Sorry, Soup, just getting to this :
but what's five years in eternity between Friends ?

RidiculouSurrealist : GOD BLESS !

I'll be back w/ a poem :
Hope Billy Collins writes one, too -- if he already hasn't !

X0X0X0

P.S. I've just had a revelation :

You were born in Franklinton, North Carolina, but died in The Bronx.
I was born in The Bronx.
Perhaps I shall, or, at least, shall want to give up the ghost in Franklinton.

In other words,
Soupy died were I was born,
I wish to die where he was born …

This makes good sense, does it not ?

I mustravel down there to reconnoiter !

Soupy sales, I always tell the story and will always remember fondly at the tender age of 11, the kiss on the cheek as you tucked me and my best friend in for the night when you were in Traverse City Michigan probably doing something at the Cherry County Playhouse. You were visiting my friends mom and I we were having a sleep over. You were so sweet and so kind and just nice. I don't think I had ever see a man in yellow pants before! :) I remember you. You were an iconic part of my childhood Soupy along with wax lips, those little wax soda bottles containing the colored sugary drinks, and space missions to the moon. Thanks for making us laugh and smile, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Hope to see you in the future for some more laughs.

Gee, Soupy really made me laugh, both when I was a kid, and then as a grown up. I loved it when he'd yell "HEY, POOKIE"! What a great show! Thanks, Soupy...meg

During the height of the Vietnam War I was passing through the L.A. Airport dressed in my Marine Corps uniform. Going by in the opposite direction, I saw Soupy Sales. When he saw me he started smiling and waving. I was deeply moved. It meant a lot. I have never forgotten his show of support. Christy W. I had been a Soupy fan since I was a kid. I belonged to his fan club. I still have all my Soupy stuff along with pictures he had autographed for me, as I had the pleasure of seeing him several times in person, not only as a child, but also in my adult years. He was not only the funniest person, but one of the nicest as well you would ever want to meet. He always took the time to spend with his fans. I am truly honored to say that I was one of them. I was very saddened by his passing. I will truly miss him, but I'm glad I had the chance to know him. Rest in Peace my friend. Linda Krupinski (Citrus Springs, Fl.)

I grew up with Soupy, I am so sorry he is gone, I just found out today. I loved white fang, and his good days too. He was a great funny man.

Saddened as much by realization of my own mortality as Soupy's passing, I opened the paper to read his obituary and found on the same page an editorial cartoon: The Grim Reaper walks into Soupy's dressing room only to be met with a Soupy pie in the face and that silly grin. Thanks Soupy now I will laugh until, and through, the end.

For Soupy...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...

I grew up in Toledo, Ohio as a kid and
watched Soupy Sales in the late 50's and 60's on TV (like thousands of us).
He was a part of my life and gave me laughs and happiness after a long day of sitting at a desk and learning in school. His comedy, White Fang, Black Tooth and guests on the show were a real treat and fantastic entertainment.
I'll keep and cherish the fond memories
of this great man, and retain a place for him in my heart ... "R.I.P. Soupy".

soupy sales- you are such a good entertainer a perfect comedian even though I'm not familiar to you but when I have read your bibliography I was amaze and I really idolized you I really appreciate the way you give smile and happiness to everyone... My family and my relative here in the Philippines will pray for you
December 05, 2009
Soupy, May you rest in peace forever. Thank you for all the laughter, joy and comic mayhem you gave all of us back then. I agree with I Gindi from Hollywood, Fla., your passing did take the last piece of our childhood away. I also will remember you in my prayers, as well. I know Frank and Clyde are up there with you too... bringing those wonderful puppets to life again. I enjoyed Frank's take on Pookie and how he used to call to you, "Hey,Boobie"! You and Pookie were the best pairing of a comedy team on the show in the 60's. I will miss Pookie's jokes, as well as his singing and dancing, too. Most importantly, I (we) will miss you, Soupy!! I'm glad 'Youtube' is here to help keep your memory alive and well for us all. Till we all see you again, Adios Amigos!!

The best thing Channel 5 & WNBC Radio ever had in NYC. Soupy sent me an autographed postcard years ago...I think pies are flyin' around in heaven since he's now there!

Soupy, You were the greatest! A "Pie"-oneer among pioneers in the field of TV entertainment. Thank you for all of the magic, the laughter and the fun. I know you are slaying them up there with your humor. Watch out for those ladies behind the door(s). They'll surprise you everytime. I, myself, hope that when I arrive 'Up There', it will be just like 1965 again and you will be on TV entertaining us all over again with your jokes, the pies and teaching us how to DO "The Mouse'. I hope White Fang, Pookie and the rest are there with you, also. I, along with the rest of your adoring fans want to send you this loving send-off. My late Father was in an elementary school play in Franklinton, NC with "Soupy" (my dad always referred to him as Milton) when they both were about 6 years old. The play was "Peter Cottontail", and of course, Soupy had the title role even back then. Thanks for all the great laughs and memories. May they both rest in peace.

November 18, 2009
Soupy Sales was my celebrity partner when I was on "The $10,000 Pyramid." I remember how kind and gracious he was and how he wanted to win as much as I did. He gave me such good advice that day and calmed me down. He was a very genuine and real man, not some hot shot celebrity. I did not win the big prize that day, but I felt that I had made a friend. I think he was more disappointed than I when I didn't take home the 10 Grand. I will always remember our time together, though very brief, as something very special. Rest in peace, Mr. Sales. You made us laugh on TV every time you appeared. He surely was one of a kind!

November 18, 2009
Soupy Sales was one of the funniest men alive. His offbeat humor tickled my funnybone to no end. No sports for me after school - I would race home to catch his show. The puns were outrageous, the "man at the door" skits hilarious, and the puppets unforgettable - Pookie doing hits in the voice of popular singers was the highlight for me. Rest in peace Soupy. You uplifted a kid when he needed it most.

