I just found this out a few minutes ago. I thought of her name and googled her. I was born in 1965. I once wrote to several soap opera stars in about 1980. Shell mailed me a large autographed picture and a note saying she'd be starring in a show called "growing pains" but I guess that plan was changed. Anyway, was def a fan of the soap stars back then. Rip Shell Kepler.

I have been watching GH since I was a young teenager. I just found this guestbook now as I watch the 50th anniversary specials for GH this week. Shell was such a talented girl, and so fun to watch. I used to come home from school, then work, to watch the show. Now I can watch it on SoapNet instead of having to tape it! She was a special lady, and she will always be missed.

I was so saddened to hear that Shell passed away. Hard to believe it's been a year already. I didn't know Shell, but I have been watching GH for about 30 years, and to me, Shell was a BIG part of GH and it's history.
She will always be remembered by me.
My thoughts and prayers will remain for Andrew, her family and her friends, and the fans that loved her.
You are loved & missed, Shell!!
January 13, 2009
Thanks Andrew, for the link.
I couldn't believe it when I first read the news last year. I sent the article to a friend who is a longtime GH fan who was saddened too. I hope they did a tribute on the show, she deserved a big one! I always thought it to be the best gig to have; after all, how many actors can boast having the same job for over 20 years? Not many, certainly not any of my friends who are actors. Rest well, your memory will live on and on.

Happy Birthday Shell my love
Several months ago, you hosted one of the best birthday parties I ever had…just a small gathering of friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Your very last picture of you alive was taken that day with Willis and Angela. I hope you don’t mind, but I wear that red shirt in the picture quite often.
However, today is your birthday # 49, and 49 is one of my lucky numbers. So, today I hope my luck turns for the better. It has been a very difficult and bad year without you in many ways. I can’t believe I actually miss your snoring, your constant yakking on the phone, and your constant reminders to close the kitchen cabinets. (I am really bad at that)
Evenings are now cold and quiet. I miss having you pet my leopard spots on my body and calling me Big Kitty. My spots made me feel ugly all my life, but you loved them and called them beautiful. I miss hearing you say “let’s cuddle” in the middle of the day. Most of all I miss hearing the words “I love you”.
Loving you was the best thing to ever happen to me. Odd, that a little back roads country boy would meet the most beautiful big city girl as yourself and ask me to live with you. When we met, we were both going thru some hard times, but you finally gave me a reason not to give up on many of my dreams. You also lit the spark to see beyond those dreams, and gave me the drive to be more creative. BTW the dress I died last night turned out amazing thanks to your inspiration.
Little did I realize that you are loved by thousands of people. I am so blessed that many of these people wrote letters of love and support. I really never felt like I deserved anything as amazing as the kindness I have felt from many of your fans. I still feel unworthy of the love you showed me. I only wish you were still here for all of us to wish you another happy birthday and to say I love you one more time.

I still love you Shell

I never met Shell. I was only a fan like so many others who signed this book. I oddly enough just heard of this today and have been searching the internet for information as I am in total shock. Poor, poor Andrew!!!!! I read your entries and just feel your pain. I know a part of you died the day Shell died. My heart goes out to you my friend. I wish there was something I could say or do to ease your pain. Please know there are so many of us that don't even know her that have a void right now. I cannot even imagine what you must be going through. I know your hurt will never go away but I do pray that over time, it will get a bit easier. Take care of yourself and surround yourself with friends and loved ones.

I just found out about Shell's passing and I feel like I lost a friend. Well, we all did. A 'lacy lady' through and through, I owe it all to Shell for inspiring me to be the creative person I am. It was she who brought out the creative talent in me, and I will never forget that!Heaven is a much brighter place now. And my heart is with Andrew & Shell's family. She touched so many lives didn't she!! What an amazing spirit she had, and that never dies!

I watched this young actress on G.H. She was very talented, but, why is her cause of death such a secret? I am a Christian and I believe in the Power of God, perhaps her families testimony can help someone else who may be suffering a loss. I don't know, but I believe her fans perhaps they would like to know. Rest In Peace, May God be with your family.
May 01, 2008
To all who loved her my sympathy to you. I have almost every beautiful outfit she designed & I will remember her always for the joy I get when I wear them, she was truely a lovely talented woman & will be missed by all.

