 88. One day vivacious, next day totally different.I will keep Ms.Neal's legacy verbally alive with my own Mom's. Truely a loss for America in these troubled times we're in.Peace to Ms. Neal and her offspring. Love, Terry

August 10, 2010
My only encounter was in 1951 during her role in the Submarine picture "Operation Pacific" as it premiered on board the USS Conger (SS477). I was able to get the Marques Poster that came with the film. I squirreled it away for many years until while teaching high school discovered that another faulty member, William Pete Neal, was her brother. In subsequent years having lost track with Pete I sent a letter to Patricia asking her for information about Pete’s whereabouts. She forwarded my letter on to Pete and I subsequently heard from him. That Marques Poster still hangs on my office wall with other naval memorabilia.

My sympathy goes out to her family.

Your mom was an incredible actress and I will remember her because my own mother had a stroke when I was 6.

These two letters are framed on either side of her photograph. She was a woman of substance who overcame almost unsurmountable odds. I would not be the woman I am today without her presence in my life.

He Will Call (Job 14:13-15)

Life, like a mist, appears for just a day, Then disappears tomorrow.
All that we are can quickly fade away, Replaced with tears and sorrow.
If a man should die, can he live again?
Hear the promise God has made.

He will call; The dead will answer.
They shall live at his command.
For he will have a longing
For the work of his own hand.
So have faith, and do not wonder,
For our God can make us stand.
And we shall live forever,
As the work of his own hand.

Friends of our God, though they may pass away, will never be forsaken.
All those asleep who in God's mem'ry stay,
From death he will awaken.
Then we'll come to see all that life can be: Paradise eternally.

Patricia Neal was my favorite actress from the time I was a little girl and saw her in one of my favorite movies to this day---The Day The Earth Stood Still. I loved her voice and wished I had one like her. I am 61 years old and watched everything she made. I am so sorry for your loss. My mother passed last year. I lean on God's Strength and comfort. My prayer is he gives you the same strength and comfort he gives me.

I will always watch any show or movie that she appears on. Ms. Neal, you will be missed by your loved ones and admirers. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. The first time I saw Patricia was in the Little House and the Prairie episode, I felt something so strong in her performance. I was so mesmerized with this woman, but she also carried the last name as my grandmother. I hope that more people remember this woman not only for her talents as an actress, but as a giving and loving person that I know she was and that life wasn't as easy for her. She had strength and courage among love and compassion for others who weren't as fortunate in life as she was.
August 09, 2010
I loved Patricia Neal's fantastic acting and her haunting beauty. My favorite film is "The Fountainhead", she looked great and the chemistry between her and Gary Cooper was there in full force. They don't make movies like that anymore. She will be missed but will live on in her films. My condolences to her family.

August 09, 2010

When I first met Miss Neal at a theatre conference, I thought all of the audience would kneel in her honor.

This grand lady, actress supreme wilI surely be missed.

It was a great pleasure to see and meet Miss Neal at the MCC Theatre Conferences in Omaha Nebraska in 2007 and 2008.

Miss Neal appeared at Chicago's Music Box Theatre following her appearance in Omaha, Nebraska. Miss Neal graciously greeted movie fans for the showing of her movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Miss Neal personalized each autograph for her numerous movie fans, and her autobiography, "As I Am."

Miss Neal and I share the same birth day, January 20. Miss Neal was a very humble lady. When I told her we share the same birth day, Miss Neal replied, "When is YOUR birthday!"

We also have the same middle name, LOUISE. Her family had coal miners, and my father worked for South Shore Coal Company in Chicago.

It's hard to believe that the calls from her and associates stopped coming. That is NOT a dampening tarnish on her sparkle, it is just how life sometimes happens.

I met another famous actress in a support group in Chicago years ago. This illustrous lady, AND the comedian Jimmy Durante said the same thing as Miss Neal.... "The calls stopped coming." .....

"Good night Mrs. Calabash wherever you are."

"Good night Patricia darling wherever you are."

I'm sure, Patricia, that there is a bright shining star in heaven glowing brightly along side of you.

Love to you Miss Patricia, to your wonderful wit, sense of style and grace.

Marilyn Bardzinski Adler, Chicago, Illinois

I loved Patricia Neal (and her work) from childhood on, and was honored to spend time with her on several occasions when she was in the Omaha area. It was evident that she was both a superb actress -unmatchable, really- and an equally marvelous human being. Refinement, earthiness, a voice of mist and low light... These qualities and the woman who embodied them are irreplaceable.