I grew up watching Soupy's show on TV. Even as a child, he made me laugh. He will be missed. My condolences to his family, and know one day we will be with all our loved ones we have lost. R.I.P., Soupy.
November 16, 2009
I had the rare pleasure and honor of meeting Soupy at a memorabilia show near Chicago several years ago. Even though his health was not the best, he could not have been nicer. He signed a copy of his book, that I happened to have purchased elsewhere and it will be treasured, along with the many memories of watching his show as a child. He represented the child in all of us in making our days as much fun as possible. Heaven has become an even happier place with Soupy's arrival.
November 15, 2009
Sorry to hear the bad news. Was a great comedian that will be missed.
November 15, 2009
My heartfelt condolences to his wife, Trudy, and his sons, Tony and Hunt. Soupy, may you rest in peace, my brother, and know that you have brought many, many hours or joy and laughter to countless people, young and old. What a legacy to leave. You sir, are a true star, Soupy. We all love you and will miss you terribly!!
November 15, 2009
My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Trudy and his sons, Tony and Hunt. His autobiography, "Soupy Sez", was a Great read. Soupy was a One-in-a-Billion human being. Such compassion for his fellow-man and passion for his art. To all who were fortunate enough to meet and know him, I envy you. I only wish I had the chance to, myself. He was loved, adored and idolized by many. Our hero, forever! Soupy, may you rest in peace. We Love You!!

For Soupy...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain ... on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers' arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night, and, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments, and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled in the arms of God. I walk with the angels and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you: I am peace, love. I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumn's leaf that floats in the garden of God. And I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me,
For I shall never die,
As long as you remember me ...
With a smile and a sigh.

white Fang and Black tooth...rip soupy...you were one in a million..
November 15, 2009
My first recollection of Soupy Sales was from my father who went to High School with Mr Sales in Huntington WV. He was very proud of his knowing Milton Supman. I got to meet Mr Sales at a comedy club in Charlotte NC many years later and got to speak with him about my father after the show,he graciously made a note on a program and signed it for my father. My father died several years ago, I have that program now.

Many years later I took some students to a quiz show in NY. where he was on a panel and I sent a
note to him and at break he ran up to our group. Kids were as thrilled as I was.

I went to nursing school in Manhattan and would frequently see Soupy walking in the neighborhood. As on TV, he was always smiling and loved when we'd call out to him. He was a lovely man, and I remember his wonderful spirit.

it took me 3 days, but, i finally read EVERY entry in the guest book. i put an entry in on 11/7 honoring soupy, and, now, i'd like to offer my condolences to trudy sales & family. i can feel your pain, for, my father just passed away recently. but, please feel PROUD that you shared your husband with millions of people who adored & loved him. a real class act, and, so many wish that his clean comedy would come back to tv & teach the younger generation better morales. your husband was definitely a pioneer of true comedy. always feel PROUD that soupy influenced so many children & they grew up with soupy's sense of humor & respect for people. so you see, we all lost, but, heaven gained. and, i'm sure, the guest book will only get bigger as time goes by & people figure out on how to get to sign it. god bless you & your family, and, let's always remember soupy the #1 comedian of all time (and, he was)!! i'd like to thank the people who referenced the soupy show on 'youtube' & 'www.dfdtv.com'. i'm gonna try it & hope it works. take care mrs. sales & if there's anything i can do to help in your time of need, just let me know. jccasino1@yahoo.com

November 10, 2009
I still use many of the quotes I learned from Soupy. I teach at an elementary school in the St. Louis Public School system. I have my students laughing hysterically when I remind them, "Always walk with the light....if you can tear it out of the sidewalk." or "Don't bite your nails, especially if you're a carpenter." Thanks Soupy! Keren Allen (St. Louis, Missouri)

November 09, 2009
I loved Soupy and his wonderful show. I had a Soupy Sales lunchbox and a Soupy Sales looseleaf binder. The nuns at St. James the Apostle School in Carmel, NY, didn't think Soupy was funny, but I sure did. I especially loved doing "The Mouse" with him. We miss you, Soupy!

November 07, 2009
I will always remember my Soupy Sales coloring book! The first page read, "Mark my words and mark them well...with crayon!" As an adult I finally understood the dry humor inside the silliness. Rest in peace Soupy. My condolences to the family.
November 07, 2009
My wish is for you to find comfort and hope in the words that Jesus spoke : “I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me even though he dies, will come to life.” (John 11: 25, 33, 43.)
November 07, 2009
the soupman--what an original! i started laughin' as soon as his show started--before he even said anything. i loved him like my best friend. it was funny when he got the sports scores from his radio. no teams mentioned, just the numeric scores. i especially enjoyed the 'words of wisdom for the day' (it had some adult content sometimes). and i could never forget the knocks on the door. i think it was soupy's birthday and the staff pulled a good one on soupy. when he opened the door, there was a stripper on the other side doin' her thing. soupy's eyes rolled, his jaw dropped & he was speechless. of all the comedy shows on tv, no show could top soupy's. i wish that they would syndicate the show so i could enjoy the huge laughs that i had in the 60's. god bless you soupy, and now, make god laugh to help mellow out this world. i will always remember & love you.
November 07, 2009
I wish i could have met you in person and to tell you how much we loved you you will be missed. My sympathy to the family and all your close pals. R.I.P.

November 7, 2009

Soupy could make us laugh until it hurt with his comedy and pranks. I remember as a child of the 60's that was when family oriented tv was on not the stuff that they show now. It was clean comedy not obsence comedy like they have now and Soupy will be missed by all of us that grew up during that time. My prayers and thoughts are with your family during this time but as my sister told me prior to her passing do not cry just remember the good times that we had in our life. God Bless all of your family.
November 07, 2009
Soupy was the best. I was so happy to have met him when he was doing "What's My Line?"

November 06, 2009
I was a very little girl in the early 50's when tv programming was broadcast out of Cincinnati (I think) and I had lunch with Soupy...a samwich and a sevem-up! Later, when he came to WNEW in NY, as a young adult, I went to his show and sat in the studio audience to watch his brilliant, zany antics at the back door with Pook, White Fang and Black Tooth. He always seemed to be having more fun doing the show than we were watching it. Rest in peace, Soups. There was never anybody like you...you were an original!
November 06, 2009
I was 7 years old when you came on TV in the 60s'and I will missed you and the pies in your face too.