Shell's character Amy was so funny on GH and worked so well with Genie, Denise, Chris, John, and David. It was like they were a real family! I miss those days and I miss Shell...and now you're a real Angel!
March 22, 2008
Andrew,
May your many wonderful memories of Shell bring comfort to you during this very difficult time. Only time will heal your heart. Shell brought spunk to GH, and style to simple inexpensive fashion. I've watched GH since 1969 & still tape on dvr everyday to watch. You and all Shells' family are in my prayers.
March 13, 2008
I met Shell in June 2004 at a pageant where a mutual friend of ours was competing for a crown. A few weeks later she asked me out on our first date. We had an on again/off again relationship. In the final 8 months of her life, we were "on again" and in love.

I never asked her why she moved to Portland, and she never talked about it. We had similar interests. We have both traveled nearly every major city that a person can name. We both loved the art of acting and creating. We both loved to help other people in need. We helped many mutual friends with sewing projects, recording projects, shows, and cooking. I took her to her first charity fundraiser in the Portland area; it was a dinner to raise money for Martha's Pantry (a foodbank for HIV people). With the help of another friend that she frequently had breakfast with, she sponsored her own fundraiser. Shell was charitable beyond belief. She once gave away my kitchenette set (forgetting it was mine), because a newly wed couple needed a table.

She took care of me when I was sick; I took care of her when she was sick. Even when we broke up for 18 months, we knew we could count on each other as friends. In sickness and health we were there for each other. As the saying goes "in sickness and in health till death due us part." It totally sucks to be the one still living, because life is so empty now with out her. I swear I still feel her spirit in my life, but it is not the same as touching her little body. Hearing her say "I love you" several times per day. Having her jump into my arms as I got home. Having her tap me three times for a kiss.

Her family has chosen to not talk about her cause of death, but instead to talk about her cause of life. She played a character on a show that millions of people adored. This brought people joy and laughter. She made beautiful clothes that made people feel beautiful. She wrote a book that allowed people to go to Goodwill and get a somewhat plain outfit and then bling it up to a very fashionable design by spending a few more dollars at a craft shop. In her final years, she helped many HIV people get the food and resources they needed to continue life on little or no money.

At her funeral, I was blessed to hear many many stories on how she touched other people's lives. I was also touched how highly she talked about me behind my back. I pray that in her passing we can continue her legacy of helping others. I have set up a yahoo chat group to talk more about Shell, and NOT hog the guest book. A person can join by emailing me at shells.andrew@comcast.net or by emailing shellkepler-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Shell,

This is for you gorgeous, I have watched General Hospital since I was five with my grandparents; when I worked outside the home I listened to it on a TV radio at my desk...I always enjoyed your spark and even saw that in your "real" character...and that is what I remember about YOU...Your character, your sense of making things brighter for not only your family, but for a lot of people...for that I am sure that GOD needs you right now, probably to make things brighter there, in Heaven.

I am praying for your family and friends to be able to feel your presence working here still, but only in a different way. I am sure you are working behind the scenes, learning and loving your spiritual life in every sense of the word. My brother in-law, Chuck, died on January 29th, I noticed Andrew stated that he had never experienced death so close, neither had I. My brother in-law had cancer and it was painful for years, my dad died of a sudden heart attack almost eight years ago and I still feel that the suddenness has left a hole in my heart with so much unsaid.

I am a mom of nine children, and two grandchildren, I am 43. I am honored to have known your spirit all these years lovely lady. God Blesses You now more than EVER!!!
March 10, 2008
I Loved watching Shell on General Hospital. Shell will be truly missed & never forgotten by many people. Shell is now an angel resting in Heaven.
March 05, 2008
Andrew, thank you for this photo and for your soulful words. As you see, many of us are so very heartbroken. For those of us who spent so many years watching Shell, it's easy to feel like she was a friend, even though most of us didn't know her personally. Can you share some details of Shell's life after she left GH? What brought her to Portland? Was she sick for a long time? Did she remain close to her GH colleagues? Apologies if this is too personal ... just thinking how nice it would be to know how Shell's full life continued after we stopped seeing her each day.
March 05, 2008
I have watched GH sence i was about a 8yrs old. my Nana got me into watching the soaps,I would lay on the floor and watch GH. I to this day still watch GH and was totally shocked when i see the tribute to shell. R.I.P. SHELL./AMY VINING

March 04, 2008
Shell, we still miss our "lacy afternoon" leader. Your clothes have been selling on Ebay for years. I will never sell my Shell clothes. I had no idea she was so sick. Shell was luck to have her brother with her and his good friend. This must be a very loving family. Thank you for being here for I spoke to you several times on HSN. You are a good soul and I wish your fans knew we just wanted to support and help you

I loved watching her on GH! You always knew something was up when you saw her. I also saw her on HSN for a short stint. I was shocked to see an episode in her tribute. A true Loss!!!!
March 01, 2008
Shell! My love! One month ago today, you passed away in your brother's and my arms at the hospital. I still miss you as much, if not more, than the day that you passed. I rarely have a night that I don’t cry out for you. I have not had anyone this close pass away in my arms before; I am still in shock to this day.

