I saw Sandy's story for the first time on one of our local TV channels here in Kenya and went straight on the internet to try and get a way of how to communicate with her only to come accross her obituary. I did not know her but her death made me very sad like i had lost a long time friend. RIP Dear Sandy.

The years may come and go, our hearts may still ache for our love ones. But the good memories will live in our hearts forever.

Psalms 147:3- He is healing the broken-hearted ones, and is binding up their painful spots.

It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since my friend Sandy Allen passed away. As many of the remembrances on this website attest, Sandy was much admired for her compassion, sense of humor and willingness to make those who are "different" feel better about themselves. She was especially devoted to children, giving talks at elementary schools about tolerance and acceptance, and was a member of the Pacers Reading Program where she read to kids and let them try on her big shoes. During the last year of her life, Sandy worked with me on a book aimed at young people about her high school experiences in Shelbyville, Ind. By sharing this especially challenging time in her life, she continues to give back to children with her message of being proud and standing tall. If you would like more information on "World's Tallest Woman: The Giantess of Shelbyville High," please visit my website at www.thegiantessbook.com. RIP, my tall, funny friend.

January 12, 2009
sandy had so much strength, tho she was a tall girl, she went against the unfounded odds, and kept living, thats what we need to do when were so called diffrent. She lived her life, she will be very much missed, many of us are diffrent in various ways, I am diffrent, and in my studies of the sscriptures, i well know she will live again, her family will love her again, share with her again. This is not the end, Death will be done away with, tears, notice Revelation 21:3,4. Love her now, love her then. Respectifully

I saw Ms. Allen several times on television. Her message was always so positive and humurous. She was definately a role model for us all. It is about acceptance and love. Accepting yourself and loving one another.

Her strength was something to be admired. Rest in peace. Many blessings to your loved ones.

I had met Sandy back in 1997 while she was in the hospital. She was truly an amazing woman. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and freinds.
August 18, 2008
I was so blessed and privilaged to not only meet Sandy, but to spend the afternoon with her, driving to her favorite resturant and having lunch and getting to know her. I also got to meet her family. I was truly overwhelmed with her compassion, her strength and her determination to live life to the fullest and to help others, as she put it, with bigger problems than herself. She will always be in everyone's hearts. Rest now dear friend and know that many have learned so much from you. God be with your family and hold them in his loving care.
August 18, 2008
I DID NOT KNOW HER. BUT I HAVE SEEN HER ON T.V. AM DIFFERENT BUT WHEN GOD SEES US WE ALL LOOKS ALIKE TO HIM.MUCH LOVE TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
August 18, 2008
I did not know Sandy I did Read about her though. And i wanted to say this to her family and friends.
ONE DAY A FRIEND DIED.

And on that clear, cold morning,
In the warmth of her bedroom,
I was struck with the pain of learning
that sometimes - There isn't any more.

No more hugs,
No more moments to celebrate together,
No more phone calls just to chat,
No more "just one minute."

Sometimes, what we care about the most goes away.
Never to return before we can say good-bye,
Say "I Love You."

So while we have it . . it's best we love it . .
And care for it and fix it when it's broken
And take good care of it when it's sick.

This is true for marriage ... And friendships ..
And children with bad report cards;
And dogs with bad hips;
And aging parents and grandparents
We keep them because they are worth it,
Because we cherish them!

Some things we keep --
Like a best friend who moved away
Or a classmate we grew up with.
There are just some things that
Make us happy, No matter what.

Life is important,
And so are the people we know
And so, we keep them close!

She may not be on this earth but she will be with all of her familyand friends. Long live her souls and spirits.
IM am sorry to her family and friends.

I DID NOT HAVE THE OPPURTUNITY TO KNOW MS. ALLEN, BUT ANYONE WHO USES THEMSELVES AS A WILLING VESSEL FOR OTHER PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY YOUNG CHILDREN, TRUELY IS AN INSPIRATION! I PRAY THAT ALL FAMILY N FRIENDS WILL BE COMFORTED WITH PEACE, AND CARRY ON MS. ALLENS LEGACY.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

August 17, 2008
i thank God for ms. allen's spirit. she took lemons and made the sweetest lemon-aide. i always thought i was ugly because i had big feet (12.5 wide), short hair that never would grow, and was always taller than the other boys and girls in my class. but when i saw ms. allen and read her story i realized it's not about me. there is always someone that has it worse than you do. and God is a good God because he blessed us with a beautiful, wonderful woman like ms. sandy allen. she knew she was beautiful just the way God made her and i thank her for giving me the confidence to stand tall. God truely decided to take an angel home to rest.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To The family and friends of the late Sandy Allen

It’s God’s Will And We Must Comply
By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.

