At my request, Roger Williams personally located (and autographed, too, without my even asking!) a record album that he had recorded back in the early 80s (“Your Evening With Roger Williams”) and which is now out of print and was one of my favorites of his albums, and his secretary sent it to me for only twenty bucks. I was totally honored by Mr. Williams' kindness and accommodating helpfulness, and I was overcome with delight to receive the album in the mail, and I appreciated that immensely. Well, he always said that as a child, he had vowed to be “audience friendly” if he ever became a famous pianist. Thanks for all the wonderful music, Roger!

I am so sorry to hear about Roger... He was such a nice man and was my fathers neighbor. He infact bought my fathers house that was across the street... When we told Roger that my dad was killed in a accident he dedicated songs to him while he was on tour. He always had a smile on his face and was so generous!

I still have the letter I showed you in the late 90's that you wrote to me as a boy in the early 60's when I had become inspired by your concert in Colorado Springs. Indeed, you were a wonderful inspiration for me.

A caring human being as well as a great musician. At a concert in my hometown, he walked around the concert hall and greeted people before playing. Shaking my mother's hand and warmly welcoming her to the concert he stopped to chat. She was THRILLED and recalled the meeting often until her death in 2009 at age 88. I am grateful for the joy he gave her and mourn with you his passing.

Born the son of a Lutheran pastor (Frederick Weertz), and a music teacher mother, one of the first places he played publicly was in church. Throughout his life, he never ceased praising God with the wonderful creative gifts he had been given. And now we still have them to enjoy. To God Be the Glory for this extraordinary person and life.

My mom passed away on September 19th. She was a long time member of Roger's fan club and every fall she would send him leaves that she found in bright colors in honor of her favorite song. I was ready to send some to Roger in her memory when I heard of his death. The world has lost a great pianist and one of his best fans. God bless them both.
October 12, 2011
My heart is heavy as I just sat down at my computer and read your Dad's Obit. He was always my piano player hero. At the age of 12 my piano teacher took a few of her better students to see your father play at the Mosque in Richmond, VA. We just loved him, as we were not bored! He kept us entertained and smiling the entire time. Just after the concert I fell ill to German Measles, but your Dad's concert lives on in my memories, and no one can ever take them away. You were so fortunate to have such a talented Dad. May he rest in peace and playing the piano with the best of the best in heaven.

My memories of Roger William's music were at a time in my life when I was a young teenage girl in love with the world and his music put the frame around that painting. Life was sweet, simple and romantic. Even today, when I hear one of his pieces, it takes me back to that time. His, was a life well lived and we all appreciate his contribution to our lives. That we all should make such a lasting impact on this world of ours. Rest in peace, Roger Williams and our sympathy to his family and friends.

To the family of Roger Williams. What a gift and wonderful talent we have been given to have your Dad and Grandfather Roger, share with the world. My grandparents and your grandparents were friends and members of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Your Grandfather Dr. Frederick Weertz was their pastor for many many years. My Mother Mary Jane Amend and her brother Conrad Amend grew up with your Dad they were friends, and went to Roosevelt High school together and then onto Drake University. Your Dad Roger played the piano at my parents wedding as your grandfather Dr. Weertz married them. He also baptized me in 1956. We meet you all once when you came back from California to Des Moines at the KRNT theater dedicating a new addition and 100 years of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Your Dad of course gave a concert for this big celebration. Think your great Uncle Dr. Beale and your great aunt who I remember was your grandmothers sister were all there. Must have been in the mid 60's.

I saw your Dad in concert many times and spoke with him several times. I now live in Dallas,Texas. I was raised listening to his wonderful music. I want you to know even though the three of you never lived in Iowa, Des Moines and the state of Iowa is very proud of what your Dad Roger Williams(Louis Weertz)did with his life and what a good man and loyal person he always was. He never became so famous that he forgot his friends and home town. He truly was a gift of talent and possessed kindness.

I remeber my family talking about the struggles your Dad and Mom, Joy had in New York City, while going to school and getting started in the business. My grandmother Elsie Amend made you Dads first concert suit at age 4. We always got a laugh at that since the suit didn't even have long pants.

Thanks for sharing your Father, Roger with all of us. He will be missed. Know he is at peace. My families sympathy is extended to you all.

The first time I had the pleasure of hearing Roger play, was in his living room. That was our first meeting and I left his home that day with a memory that will last a lifetime.

Roger, thank you so much for welcoming me into your family and allowing me to travel with you and your incredible musicians and have all of those wonderful experiences. I will never forget what it was like to feel the energy of your playing so up close and personal.

The world has lost a great pianist and human being. I will miss your playing, I will miss the evenings hanging out in the kitchen...I will miss you.

My heart and prayers go out to Jacque, Laura and Alice.

Rest in peace, my friend. Love always.

My heart sank September 6 when I phoned the Stephens Performing Arts Center here in Pocatello to get my tickets for Roger Williams' October 1 concert and was told it was canceled because of his illness. I was afraid we would never see him again, a lost joy we will long lament. I apologize for not knowing the names of you, his family, because we all owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude for having shared him with us, strangers to you, all these years. My personal condolences to you, for if we his "fans" grieve, certainly you his beloved family are devastated. I always looked forward to his coming back "home" to Pocatello to get another fix of his marvelous artistry and endearing persona.

Roger has been a part of my life since back in the 1950's. During his stay at Idaho State College, he lived in a ittle studio apartment with my aunt and uncle. My Dad took him on a pack trip into the central mountains of Idaho. Since then he has kept up with my family and did so up until a couple weeks ago. I can only imagine the music his talented hands are playing now that God is holding him. Thank you for the music Roger... You touched the lives of millions. I most assuredly will miss you. Rest easy, you deserve it.