November 06, 2009
My sister and I couldn't wait to watch your show back in Huntington, WV. We laughed so hard, especially when you did "the Mouse". Then we both would run around doing "the Mouse" all day! I have thought about those great times for years. Thank you for all the memories.
November 05, 2009

I grew up with Soupy. I lived in Detroit when we watched his show. We had many laughs with him. We moved from Detroit to Griffith, Indiana in 1954. I was in 7th grade. If I remember right we did not see him for a while.
Then we saw him on TV again. I now live in Schererville, IN and remember the good times with Soupy. Such a great man that made children and adults laugh. Bless you family.
November 04, 2009
I also grew with Soupy Sales. What a funny man. He had two dogs on the show, Black foot and White fang. I watched him ever day after school. Soupy you will always be in my heart. Because you where a big part of my young life. God bless you and your family. Thank you for funny times.
November 04, 2009
I remember Soupy well along with Black Fang and White Tooth. I got the "Soupy Shuffle' down quite well (a dance move.) My brother would take the T.V. knob off and hide it so we got to see him a lot. Soupy is sheepishly smiling even now, I bet. Windsor, Ontario fan, Mary Pat DeWitt

Farewell Soupy!
November 04, 2009
my mother enjoyed your humor. i remember her watching and laughing! our sincere condolences to all of you family for your loss. the promise "death will be swallowed up forever" is certainly a comfort for all.
November 04, 2009
I am just a bit too young to remember when Soupy had his show for children, but I have heard the stories. Who else would have thought up that "collection of presidential portraits?" At the time, it was a scandal, but now it's a classic!
I used to see Soupy on game shows and talk shows in the 1960s and 1970. His wit was sharp, and if the host wasn't carefully, Soupy often left him or her several steps behind, bemused and flustered.
If you believe in an afterlife, then you can be sure Soupy's quick wit and physical antics have already found an audience. Listen very carefully on some quiet night and you will hear the laughter.

I offer my condolences to his wife and sons. Please take comfort in the knowledge that he made so many of us very, very happy.
November 04, 2009
he was a great comedian. and you could tell by some of his comments he was a wonderful man also. i recently lost my mom to alzheimers and i am still feeling lost without her (as are the rest of the family). my sincere condolences to all of you. put your faith in the Lord that he is in a better place. linda o (northwood Oh)

I remember watching Soupy when I was very young. I always thought it would be so cold getting hit by those pies. But I never left the tv. He was so funny. It,s a shame that the children of today have to miss out on all the good tv like we had. My Mom worked and went to school and I stayed alone untill she got home.I was about 9 yrs old or younger. So Soupy was my babysitter. I,m 58 now. But I will always remember you.May you keep them laughing in heaven.

I have a lot of very fond memories of Soupy Sales and will always remembered all the laughs he provided to everyone. I loved "White Fang" and "Black Tooth" and remember a song he sang, I think it was called something like the "Hillybilly Ding-dong choo choo". I know, but just things like that, his infectous smile, and when he would open the back door and you never knew what made him laugh. So sorry, but I did not hear of his death until about five minutes ago. Sorry this is coming to the family so so late. Peace to his family.
November 03, 2009
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM. IN THE 50 THERE WERE AT BEST 3 T.V. CHANNELS. I WOULD MONKEY WITH THE ANTENNA AND FINE TUNING FOR 10 OR 15 MINUETS TO CATCH A SHADOWY FUZZY IMAGE OF A GIANT CLAW COMING OUT OF A DOOR OR A PIE IN THE FACE. ANDI WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER, "BE TRUE TO YOUR TEETH AND THEY WON'T BE FALSE TO YOU." WITH DEEPEST RESPECTS, A. PISMO CLAM HOLDEN BEACH USA.

My deepest thoughts go out to the Supman family. Soupy's brother used to have a dentist office downtown Kingsport; my mother's dentist, Dr. Supman.
I will always remember his show and one line sticks out particular. He was using a broom in a sketch and he held up the bristles and said, "We sweep together, just you and me." I still think it is very funny.

I grew up in Michigan and as a little girl looked forward to eating lunch with Soupy. I remember he posted the day's lunch menu on a chalkboard. I used to beg my mother to make me the same lunch, so I could eat with Soupy. Lunch wasn't lunch if I didn't have exactly what he had.

Gone are the days of those episodes where you didnt have to cringe when your children watched television with you, gone are the days of innocence. Thanks soupy for taking the lead in demonstrating true entertainment thanks for allowing us a generation of people who could laugh out loud. You will be missed. Here is a promise that will stand and be fulfilled.
“The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life.”—John 5:28, 29.

November 02, 2009
I am so saddened by Soupy's death. As a child growing up in NYC I was an ardent fan of the show. My dad always watched with me as The Soupy Sales Show appealed to kids and grownups.
I remember making a sign that said: I love Soupy Sales". I was 9 years old and my dad let me hang it on the outside of our apartment door for a week! I wanted all the world to know what a fan of Soupy Sales I was.
May he rest in peace.

May you find strength in the many memories you have of him and knowing that he has touched many hearts. Dear Supman Family,

I would like to send my deepest condolences to your family. As a young person Mr. Sales could brighten up my dreariest day. His humor and friendly ways will be missed by his audiences world wide.
May you and your family find comfort in words recorded at Revelation 21:3,4 “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
Look forward to the time when Psalms 37:10,11 will bring sheer joy to you and others worldwide.

I've been a fan since the early sixties. In the mid sixties, I saw Soupy Sales perform "The Mouse" at the Paramount, here in NYC.....along with Shirley Ellis and the Hollies, and I believe Little Anthony and The Imperials. A number of months later, my father spotted Soupy walking in the streets during a cab strike. My father gave him a lift. Soupy invited my whole family to the studio for his show. He came out back later and greeted us very cordially.....nice , friendly gentlemen.........It was my father who now alerted me of Mr. Sales' passing.........May he rest in peace...a true innovator! A TV pioneer! Marc Rand [Long Island, NY]

October 30, 2009
Loved him, he was so honest in his comedy. I would laugh so hard and look forward to his show. His show is something that I have great memories of ...and still smile when I think of them. He was like the class clown and he gave us all a gift for that half hour. I will get the dvd's and laugh just as I did as a kid. Heaven must be in stiches, I know he has a generation of happy souls who remember him.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Growing up, we were always poor. My Father wasn't that aducated, my Mother was crippled,& we had a large family. We had many depressing days & not much to look forward to.[With the exception of Soupy Sales, of course!] He made us ALL laugh & reminded us DAILY, not to take life too seriously & at least have a good laugh whenever possible. My husband grew up in Tn. & I have always been a yankee, yet , he saw Soupy's show a few times, growing up & loved it as much as I did. Thanks for the memories! He has passed on to a place that he is more than deserving of! Rest in peace, Soupy.