Huge thanks to the Kepler's for taking me into your family as one of your own. Thanks to my family for looking out for Fred and I. Shell, our families are amazing. I am so lucky you took me into your life.

I also want to say a huge thank you to the many fans and friends of Shell who have been leaving messages of love and support for Shell and her family. We are reading the messages, but with the millions of messages there is no way to respond.

tap, tap, tap (I want a kiss)
with all my love
Andrew

I have been a fan of GH since the beginning, and I remember Michelle being on the show. It was lots of fun to watch and listen to. The only thing I always thought was they should have found her a steady boyfriend and given her more spots. But what she did over the years for the show was amazing. I will always miss her.
She is at peace and with her maker, and he is taking care of her now.

"God Bless Amy"

I just now found out about this tragic loss, and am shocked and saddened by the news. It is always sad when a celebrity we are fond of dies, but sometimes particularly so. Such is the case here for me. I started watching GH in the late '70s, right about the time "Amy Vining" arrived in Port Charles. I didn't know her age, but I knew right away it was about the same as mine. In fact, watching characters like her, "Laura", and "Scotty" is what got me hooked on the show to begin with! I identified with these characters - and personalities - and for the next 20+ years, "grew up" with them. Now, with the untimely passing of Shell Kepler, I discover that she was actually 3 years younger than I am. She seemed so vibrant and full of life. I am very distraught by this news; it's like losing a dear friend. We even shared a name! RIP

February 14, 2008
I was so deeply saddened to hear of Shell Kepler's passing. I am a long-time "GH" viewer, and recall her years with the show and missed seeing her in recent years. Her years at "GH" were some of the finest that show has seen. I had hoped that Amy Vining would return at some point.

I send my thoughts and prayers to her family and friends at this difficult time.

God has a new angel in heaven.
February 14, 2008
Oh honey, what happened to you? You were taken away much too early. A GH fan since the 70's, you'll always and forever be Amy Vining to me.

February 14, 2008
To the Kepler Family:

I was so heartbroken to hear of Shell's passing. I have been a long-time "General Hospital" viewer, and I have missed her on this show since she left the acting business. Amy Vining was always the best anecdote to a storyline - Shell's comic timing was a highlight.

I remember her days on HSC and her father calling in from Massachusetts to talk to her, their conversations were so sweet while she was on-the-air.

I send my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends at this time. Shell, you will be missed, rest in peace.
February 14, 2008
Shell was gifted, talented and beautiful. My thoughts and prayers to her family.
February 12, 2008
The only soap opera I ever watched was General Hospital. I saw Shell/Amy grow up. She was one of my favorites on GH, simply because she was herself (Amy) and she didn't allow herself to be molded into someone she wasn't. My heart goes out to the family. I have missed Amy om GH and I will miss Shell just as much.
February 11, 2008
She was always a welcome face at General Hospital. She died much too young.
February 11, 2008
The world has lost not only a talented actress, but also a wonderful human being. There must be a heaven, because she must be one of the chief angels! My condolences to her family and friends.
February 11, 2008
I have been a fan of General Hospital since the early 80s and I always loved the character of Amy Vining that Miss Kepler portrayed.

February 10, 2008
To Shell Kepler's Family & Friends, I extend my deepest sympathy on the loss of Shell who was such a wonderful and talented person. I had the good fortune to work with her as a day player "nurse" on "General Hospital." She was always gracious - and very funny as well. I admired her strong acting abilities as well as her amazing skills as an entrepreneur. I pray that the wonderful memories you have of Shell will, over time, bring you comfort and peace. God bless you.
February 10, 2008
What a tragedy. Shell was an original and inspired me with her clothing design ideas and fun fashion sense using thrift and vintage clothing. I loved her sense of style and California casual look. Her book, Make Fashion Magic, joined others in my design studio. She was very talented and I wondered what had happened to her over the years.

Then I was so saddened to see Shell's obituary in the Gloucester Times. Actually my father pointed it out to me. He was always a fan of the show too. She was not only a wonderful actress but also talented and accomplished in so many ways. My sympathy goes out to her family and friends.