Peace to you, Ms. Neal, and to your family.

My late friend, Rosalind (Roddey) Arnold Johnson and her sister Kathleen Arnold grew up in Knoxville in the 1930s and 40s. Kathleen and Patricia Neal shared an apartment in New York when both were struggling actresses. Roddey used to recall the times when she would go to new York and take both her sister and Ms. Neal out to dinner. She said they always ate as if they hadn't eaten in weeks and would stuff rolls into their purses for leaner times. Of course Patricia went on to become a great actress and Kathleen, an advertising executive.

Just thought I'd share what always made Neal a person of interest to me.

Ms. Neal was wonderful in the movie The Homecoming where she played the mom of the Walton children. I have always thought she was one of the most brave and courageous people that I've ever heard of to come back after the series of strokes. For her to have to endure the pain of lung cancer, the illness that also claimed my father, is so heart breaking. I am so sorry she had to succumb to such a painful illness. Bless her and her entire family.

Remember me with smiles and laugher, for that is how I will remember you. If you only remember me with tears then don't remember me at all. I will remember Ms Neal with Smiles and Laughter, because she was a great actress and even though it was not her quote she said it and it has stuck with me. I will miss her. Patricia's first impression on me was like a thunderbolt. I saw her on PBS in the play, "Moon for the Misbegotten". Her depth and passion seemed to be issuing from a source that was placed in her at a young age. She was born in a coal mining town just as I was and it seems that there is something about those Appalachian Mtns. that burns an indelible print on your soul. I loved her, still love her and will always be grateful for the gritty honesty she delivered in all her works and throughout her life.
Born in Warriormine, W.VA.

To the Neal and Dahl families,
I got to know Patricia during my twenty three years at Eastern Airlines in the Atlanta airport.

We had a wonderful time when I escorted her to Liberace's opening at Radio City in 1985 and to the party after at Trump Tower.

In 1991 I asked her to come to Atlanta for a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation and she didn't hesitate. She was invited to events over three days and went to every single one. She was so kind and gracious to everyone she met and she was as interested in them as they were excited to meet her.

I met many "stars" through those years but none to compare to Patricia. She was a most caring and compassionate person. I will miss her for the rest of my days.
My sincere sympathy,

I was saddended to hear of Patricia's death. I have been a fan of hers for many years. "Hud" was the first mature film I was allowed to go to and was captivated by her performance. I followed her though her nomination and winning the Academy Award to the present. My kinship with her was further strengthened when I learnt we shared the same birthdate. I always wanted to meet her and hoped to bump into her when I was in Edgartown but never did. She showed remarkable spirit throughout her life and the world is diminshed without her.

Growing up seeing her in many things such as Little House On The Prairie, The Walton Movie and HUD, one could see her passion and professionalism no matter what she was dealing with in her own personal life. Much sympathy to her family as they celebrate her wonderful life and contributions to the world. Her legacy will certainly live on for all to enjoy, reflect and appreciate a wonderful and graceful lady.

HER GENEROSITY INCLUDED HER ASSOCIATION WITH REGINA LAUDUS ABBEY IN BETHLEHEM CONNECTICUT. I REMEMBER HER SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS TO ASSIST IN FUND RAISERS FOR THE BENEDICTINE SISTERS. MAY SHE BE AT LONG LAST AT PEACE AND GOD GRANT MERCY TO HER.

Patricia, you were an icon to my mom. She made me look at you to encourage me to be like you. She remembered all your trials and made me believe I could do anything, Just like you.
This is truly a sad day for me. God love you! You'll never be forgotten.

Her part as a nurse in Midway, along with John Wayne and so many other great actors was superb and though I knew the history of her strokes, it may in some way have made her even better as an actress. She represents the era of movie stars at the height of Hollywood, and yet in real life, she never forgot those she grew up with. Classy lady and she will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to the family. What a great lady, what a woman! I've watched her in John loves Mary so many times, it is one of my favorites. But, when she was on screen with "The Duke" now there was an unforgetable team, tough but tender.
Thanks for the memories and,
May God hold you in the Palm of HIS Hand.

I'm sure that so many, many people are heartbroken as I am. She was one of the all time greats and was just so beautiful. Just yesterday I was thinking how much I would love to meet her, and so was shocked today to read of her passing.