In the late '60's I was in New York City with 2 girlfriends. We were having lunch at the Stage Deli on 7th Ave. Soupy walked in alone looking for a table. We were so excited to see him "Soupy"! we yelled. He came right over to talk and proceeded to sit with us for lunch. It was like talking with an old friend. What a treat! What a great memory. My sympathy to Soupy's family.

I was saddened by the news. I just found out about Mr. Sales. As a child, I watched "The Soupy Sales Show" whenever it was on. I Loved watching him; when I was older I still watched and the subtle humor that came through for adults was just as entertaining as what he did for the kids. He will be missed by many because he was loved by many...

I loved Soupy Sales and his slapstick comedy, the famous knock on the door and especially the characters White Fang and Black Tooth. I am 60 years old and my grandkids and I share a secret language....the one spoken by Fang and Black tooth. Although they have never seen the show, those characters will live on in their minds and Soupy will live on in my heart. God Bless you!

I have always loved Soup! What a funny man. Our thoughts & prayers are with his family. I feel like he was a part of mine.
October 29, 2009
Our loss, Heaven's gain...... He made me laugh so many times.
October 29, 2009
What a funny man! I always felt as if I knew him although we never met. We felt as if he was family. My grandfather, Malan (Pop), it is said, helped Soupy get his first sales job selling soup. My cousin, Butch, also named Malan, always wanted to go next door to Sadie's house, because she would give him cookies and treats and he never did anything wrong in her eyes. Soupy's gift of bringing others to laughter was a God-given talent, which those of us who were lucky enough to be influenced by it, will never forget.
October 29, 2009
Such a big loss to the comedy world. I watched him every day after school. I loved his antics especially when someone knocked on the door. Loved it when he got a pie in the face. He will be sorely missed. Bring on the reruns....today's comedians just aren't funny.
October 29, 2009
I lived for his show. I would rush home after school and tune in to his show just to relax and laugh. thank you for the wonderful memories. My biggest thrill came when I got to go to the Christmas Parade in Hollywood and when I called out your name, you looked in my direction.

All our love and sympathy to Soupy's family and friends. We were all friends and a very large extended family because of Soupy.
My brothers, sisters, and I grew up watching Soupy's show and how we loved him. I bought the cd "blaa-oh blaa-oh, blaa-oh" a few years ago for my Dad. My sister and I are renovating my grandmother's farmhouse and we started listening to it before his passing. We danced and sang along like a couple of fools and yes we still remembered the words to every song.
I would love it if dvd's of his shows would be released at a reasonable price so we can always enjoy watching the crew in action.
He will ALWAYS be a part of our lives!

It was one of those shows back in 'the day' that you cherish. How I wish we had something and someone like Soupy today for our kids today...it was just good funny slapstick. I met Soupy 10 years ago at the Doo Dah parade in Ocean City, NJ and was so honored that would think I just met the President of the United States. So, Thanks Soupy for all the memories and for being the talent you are...I hope you had fun as we all did!

October 27, 2009
My deepest sympathies to Soupy Sales' family. We still use some of his one-liners (If you lose your house key how you Gunga Din?), jokes, or characters (e.g., White Fang & Black Tooth). We would rush home from school to watch the Soupy Sales Show & was sadly disappointed if we missed even one of them.
Thank you, Soupy, for all of the fun and laughter you brought to me and all of your fans. I think they'll be happy to welcome a Pie-in-the-Face Master up there in heaven!!
October 27, 2009
I just watched a wonderful tribute to Soupy on the www.DFDTV.com site that brought back many of the great moments of Soupy's shows (and my childhood) ...all those pies in the face, his black turtleneck and bow tie and of course, his suggestion that we empty out our parent's wallets. To the family of Soupy Sales,

Many times laughter fills our hearts, than sad times arise and that laughter is covered by sorrow, but it warms our heart to know that God and provide us the strength to deal with the sadness.

"This is my comfort in my affliction, for your own saying has preserved me alive. I have remembered your judicial decisions from time indefinite, O Jehovah, and I find comfort for myself. May your loving-kindness serve, please, to comfort me, according to your saying to your servant."—Psalm 119:50, 52, 76.
October 27, 2009
If you did not see his shows then you missed something that cannot be dublicated today. No fancy props or computer gimmics, just hard hitting belly laughs and hidden adult humor. He did it spontaniously with the help of his crew but you could see the real laughter in his face and even if a child did not understand the gag you laugh anyway. What a talent! Rest now you earned it.
October 27, 2009
". . . .never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee." When someone dear to a generation like Soupy dies, we all die a little. The moment sends us back to our youth, to a softer and more gentle time, when we laughed with abandon at his sweet tomfoolery. His mortality is our mortality. We miss him so much . . . as we miss the days when our hair was blond and we had no cares. Goodbye sweet Soupy.
October 27, 2009
Soupy, may your roads now be filled with the laughter and promise that you delivered to so many Americans. You truly are an idol and will be missed. My deepest sympathies to your family, and may they find comfort in knowing how many lives you touched

We've lost another great icon of the 60's. May he and White Fang, Black Tooth & Pookie rest in peace.
October 27, 2009
Used to watch him at noon on WXYZ and then later on his nightime show with the Hal Gordon orchestra. Both shows were free form and very funny. I recall one recurring skit on the evening show involving a "Mississippi Gambler" situation in which at some point Soupy would utter the catch phrase "Jefferson, I believe your cheating me!" followed up by the cast breaking into laughter. Dear Soupy,

You were one of my favorite childhood friends and gave me many laughs through the years. I will always remember your unique sense of humor. God bless you!
October 27, 2009
I won a contest in New York which resulted in receiving a battery powered (ride in) fire engine and an appearance on the Sandy Becker show and the the Soupy Sales show which followed. The contest was to name the fire engine in order to win it. My mother submitted the entry "Holy Smoke". I was 8 years old and in driving the car knocked down several studio lights. Remember everything was live then. I recall Soupy encouraging me to take out a few more. He was a lot of fun.
October 27, 2009
Thank you Soupy for all the laughs you gave me while I was growing up. You are the best, hopfully I will get a chance to see you again as you make them all laugh up there. God take care of him as he will make you laugh. A fan

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

No matter when a loved one leaves they are gone too soon.

