Professor Kurtz was one of my teachers at SUNY/Buffalo back in the 1980s, and I was fortunate to do an Independent Study with him. He was an amazing teacher who was a crusader for truth and critical inquiry, but he also respected and encouraged each student's point of view. Although the field of philosophy has lost an icon, Professor Kurtz's spirit will live on within the legions of students that he taught and inspired. My heartfelt condolences to his family at this difficult time.

Paul Kurtz was my philosophy professorat Union College in Schebectady N.Y. in 1964.His lectures on epistomology opened my eyes to objective, skeptical reasoning- a rudder for the remained of my intellectual life. His influence will be felt for a long time.

Dr. Kurtz was one of my professors at SUNY Buffalo more than 40 years ago. He truly expanded my universe with his intelligence and insightful thinking and helped give me the ability to understand the value of different viewpoints about our our lives as they are in this world as it is. He was one of the few professors that helped give me..and allowed me..the freedom to think, expand and grow. The gift of his extraordinary mind leaves this world with a great loss.

And to his family..please know that he will always be remembered and respected by grateful students, past and present.

Thank you Dr. Kurtz.

May the God of all comfort sustain you, console you and heal your broken hearts.

His books were there for me when I turned my skepticism toward religion. I learned there were many thoughtful and insightful people with the same uncertainties about faith and religion as I had.
He always came across kind and caring - I agreed with his ideas and philosophy about humanity.

I do not see any reason for putting such statements in the passive voice.
Let's be active like Paul Kurtz was.

I mourn the passing of a great freedom fighter, in the death of Professor Paul Kurtz. He fought Nazi oppression and atrocities as a soldier in WWII. He later fought for our personal freedom of thought, belief, expression, speech, press, and constitutional rights. He has fought against enemies of freedom in America. The Professor is a National Hero.

Paul was a great inspiration to me and perhaps my greatest early influential mentor. He was truly a person whom I sincerely admired, respected and revered for his great inner strength and pioneering footprint for secular values and its proper place in our modern society.

He was truly the father of secular humanism.

His "Affirmations" have been an important anthem for me upon the onset of my intellectual expansion and with great esteem I sought more and more from the mind of Paul. Having met him on four occasions, the last at length, I always longed more occasions.

I deeply regret that I could not manage to fully engage with the well-intended means I had fully intended for Paul and his various extensions prior to his passing. There was so much that I had wanted to cover with him.

For the family he leaves behind, certainly it is without any question that Paul has meant so much to so many. What he stood for was much larger than he the person could ever be. That was his aspiration. His legacy may never be surpassed in the era and application in which he functioned.

With a heavy heart,