Life is uncertain,
But as sure as we are born one day we must die
Sometimes we sit and wonder why
The fact is it’s God’s will and we must comply.

Throughout our lives we live through happiness and sadness
And many toils and strife
And when our earthly life is over we enter into our “eternal life”

Whenever a loved one or friend makes their earthly depart
It is natural for it to bring hurt and sorrow to our heart
And to deal with our loss we grieve, mourn, and cry
In all essence we must remember this is God’s will and we must all comply

For those of us that are left behind
We must cherish the special memories
And keep them all in mind
Just remember it is not for us to question why we have to die
It’s Gods will and we all have to comply.

May God Bless and comfort all of you

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To the family of Sandy, you are in my prayers. Sandy was a wonderful person and such a sweet person. I remember her getting on the bus and how the kids would tease her. I was glad to know she didn't carry that with her but talked to kids and teach them everyone is special in their own way, no matter how they looked or what sort of disability they had. She sure will be missed. She touched so many lives. God bless,

To the family of Sandy,
I to was very lucky and fortunate to have met her; I actually met her at the Niagara Falls Ontario Museum, although I am saddened that she has left us way to soon, I am happy to hear she had left the museum. I spent time sitting and talking to her, we talked about everyday things, I remember we talked especially about turquoise jewerly. I have through the years thought of Sandy, I am glad to hear she found happiness and gave so much love and hope to so many. I never knew that when we met we were the same age. May God Bless you Sandy and your family and keep you close to his heart. You truly were an inspiration and you touched my life.

I saw Sandy on TV many times. I was always impressed with how comfortable she was with her uniqueness and celebrity. She seemed very well adjusted, charming and truly happy, which is more than most of us can hope to be. Rest in peace , Sandy.

To the family of Sandy Allen,

Please take comfort in the fact that God makes no mistakes. I had the honor of meeting Sandy when I was 10 years old and I still have the photograph that she was gracious enough to take with me and my sister 32 years ago! What a lady! My fascination as a child became admiration as an adult! You go girl! She showed us all that different is beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing her with the rest of the world. May God bless you and may your memories sustain you now and always.

Sandy,
I am devastated to hear of your passing. You stood tall in the face of adversity and smiled through it all. I am going to put a picture of you in my locker at work to remind myself of how you empowered women and how to deal with what it is like to be different. I am different too and sometimes I get so frustrated. You are my hero.

To the Allen's Family: I am very sorry to hear of Sandy's passing. She was so motivational to so many people. I know that this must be a very difficult time for you but may you find comfort in God's promise to bring an end to death and that broken hearts that comes with it.

Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”

I've known about Sandy ever since I was a kid in the '70s and I bought my first Guinness Book of World Records. Since then, I would see her over the years on programs and in articles and she always seemed like a warm, loving person with a great sense of humor. I cried when I heard she died because another iconic figure from my childhood had passed away...but I also felt some relief that she is no longer suffering. Rest in peace, sweet Sandy.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Being from the same city as Sandy, I had the honor of meeting and seeing her few times and everytime she would treat me and my family like we were a part of hers.
Sandy attended grade school at Charles Major school and this weekend we are having an all class reunion, we were praying that she would be healthy enough to attend. Now I know she will be there in spirit. God now has a big angle not body wise but heart and soul. Sandy will not be forgotten.

My cousin was a tall person, I always remember her telling us, "Stand tall and be proud of who you are". Sandy may you stand tall and be proud as you enter the Gates of Heaven.
August 13, 2008
Wow! It is so heartbreaking to here that she had passed away. Even though I have not met her personally, I can see that she was loved by those who knew her.
At least now she can rest in true peace. (Eccl. 9:5)

Some people you don't have to meet in person to like them. I saw Sandy a couple of times on the Discovery channel and loved her personality. She was a remarkable person who was a spokesman for those who "were different" from "the others". God Bless you Sandy for being yourself and for being amongst us. You made a difference to many.

Just as Mary Edwards Walker was, and is, the only woman to have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, and Harriet Quimby was the first woman to earn a pilot's license, God chose you to be the tallest. For the many who loved you, you will always be the tallest. Rest in peace...

August 13, 2008
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and close friends of one of perhaps the most wonderful people to ever live. Sandy's amazing smile and GENUINE love for people and children everywhere were captivating. Her huge stature were dwarfed only by the size of her beautiful heart...
August 13, 2008
May God take Sandy into his arms now, she has truly done a wonderful job for anyone who is challenged with a "difference" - what a great example of compassionate heroism. Sandy will not be forgotten!