Death separates family members, such great loss can result in deep sorrow. Complete reliance on “the God of all comfort” will help us to endure bereavement.

What a blessing it will be when we can rightly ask: “Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?”—1 Corinthians 15:55.

Yes, soon there will be a time when death will be no more.

I was privileged to meet Soupy at a fund-raiser for a radio personality who needed a heart transplant many years ago. He autographed his book for me. Early in my ministerial career I wrote a "fan letter" and got a hand-written reply: "I'll bet your sermons are great ... look who your writers are!" A very special guy -- will be missed terribly. My prayers for healing at this time.
October 27, 2009
He was a very funny comedian. And it's obvious that he was loved by all. We can certainly draw comfort from knowing that very soon according to Isaiah 25:8 that "God will actually swallow up death forever." How we yearn for that day to come!

Some of our U.S. troops at the Okinawa landing had their tensions relieved, I am sure, while Soupy Sales and White Fang and their outrageous jokes were available on the 7th Fleet's flagship, probably a lot more important than my lunchtime entertainment on TV when I was a small boy. But at the time, I thought my lunchtime TV entertainment was pretty important, too.
Thanks.

I loved the guy. Irrepressible mirth.
In my high school, there was a bit of a cult following. A goofy, lovable guy. He wants appeared at a small club near where I lived on Long Island I was sitting up front and he recruited me for a musical number in which I provided more humor! Afterwards, he was very nice to stop by and make sure I was ok.
On his shows I also enjoyed the cast of characters and Soupy's usual takes.
Fun to watch him on youtube. I am still laughing
October 26, 2009

Out of nowhere last week I started thinking about Soupy and was wondering how he was doing. I whispered a prayer for him, knowing that God knows Soupy, even though I don't... I asked God to take care of Soupy and his family. So today, I was shocked to see he had passed. May you know in your hearts that God was watching over him and may it give you peace, that perhaps God was showing him mercy...

You will be in my prayers. May you find comfort knowing that Soupy was loved and brought joy to many. We'll cherish the memories...

When I was in 7th and 8th grade, my dad and I used to rush home to watch The Soupy Sales Show. We never knew what we would see when he came on the air.

October 26, 2009
I wish we saw more of Soupy before he passed away so we could all tell him how much he meant to us. Let this be said for all the remaining children's performers still alive reading this. You pass from our lives without the proper gratitude for taking care of us, sometimes when our parents couldn't. You watched us grow from afar then were removed from our lives, cast into the shadows as a fond memory or a buried trinket. We grieved your loss then; we grieve it now with a twinkle in our eye remembering the joy you once brought to our lives. We love you all. Godspeed, soupy
October 26, 2009
I hope I have their names correct, but White Fang and Black Tooth are two of my favorite characters "played" by Soupy. As I recall, they didn't speak; they just mumbled "la-ah, la-ah" or "lu-uh" as their paws dangled above his shoulders. I don't think the rest of their bodies were visible, including their heads. But their "work" with Soupy made me laugh a lot. Have missed them for many, many years, White Fang, Black Tooth, AND Soupy Sales!

I remember your show when I was growing up. Thanks for the memories and rest in peace my friend.
October 26, 2009
Our prayers go out to Soupy's family. Very sorry to hear of the passing of another GREAT legend.
I was a very big fan of Soupy, running home from school at lunchtime and having my lunch with him. My interpretation of 'White Fang' and my 'Soupy Shuffle', I thought, were pretty good too.
I actually had 'lunch' with Soupy in person at the Penobscot building in Detroit in 1956 (I think). He just happened to be there on a break before Broadcast House was built. I also saw him in person on his late night show in 1961 at Broadcast House. In addition I saw him on two occassions at the Hyatt Supper Club in Dearborn. I talked briefly with him after one show and never met a nicer man.
October 26, 2009
I remember when I was growing up in the sixties, watching a gameshow (What's My Line I think) with my Grandma and laughing at Soupy's jokes. I'm sorry for your loss.
October 26, 2009
My two sons would stop what they were doing, what when Soupy came on the screen and my wife and I would have to wait for his program went off. Many the times we had to change our plans until he went off the air. Thank you for the many hours of knowing that they would be fighting, or getting into mischeif. God bless you!

I grew up with Soupy, then years later while working as a booking agent out of New York City we shared an office together. Soupy was a kind, as well gentle man who always gave me a laugh in moments of sad times.

We became good friends, and when my girlfriend was killed on the morning of 911. It was Soupy who was one of the first to reach out to me, and offer me his support.
This man will be greatly missed, by this guy who shall always remember his kindness-his love towards people as well his great talent to make people smile in the face of great loses!

He was also on the superhero show on Sci Fi, now known as Sy Fy,

In 2004, I remember having the esteemed honor of meeting him at Dragon Con and to me, it was a sweet victory to see this man, who despite the fact that despite the fact he had some disabilties, he kept going like the Energizer Bunny!

God Bless you Soupy. You brought many smiles to a sick child in the early 70s.
October 26, 2009
I had the pleasure of watching Soupy at noon (luchtime) and eating grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. I lived in Detroit at the time, for sure over 59 years ago. My prayers are for strength and love for the family.

To the Family fo Soupy Sales,

I had many a luch with Soupy Sales on television, when I was a little girl. I loved watching him. May God bestow all of His blessings on your family at this time.
October 26, 2009
I will forever remember Soupy Sales. We immigrated to the USA in 1963 from Baghdad, Iraq and my sister and I had matching Soupy Sales lunch pales that were the source of endless teasing. Not speaking English back in rural Modesto, CA, first grade was a trying time. One day I was ambushed on my way home from school by some bully who ended up breaking the thermos in my lunch pale.
God Bless Soupy Sales.
October 26, 2009
Soupy Sales is a fond childhood memory. He was a good man and will be missed.
October 26, 2009
My brothers and I grew up with Soupy. He was great. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

It's sad to think that the humor of this man is gone forever. No more White Fang and Blacktooth. The visitor at the door ... his show was the best. Kids today just wouldn't understand ... but God will. Bye Soupy.