Laura, Alice and families....

I always enjoyed watching and listening to your Dad's piano playing. I am thankful that God gave him the ability to play as he did and I especially enjoyed watching his effortless playing on The Hour of Power.

I pray that God will be with all of you in the days, weeks, months and years to come....to help you all cope with his home going to heaven.....never, NEVER to be in pain again!

What a gracious God we have, to have shared you with the world. I was awed by your preformance at the Broadmoor many years ago. You came down to where we were seated, and chatted with the four of us during intermission. Maybe because of your goodness, and talent there will be more people touched by music. My hope for your family is peace and comfort and the sure knowledge that you made the world a better place. Darline Horner

I am very sad at the passing of Mr Williams. I had the honor of performing with him about 25 years ago. I was young and in college and he very kind and patient with me. What I will remember the most was his infectoius smile. He seemed to be very happy when he performed and I think that is why he performed so well. We not only lost a great performer but a very kind individual.

As a young sixth grader at Marion Elementary school in Marion, SC, Roger came and gave a concert for students in about 1959. He must have played Autumn Leaves at the request of the students 12 times. He was very gracious in stating "I have no problem playing a song that exposes you to the delights of music and I hope you will appreciate the art as much as I do". A true gentleman and someone who gained my and fellow classmates respect. A memorable and cherished moment. To the family please accept my sympathy and thanks for sharing a wonderful talent and his influence on me. Bill Hennecy

It's not very often you get to meet one of your childhood heroes. I have been fortunate enough to not only meet him but play with him on numerous occasions and spend time with him offstage talking about life and all that goes with it. He was an exuberant and energetic person, always a joy to be around, an unequaled pianist, and a friend that would always remember your name and treat you like you were special. His love for his audience was easily seen in his smiling face and his world class performance.
He is greatly missed.

It is with great sadness in my heart to hear that the Autumn Leaves have really died.
"Autumn Leaves" played by Roger Williams is my number one song it is the one I always ask for. Just yesterday the D.J played it for me with the words in Spanish. No one plays it better then Rodger Williams. I will always feel the song in my heart.I also wore out two of my 45rpm's playing Autumn Leaves. What a beautiful time to leave this earth - in autumn just like the leaves. God hold you in his hands. Condolences to all. Frances

To the family of ROGER WILLIAMS, as well as Mr. Williams himself (whom I hope is observing the accolades still laid on him as he enjoys his Heavenly reward) I just want to say that the first time I heard his records being played on the radio I was a young teenager. I am 67 now and can still recall the beauty of all of his music I ever heard. He will be preserved in history as either the top or in the top 2 of the world's best pianists. I am sure his recordings will be preserved, as well, so that we can continue to enjoy his outstanding performances. God bless you Mr. Roger WIlliams, and your family who is mourning your loss just now. They, too, can listen to the playing of your music and realize that you have not died....you're just performing in Heaven now for the presidents who were waiting there for you to come join them. He is at peace, and hopefully his dearly loved ones will be, too. Rest In Peace gifted one!

God's blessed us with an amazing talented pianist and performer that inspired me to go forward in my keyboarding and organist playing. Mistakes are Alterations of interpretation. This is true in life -as the Perfect World is yet to come...and I feel RW has finally arrived at the greatest Music Hall of all - Heaven! Amazing Grace was my favorite of his hymns played on Robert Schullar Programs.

"I remember meeting Roger at Normal University in Illinois. It would have been in the early 70s. After the concert people were allowed to just walk up on stage and visit with him. At that time a photographer from the University would take your picture with Roger. I shall always think fondly of Roger and our meeting and be grateful for the picture. Such a nice man."

I am so saddened by the passing of Mr. Piano. From the start, on the Ed Sullivan show, to the very end, I coveted his playing. As he grew in popularity, I collected all his LP's, Cassettes, and most of his DVD's. When I was having pain, at nigt, or unhappiness for any reason, I listened to his beautiful music on my earphones, and drifted off to sleep. I can't list my favorites, because they all are, but my husband and I courted , and listened to his "Only You", and it became "Our Song". God speed dear friend. My sweet brother died in 1999, but just months before, my birthday gift to him, was to take him to the Norfolk Va., Scope, for our second time of attending your concerts. We both love the piano, and his mastering of it was so pleasureable, we will be blessed for our remaining years. I am a few months short of 80, and I can honestly say that his music has so enriched my life, and countless others. Rest in peace dear friend, and may your family continue to be blessed by your beauty.Incidently, my baby brother and husband, both share your birth month. They were both born on Aug. 14th.

Welcome Home
written by L J Coon

Welcome home my friend, from so much suffering
Welcome home my friend, step out of the pain
It’s ok to cry, we've all seen tears before
Its ok my friend welcome home

Talk of love one’s lost, so many years ago
And how you hurt inside, till no more tears would flow
Let the healing start, you can't look back no more
Its ok my friend welcome home

Welcome home, from so much suffering
Welcome home, step out of the pain
It’s ok to cry, we've all seen tears before
Its ok my friend, welcome home

Could I somehow sooth, your pain that lives within
If you just let go, the healing will begin
Holding on so tight, letting go is half the test
Its ok my friend welcome home

Welcome home, from so much suffering
Welcome home, step out of the pain
It’s ok to cry, we've all seen tears before
Its ok my friend, welcome home

It’s ok my friend…the pain won't hurt, no more ...