This is a story that has never been told:
The real Shell...I remember years ago a fan was watching her on HSN with her Lacy Afternoon product. Several days later the woman wrote Shell a lovely letter telling how she so admire Shell's clothing line and someday when she could afford to buy one of those lovely jackets on HSN this would be the first on her wish list. The lovely woman told Shell how she and her husband had severe illnesses and just could not afford to buy one of the beautiful jackets because she was living on Social Security. The only thing she could only afford was her food, medicine and utilities but she could "wish". Unfortunately the woman and her husband had hit some hard times. Without hesitation Shell said please send this woman two jackets and outfit and give her my deepest regards. The final clincher... she sent the woman money so the couple could enjoy dinner together.
How do I know....I do!!
My sympathy to the family!

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

February 06, 2008
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I can remember when she first appeared on General Hospital many years ago as a young girl. She was most definitly a ray of sunshine and always fun to watch. She had became a part of our family as we sat and watched General Hospital everyday and it's so heartbreaking to hear that she will never return.
It's always tragic to loose someone so young, but know that she is spreading her joy in heaven and is watching over all those who cared for her.
My heart and my prayers go out to Shell's family and to all who knew her as a friend.
God Bless You and may your memories of Shell provide you and your family with comfort!

February 05, 2008
My sympathy to the Kepler family... Shell was such an integral part of GH during its peak - an underappreciated actress & character. Although I haven't watch the show in a couple of years, both Shell & Amy are frequently mentioned and missed on the message boards.

Shell was a very beautiful person and will be missed very much may she rest in peace. I watched her in GH for many years.

REST IN PEACE
February 05, 2008
Shell was always a bright spot on GH for me. I didn't start watching until the mid-90s and when I saw her as Amy, I immediately liked her. I've often thought of her since she left the show. I want to expresses my deepest thoughts to her family and let them know that she will be missed. They are also in my prayers during this time. I hope they can heal a little in knowing that she was loved by many. Heaven just gained another angel.
February 05, 2008
Very sad that you are gone. I remember watching you as Amy Vining on General Hospital during summer vacation in the 80's. Amy was a very multi-faceted character - one minute you wanted to yell at her because of her gossiping ways (I recall Nurse Jesse Brewer taking her to task a time or two!), the next minute you loved her and wanted to give her a big hug because of her sweetness. A shame that both you and Amy are no longer gracing us with your presence.

Rest in peace....

February 05, 2008
Amy as I know her was really great at being Amy, if I can say that. When I was just a girl about 10 years old my Aunt got me hooked on GH and Amy was the successful youth character I could relate too. I am now 36 and I lost my Aunt 2 years ago and seeing that Shell has passed only makes me sad again. My prayers go out to her family during this very difficult time. My Aunt will be waiting to show Amy the ropes she was very close to the lord and talks a mile a minute so I know he got heads up.

Deepest Condolonces to Shell's family. I was a fan of hers on GH for years. R.I.P Shell.
February 05, 2008
Although I never met Shell, I feel like I've just lost a friend. I became acquainted with her when she first started selling her fabulous Lacy Afternoons clothing collection on HSN. Her clothes were right up my alley - very frilly, feminine, victorian and just plain wonderful! I'm not good on dates but know this has to go back to 1994-95ish? After she left HSN I followed her to QVC. Since then I've occassionally purchased items on eBay. I still wear her clothes on a regular basis and get many compliments.

Mr. Kepler - I distinctly remember one day watching her on HSN. You phoned in on the customer call-in line while she was on air and she just lit up and said "Hi Daddy!". I even remember the outfit being offered at that moment because I bought it and it remains one of my favorites.

I also have an autographed copy of her book, Fashion Magic, and I have gussied up some plain items with Shell's help!

To her Father, Mother, and Brother - I pray God's blessing and comfort to you during this difficult time. Job 23:20 reads "He knoweth the way that I take". May He constantly guide and keep you is my prayer.
February 05, 2008
I'm so very sorry for your loss. She was way too young to leave us. She will always be remembered. I used to cringe watching her as Amy gossiping about everything. Regardless of the cringing, her character kept drawing me in for more and more! Shell was an excellent actress and a wonderful person. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!

Along with many others, I am so sad to hear the news about the untimely death of Ms. Shell Kepler. Her portrayal of Amy Vining was wonderful - and she will always be remembered fondly as a terrific actress and artist. With deepest sympathies to her family.
February 04, 2008
This is so sad. I watched Shell for
so many years on General Hospital. Then, She was on the Home Shopping
Network for quite some time with her
clothing line -- also, went to QVC
and Value Vision. She had many talents. I'm puzzled as to why there is no mention of her passing in the LA times obits or NY Times obits. I've been searching to find out more info. I didn't even know Shell was ill and wonder if she was on the list for a kidney transplant.
As I said, this is just so terribly sad -- a terrible loss for her family, friends, and fans.