My condolences to his family. We have lost another great Legend comedian.
October 26, 2009
R.I.P. Soupy....
October 26, 2009
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Soupy. His wit brought many funny moments of entertainment to our family as we gathered around the TV back in the day. He will be missed by so many that he touched over the years.

May you draw comfort and strength from family, friends, and God's word. In it there is a promise that in the future there will come a time when "No Resident Will Say I Am Sick". Until that time arrives, may the God of all comfort be with you during this sad time.

Take Care,

October 26, 2009
Soupy will be so missed. Back in the 50's, we had lunch with Soupy more times than I can remember. To this day, I cannot see Jello without hearing Hawaiian music! My brother and I are both pushing 60 and will still lapse into a Soupy routine, now and then, or converse like White Fang and Blacktooth, and laugh our heads off. Rest in Peace and Joy, Soupy. You certainly earned it!
October 26, 2009
My condolences to all Soupy's family. I'm so sorry for his health problems, particularly for someone who brought so much cheer to people. What a guy! When I was a student at Seton Hall about 45 years ago, Soupy used to come on the late afternoon. I can still remember sitting in the Student Union with other guys watching him and laughing like crazy. When I was home, I watched him there too. Soupy was a true original. Thanks for all the laughs and for White Fang and Black Tooth too! Bwell,Beh,Beh.

First met Soupy 49 years ago; then my sister and I were presidents of his international fan club for years, and he influenced the direction of our lives immeasurably. Such a kind man. So glad I got to see him one more time in 2005 at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. Condolences to Trudy, Tony, Hunt and families. Prayers are with you.

October 26, 2009
May I express my deepest sympathy to Mr Sale's family. I along with so many others in our childhood loved his slapstick humor and enjoyed his entertainment. It was a great privilege to have met him face to face one day about 15 years ago at the Detroit airport. He didn't have anyone guarding him or anything special. He was just an everyday person trying to catch a cab. He signed his autograph for me without hesitation and I will always treasure it. Our world was blessed to have him in it.
October 26, 2009
will miss you soup r.i.p.
October 26, 2009
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
October 26, 2009
The best adult-kids show ever! My band The Broken Bones played on the Chuck McCann Show in NYC WNEW Ch. 5 in 1965. Soupy's show was in the same studio. We stood outside with Soupy and as people and kids went by, Soupy said hello to all of them, picking up kids and kissing them. May God rest your soul. There will never be another!
October 26, 2009
He was one of the best comics. I remember my sister was one of those who went to raid my mothers purse after his kids show about sending that green paper with presidents on it to him. He will be missed.
October 25, 2009
To the Sales family:

Know that during this difficult journey of grief, that you are supported by countless people who appreciate this gifted man. We cannot mourn beside you, but we do mourn with you.

I, personally, am grateful for Mr. Sales' ability to lighten moments; not only for me, but close friends and relatives.

A fan.

"Happy sticks, happy sticks, all your troubles they will fix...all you have to do is smile...with your happy, happy sticks!" I remember that song from his show...50+ years ago. I will also remember him atop a float in the Macy's Day Parade...as we looked on eye level from a hotel along the route. I believe he saw me... a little girl in awe of the man. God bless you and your family, Soupy!
October 25, 2009

I was 15, in 1965, and my friends and I would go to NYC [lived about 45 minutes away], where we would wait outside the studio where Soupy's show was aired. He ALWAYS came out, pose for photos, autographs and was just so friendly. After a while [since we went about 3x a month], the staff would let us in to see the show. It was just on folding chairs, around the two cameras, but exciting..Must have seen about 50 shows over the next three years. He was thoughtful, sweet and made us feel so important. He was a BIG part of my teenage "angst" years and made me into the person I am today..thoughtful and caring. Especially when my parents "did not understand"..but he always did, and gave me the confidence and advice I sorely needed. For that, I am forever grateful. You will be missed, my dear mentor.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

A very sily man who would do anything for a laugh and indeed that is what he did for us all. He took us away from the pressures of everyday life to give us breathing space to recover from the turmoil of it all. He has earned his place in entertainment history.
A fan.
October 25, 2009
Those young ones who are "supposed" to be funny are not. Soupy, along with Red Skelton, Milton Berle and Henny Youngman, WERE funny. They did their jobs as pointing out the insane often tragic things we humans do. We laughed because we could all identify with their interpretations of reality and the blend of humanity that is called life itsownself. I hope and pray that the Almighty who presides over us all needs a good laugh, because like it or not Soupy will put at least a broad smile of approval on his visage.
October 25, 2009
My condolences to the family of Soupy Sales. He was an absolute one of a kind. He's probably up there making Red Skeleton and all the other greats that have passed on laugh and smile a lot. God Bless Soupy, he was a big part of my childhood.
October 25, 2009
When I was about 14 yrs old in Dearborn, MI, we got our first TV. I remember only three programs now, the McCarthy Hearings, The Lone Ranger, and Soupy Sales. I lived across the street from my high school and ran home each day for the hilarious lunch. My mother, a teacher and poet, thought I had lost my mind, but she stood in the doorway to scoff and eventually sat down to hoot with me too. On a trip in 2002 with my wife and son to NYC I recognized Soupy in Birdland, the classic jass restaurant, and couldn't resist thanking him in person. He was great and I was delighted to shake his hand. Soupy was always true to himself and his fans and brought much joy and fun to the world. I will really miss him, but he will live long in all our hearts. My condolences to his wife and sons.

