i met Rick at Boscombe Down England and no i am not in the forces but a guy who was doing long term maintenance to the air crew building. He was the guy who let me leave all my work tools in his office overnight rather than carry them all the way back to the gate each night. Although i did not know him greatly i am glad his dream of being the boss on the shuttle was fulfilled. RIP my friend

Dear Evelyn, Laura, and Matthew
I was going through Wal-Mart and out of fate I found your book on a table of other books to be sold...the thing was that it was the only one left so I said to my self wow i have to have this. Because believe or not I want to be an Aerospace Engineer so i start to reading and for the first time i actually cried over a book because some how it reminded me of the grief i went thru when my grandmother died. Then it got me thinking wow what if i lose my sweetheart. Anyway I want to thank you for writing this wonderful book about a man that has really changed my view on things. I really wish i could have met him. God bless you guys, I dont think i could go thru something like that

Dear Evelyn, Laura, and Matthew-
I just wanted all of you to know that I have recently read "High Calling," and it has changed my life. I have always went to church and prayed for my wife and kids, but now I pray with my wife and kids. Rick is my hero! I try to pattern my life in the way he lived. He is my inspiration. I know you've probably heard this a thousand times but God lets everything happen for a reason. I've mourned for you all and I've prayed to God everynight to help you all through this time of grief. I look forward to meeting you, and Laura, and Matthew someday as well as Rick. I love you all!

Dear Evelyn, Laura & Matthew,
My heart goes out to you on the tragic loss of your beloved Rick. What a fine man he was and so inspiring! My dad gave me your book and I cried thru most of it. What a wonderful story, but how hard that must have been to write as you relived the loss over again! My faith had lagged over the years and Your book touched me in such a powerful way that I felt engerized all over again and I had to find a way to let you know how it impacted me - then I found this site. Thank you for finding it within yourself to share your husband and your personal lives with complete strangers so we could grow from it. May God keep you in his tender care...

Dear Mrs. Husband and family

I was given your book "High Calling" for my birthday recently by my British parents-in-law. It was awe inspiring. It made me mourn for you and your children. It also made me realize how precious each God given day is when you still have each other. My husband and I also love the Lord. May He sustain you, comfort you and bless you abundantly throughout your life. With my love

To the Husband Family:
When my family learned of the tragedy of the loss of 7 wonderful lives, our hearts broke for each family member. We lost my sister Cathy Ann Vessecchia on November 30th, at 49 years of age. But watching your love for the Lord and announcing Rick's love for the Lord, gave us an excitement that Cathy was there to greet him into the arms of Jesus. She, as Rick, loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. May we all have peace in knowing we will be able to rejoice with them again! Mrs. Husband, you are a great tribute to the faith. What a testimony you showed on T.V.
Jesus said...."Well done my faithful servant. Rick and I are very proud of you!"
Love in Christ:
Ginny

I have been talking to the Lord a lot lately, and asking Him to comfort you powerfully these days. I know Rick was sharing Jesus with his fellow commrades, and I pray they are all in heaven worshiping before the throne because of Rick's passion for the Savior. As is true with any martyr, death doesn't stop them, it only increases and strengthens their message to the ends of the earth.

"Oh Jesus, Comforter, Peace...do your greatest work in the lives of the Husbands and all their family and friends. 'Gather them in Your arms and hold them close to your heart.' AMEN!"

Dear Evelyn,
Chris and I are praying for you and your family. It's very hard to express my feelings for your loss. I've listened to Rick's sermon after his first flight into space and a sense of peace flooded over me. I remember our days as Sandies...what great times. God Bless You.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds,--and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless falls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor eer eagle flew--
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high, untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

When I first saw Commander Husband's face, I just liked him right away.

Now I know why!

His face did shine with the glory of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!

Thanks Commander Husband for being a bright light in such a dark space.

The rest of the crew members needed you up there.

I am sure you were on your true mission, telling the others about Jesus Christ!

I sincerely believe this was your only reason for God sending you into such a dark and cold place.

I am greatful that you will never see darkness again . . .

As a sister in Christ, I do love you so much.

Sincerely,

Marg

There were those of us in the Fresno area who followed Rick Husband's journey mostly because of his ties to Cal State Fresno (Fresno State). I know that I listened to the launch on the radio. I found it cool that he had a tie to my area.

I found it heartbreaking to hear of the shuttle's demise. I will always remember of the Columbia's shuttle crew just as I remember about the Challenger. A hole in my heart that is shaped like a space shuttle.

To the family of Rick Husband,
Like the rest of the nation, my heart and prayer goes out to you. From what I have been able to read and hear, Rick was a man of great faith and knew the Lord. So let it be a comfort to the family that you will meet up with him in Heaven. Heaven is sweeter now.
I understand your loss, because I lost my sister, Lillian Caceres,on Sept. 11, 2001. She worked on the 97th fl of 1WTC,and she too went to meet our Lord.
We will never understand why, but God knows and He will give us comfort to go on. We will never forget them and we will always love them.
You can be sure that I will be praying that God helps the family get through this hard time.
God bless you all. In Jesus'name.

February 02, 2003
I first learned of you when I was watching a morning news show a couple of weeks ago while getting ready for class. I was so into it, I was nearly late. The fact that you wanted to honor your alma mater by wearing a Fresno State University sweatshirt while in space touched me. I never met you, but I do know that you were a great man, and a heroic one at that. My heart dropped when I heard the tragic fate of you and your crew. My heartfilled prayers goes out to your family and to all you have known and touched. God bless you, Rick Husband, you will never be forgotten.

May God Bless you and keep you and your loved ones safe. Our prayers are with you and your family. Please take comfort that he is now in a better place.

Husband says the fact that technical tasks and detailed experiments will fill his time in space does not obscure the deeper appreciation that comes to him in space.

"I am a strong believer and a Christian. I look out that window at what a beautiful creation God has made. ... It gives me a real sense of appreciation that God is mindful of us and that he cares enough to send Jesus to be our savior."
