He fit so well in a script that you couldn't tell it from real. A marvelous talent and always such a pleasure to see on the screen. The Movies he could have made we can only guess how wonderful he would have been. Seemed like someone to just sit and have coffee with. God Bless him for trying to have heart surgery that worked. I will miss his smile most of and cheerful voice. All the best to family and friends.

For Robert...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

My deepest sympathy to the Prosky Family...I don't know if Robert Prosky is my relative. Robert born in Pennsylvania. My family and relatives born in Pennsylvania, too. I would like to know about the family tree to see if we are related. I live in Florida since 1994.
December 30, 2008
Bob and I met at the Abbey Theatre in Manayunk where we both cut our theatrical teeth. I worked with him in a few plays--he directed me in "Bell.Book and Candle"--we even were in competition in an early 50's live TV program called "Stand by Broadway"--he won the contest and went on to work at the Bucks County Playhouse then to Arena Stage--the rest is history. Before he married we "shared" an apatment in Brooklyn--I say shared but I was really subletting the place while he worked at the Arena in Washington, D.C. He was a wonderful dancer--polka, waltz--very light on his feet He was always a gentle, sweet man in person. We would run into each other from time to time and he would catch me up on his life. He was so happy and thrilled at his ever widening circle of career experiences without a trace of the usual actor;s braggadocio. He spoke of his Moscow run as one in humble awe. As it is obvious from the many sentiments expressed here that he was indeed loved but the greatest laurel he received is when his son said he was "a wonderful father." My sincere condolences to Ida, Stefan, Andy and John. Bob was a delightful warm person who is, and will be, sorely missed.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Prosky's passing. What an inspiration he and his family was to me and they never knew. Andy and John will continue the Prosky Legacy. Wish the family the best, always!!! He will be missed,but we will remember him and the family in our hearts.

Sincerely,

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

December 14, 2008

Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so solely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadow,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth -
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

God Bless Mr. Prosky. He will be missed. My sympathies and prayers to his family.

I'm sorry for your loss. I too enjoyed Mr.Prosky's work. He will be missed. God bless you all.
December 14, 2008
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To Mr Prosky's Family and Friends,
As many people on here have written, I did not know him personally but was a huge fan. As a younger fan, he always reminded me of a warm and loving grandfather. My condolences to you and your family, and he will be missed dearly.
December 14, 2008
I remember seeing him in the movies "Rudy", and " The Lord's of Discipline". He was a fine actor.
December 14, 2008
I loved his work. Like so many other character actors, the face (and not the name) was so familiar. Rest is peace!
December 14, 2008
I, too, counted Bob as a friend for over 30 years. His gift for acting was joined by the gifts of generosity and kindness.

Several years ago, he offered to meet over dinner with my godson, who at the time was acting in high school plays and thinking about acting as a career. Bob earned my everlasting gratitude by including with his encouragement and insights the caution that 90% of equity actors earn less than $10,000 per year from their craft.

On another occasion, he gave comfort when I faced a troubling medical procedure by reassuring me (accurately, and from personal experience) that it wouldn't be painful. He even phoned several days later to see how it had gone. He thought to do this in the midst of busy preparations for a theater role in NYC.

I am grateful for having known Bob and his family and will miss him very much.

We send our love and deep sympathy to Ida and to his sons, daugthers-in-law and grandchildren.

Prosky Family,

The pain, the grief, and the feelings of helplessness of losing a loved one can seem unbearable.
God ears are toward your cries for help, He is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.
May these words from God give you all a measure of comfort.

With Sympathy,
December 12, 2008
He was great on Hill Street Blues.Rest in peace.
December 12, 2008
Bob Prosky was my neighbor when I first moved to Washington to work at the Arena Stage. I felt honored to be a colleague and a friend.

He was not only a sensitive and talented actor, but he was always thoughtful and supportive of everyone in the company. He was a caring member of our theatre community. His sense of humor made even the toughest days bearable.

He will be missed by all who worked with him and by all of us who were always thrilled by his performances.

December 12, 2008
I loved his work. I know others did as well. He was a wonderful actor and I will miss him. My sympathy goes out to the family and to all his fans.
December 12, 2008
How sad to think that Bob is gone. He was an anchor of the resident company at the Arena, where I worked with him for four years as stage manager. So many varied roles: the Stage Manager in Our Town, the Landlord in Moon Children, Willy in Death of a Salesman, a randy Russian in The Ascent of Mount Fuji.
My favorite memory of him was on our tour to Moscow. In the third act of Our Town (with simultaneous translation) he was not happy with the response he got from the audience in a speech in which the line read "Mrs Smith", indicating how un-unique we all are. He asked one of the translators what the most common name in Russia was. When he substituted that name the next night, you could hear the whole audience gasp. That connection with the audience is what acting is all about. Bob got it, he was very special.
My condolences to Ida and the boys.
December 12, 2008
Thank you for your talent on screen. We enjoyed very much. You will be missed. God bless you and your family.

To Mrs. Prosky and his 3 Sons;
In some way I feel I know Robert. He was personable in his acting. I think he was one of the "cream of the crop". I am saddened that his life on this earth has come to an end. I know that Heaven will be richer but we will be poorer.
I can see he is/was a very good good person. My heart Goes out to you his wife and you , his 3 sons.
I lost my oldest Son in 2003 and I know grief well. There are no words and healing takes a journey of a lifetime, I have come to know this.
I pray that GOD will be with you every step of each day now and forever until we all meet on the other side of this earth, Heaven.
GOD hold you.

I loved him in "Hill Street Blues" taking over for Michael Conrad who died in the early 80's. Conrad's line at the end of roll call was always "let's be careful out there". Prosky's line at the roll call ending, "let's do it to them before they do it to us". I miss both those guys. Thanks for entertaining us, Mr. Prosky. You were great in "Rudy", too.

I took an acting class from him as a teen, approximately 1970 at Arena Stage, and remember his patience and the inspiration he created to this day.

The true sign of an actor, is that they make you believe that they are whom they are portraying. Your husband/father, did exactly this throughout his career. Thank you all for sharing him with us. May God give you His peace and comfort at this time of personal loss.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

A familiar face has laid to rest
In peace he lies until
The day the Almighty awakes
those sleep will rise according to his will

"Do not marvel at this, because the hour is comng in which all those in thememorial tombs will hear his voice and come out" - John 5:28,29

I really enjoyed him in Mrs. Doubtfire. I can look at that movie over and over again.

In my opinion, Michael Mann's Thief is one of the greatest movies of all time. That movie was carried by the performances of James Caan and Robert Prosky. The ability of those actors to portray opposing personalities so strong they crushed anything in their path created a classic thriller. What a blessing to Mr. Prosky that he was given this film in which to display his talent. What a blessing to us that he left us this film to enjoy.