October 25, 2009
Truely one of the last great comics. Soupy made me laff more than any other person on TV when i was growing up.
October 25, 2009
When I look at the comedians from years ago, I realize that the truly gifted ones make the simplest comedy something to guarantee laughter. Soupy had that gift. Day after day, we watched him do his predictable gags and clutched our sides laughing every time! He brought a lot of joy of countless children and adults alike. Thanks, Soupy!
October 25, 2009
I will never forget Soupy...he made so many people's days just a little bit happier with his zany comedy! My mum loved him and we would watch him together when I was a kid. She got the adult references and as a kid I just enjoyed the slapstick. We will all miss you very much soupy...enjoy your pie in the sky!!!
October 25, 2009
Soupy was such a big part of our childhood memories and we were saddend to hear of his death. It doesn't matter how old our love ones are at the time of their death, it is never easy to accept. How grateful we can be to our Heavenly Father for giving us a memory so that we can recall all the wonderful times we had with our loved ones. Continue to think of those times and may it put a smile on your face and bring warmth to your heart. Take each day, one at a time. We would like to leave a scriptural thought with you that has helped us greatly over the past year as we too have experienced two immediate family deaths within 7 months of each other. It is found in the book of John 5:28 where we are reminded that "the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...." We look forward to seeing our loved ones lost in death again and we hope that this will bring you comfort as well. Our condolences to Soupy Sales' family.
October 25, 2009
Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
October 25, 2009
Sorry about your loss Sales'family, however, in the Bible at Revelation 21:4, it states that"God will wipe out every tear from mankind's eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things will pass away." We have to keep the faith and hope for the new earth. With deep sympathy.

My childhood in Detroit would not be complete without eating lunch in front of the television watching Soupy. After all these many years, I and my friends will bring up a "do you remember" and Soupy's name was at the top of the list. Watching his shows on YouTube still make me laugh, maybe more than when I was a kid. God Bless, old friend.

October 25, 2009
I loved Soupy Sales. Sometimes my sister and I would run home from Wayne Elementary school in Detroit to watch him while we ate our lunch of grilled cheese sandwhiches and tomatoe soup. My favorite spot was White Fang and Black Tooth..two hand puppets which looked liked they were made from socks. They would tease Soupy and fight. Sometimes my sister and I would make up our own puppet shows with these characters as stars. Thank you Soupy you made us laugh - what more could two kids from Detroit ask for.
October 25, 2009
Always enjoyed good clead comidy !
October 25, 2009
My wife, myself and our children, now fully grown with children of their own, were very much saddened to hear of your passing, Soupy. We always treasured your fine response letter to us when we wrote you, encouraging you to keep on with your wonderful sense of humor.
They must be ducking all those pies up in heaven right now.

I always found his lefthanded comedic schtick to be the best ever, because it provoked thought and humor in a combination that would have you laughing hours later... He was simply brilliant, and I offer my condolences to all his family and those who knew him.

Thanks Soupy for the great childhood memories we have. The new generation will never have those, because no longer are there people like you in their lives who came to them live on TV everyday.
You are and "orginal". Miss you.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

To The Family:

Although I was a teenager at the time, I had the pleasure of working with Soupy Sales when he came to Savannah and co-hosted many fundraisers with him. He was always polite, pleasant, and a gentleman. He would request my singing clan, the Savannah White Family Singers, to perform on the shows. We are still honored. What a man; he will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to you now and always.

God Bless!

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Such a wonderful comedian, I just loved him as a kid.
Our car passed his once in Toledo, Ohio. He was parked and we were passing by. Obviously he was practicing his funny faces in his rear view mirror. It was such a charge for me to actually see Soupy Sales even though we didn't stop to bother him. I watched his program for years. He was a true comedian, like Bill Cosby, didn't use vulgar language for shock, just his pies in the face. We loved you Soupy and your family for sharing you with us.

October 24, 2009
I was a devout Soupy Sales fan when I was a kid. My brother could do the Soupy Sales shuffle better than anyone I knew. I had the chance to see Soupy in St. Clair Shores, Michigan around 9 years ago. He'll be missed - one of the greatest comedians.
October 24, 2009
As a kid, I was not really into the pie-in-the-face type humor. I think SS was a good man, though, and I offer my sympathy to his family.

Once went to a Blue Oyster Cult concert at Erie County Field House, and a band called Paris opened for them. Someone said Soupy Sales son was in it.......not sure, but it does say the sons are/were in bands. Blessings to the family.......Rest In Peace, MR. Sales.
October 24, 2009
Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow. His legacy of laughter to all of us was the greatest gift of all. He will be greatly missed here but I am sure he is already entertaining in Heaven.

My deepest, heartfelt condolences to Trudy, Tony, Hunt, and to Barbara. I was a devout Soupy fan as a kid (and I also had a big crush on Tony as a pre-adolescent). I was fortunate to have met, and hugged Soupy on two occasions. We were all blessed to have his brand of humor at a time when war was brewing. He gave us comic relief, and his presence will be sorely missed.
October 24, 2009
Thank God for Mr.Soupy, sweet and gentel person/performer we could use more people like him. My God comfort your family at this time.
October 24, 2009
I am so sorry to hear of Soupy's passing and offer my condolences to his family and anyone who loved him. I loved him as a kid in NJ watching him on TV. If I recall this correctly it was his show that had a contest in which if he couldn't draw what you asked him to you would get some prizes. My Dad said to ask him to draw a Sunday, that's right, that spelling. He couldn't and I got a ton of games!!! WOW! Thanks Dad! With extreme luck I met Soupy at the Belly-Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA in the early 90's when he did a show there. I knew the owner and he asked me to take pics of the show which, I think, at first Soupy wouldn't agree to. I had brought a record I owned in the hope Soupy would sign it. Before the show and when he was on stage preparing I asked if he would do so while I was at the foot of the stage. He asked what I wanted him to say and I said please sign it with your real name. At this time I didn't know what his real name was. He said I can't do that and I said Ok, I understand. He asked me my name and I said Milton or Milt. He looked both ways to see who was around and then bent down to me and whispered "Milton". I couldn't believe it! He signed it for me that way and it must be one of the few, if any, things he signed that way. It is a treasured posession but it is packed away. I must find it now! He then agreed to the pics too. The sad thing about this event is that it turned out that there was something amiss with my camera and I got nothing. With digital now that wouldn't have happened. What a sad shame that is. Godspeed Soupy! Rest in peace and pie free my friend. Milton Heger the 3rd (my youngest son is the 4th!)

We live in a world that can at times give us reasons for weeping so it was refreshing to have someone in the entertainment industry who would not stop at any measure to make us laugh.

May God's arms of comfort embrace the Sales family at this time.
October 24, 2009
To the family of Soupy: when me and my sister were growing up in Mount Clemens Michigan we always watched Soupy on tv we tried to never miss his programs.
We also got the oportunity to meet him at the Jefferson Beach Marina Amusement Park where they had the rides and consession stands at that time in the 50's in Saint Clair Shores . My sister Carol & I had made our communion that day and that evening we got to go to the amusement park and there he was too.
He was a funny person and I am sure he was a very careing man.
He will be missed by all that loved him, I am sure, in your family and all that got to meet him.

To the family of Milton Supman (aka Soupy Sales) your husband and dad brought laughter and smiles to those of us who now face world crisis. His companions Whitefang and Blacktooth made hime even more funny, He made forget about my personal problems and made me realize how important it is to laugh, I am truly sorry my grandchild will never get to experience his comedic genius. I hope his G-d has the ability to laugh as much as Soupy made us laugh. R.I.P. Soupy Sales R.I.P.

My deepest sympathies go out to Soupy's family and close friends. I'd like you to know how truly beloved Soupy was and how important he was in our young lives.

I loved to eat lunch with Soupy and I felt like he was my good friend. His laughter and giggles were infectous! Even at that young age, I got his jokes and that most of what he was saying was tongue-in-cheek humor. My favorite thing about Soupy was when he cracked himself up. Watching him try to contain himself and failing miserably absolutely reduced me to a puddle of laughter and tears. What a talent to make little kids laugh until they cry! I even named one of my pets Pookie! Here's to the casts of thousands who knocked on your door, to White Fang and Black Tooth and Pookie - and those thousands of pies.

Leh-o, Leh-o, Soupy! You will never be forgotten!

Back in the 50's, I was a naive, scared youngster who went to KNBC in Los Angles to audition to be their weather man.
Soupy was on the set, saw how nervous I was and gave me a great pep talk. Although I didn't get the job, I'll never forget the pureness of this gesture. Always number one in my book to this day.
October 23, 2009
I once had a wife who met Soupy in the elevator where he lived in NYC. He asked her,"What do you do?"
Her response unknowlingly with whom she was speaking was, "I'm in International Sales" Soupy responded, "that's my brother's name."

Always wanted to share that story....

Smooth saleing Soupy.

I had the privledge of attending a performance by Soupy Sales at the Windmill Dinner Theatre in Houston, Texas in the early 1980's. His opening comment was "I want to thank the Windmill Dinner Theatre for giving me such a beautiful dressing room. But, I don't really need 6 sinks." That was so funny and something I will never forget. I also had a broken leg from snow skiing. Soupy told me "I'll introduce you to my doctor...he will teach you how to limp real good." I'm sending my blessings to his family...

When I was growing up, it was always fun watching you perform on various TV shows and listening to you on the radio. You were the best comedian who always had a clean comedy act (except for the many pies in the face).

RIP Soupy you and your gentle laughter will be sorely missed in the world.

I was a fan club president of Soupy Sales. I met him when he came to the county fair in Del Mar. He was very gracious and friendly to his fans. He faced everything with a smile and never failed to deliver laughs. When so many things in life were serious, we could sit in front of a TV and have a good laugh. We will miss him.

October 23, 2009
I was a kid in the '70s (after Soupy Sales' heyday), but watched him on game shows and talk shows. I'm glad that he was given the credit in later years that he deserved--his interview on NBC's "Later With Bob Costas" was a classic. And I was happy to see his '60s shows released to video in the '90s, in spite of the fact that most were erased. One thing that's probably overlooked is his radio work--hopefully that will get recognition too.

Take care old friend.
October 23, 2009

Soupy was my favorite comedian. My brother and I watched him every chance we got. His casual attitude when you just knew he was going to take one in the face, was absolutely hillarious. We watched him while we ate every day we were at home. I will miss his smile, White Fang and Black Tooth. He was one in a million. Another era gone away. He will be sadly missed.
October 23, 2009
Sympathies to all of Mr. Sale's family and loved ones.
For a kid growing up in the 1950's-60's, he was a genuinely funny and original talent who came along at a time when I could stay up late enough to watch his show. I will always cherish memories of his exchanges with White Fang & Pookie...and the great puns he delivered in his deadpan style just before the pies came flying in. He leaves a wonderful legacy of joy & laughter.
October 23, 2009
Being too young to remember his show, yet I remember the excerpts/flashbacks shown on TV during the late 70's of his antics.

With Soupy and Elvis being born on the SAME DATE, nine years apart, I wonder if that ever came up during his show while EP was doing his movies?

I know he did have a record to make the charts also in the 1960's. I have the only one Soupy recorded for MOTOWN in 1969. I have no idea if the singles received airplay at that time. I remember how prejudiced some stations' formats were through the 70's, 80's, 90's, and some STILL ARE concerning certain performers. Yes his SOUL was SOUPY. Listen to him sing and gather your opinion. He sounds as a mor singer in the way of Sinatra, Bennett, Cole, and early Gaye, no disco or hip hop.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Having grown up in the Detroit area in the 50's, my father worked for Channel 7 back in the early days of television and worked with Soupy on his locally produced show. Through my dad, I had the opportunity to meet Soupy and I count those moments as my most cherished while growing up. He truly was a one of a kind personality. Later in life, when he would come to Detroit and volunteer his time for the Channel 56 (public television) fundraising telethons, I met him again and he was just as warm as he was back then. I grew up in NYC and I will always remember getting in trouble in school (and home) for constantly doing the "White Fang, Black Tooth" dialogues. "ou ah" , "ou ah ou". I still laugh when I catch myself doing it every now and then (flashback I guess) I even taught it to my kids.

I used to sit up close to the TV so I could change the channel really quick in case my mother walked in. She did not approve of his humor. I sure did.

Thank you, Soupy. You were my hero!
October 23, 2009

In 1971, I was a 18-year-old girl fresh out of HS working in Manhattan as a secretary. One day, while crossing Park Ave @ 54th St., I realized I was standing next to Soupy, a man who had brought me hours of pleasure with White Fang & Black Tooth. I said SOUPY! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! while hugging him mightily and being the great guy he was, he took it in stride, hugged me back, and told me he loved me too. Not many celebrities would have handled an up close and personal like that, especially in these days and times. Rest in peace, Soupy, I'm still down here "doin' the Mouse"!!!
October 23, 2009
