Like so many others, I , too, loved the Berenstain Bears books as a child and young adult. I saved all of the books to someday read to my own children when I have a family. One of my favorite stories was The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room, probably because I always had a messy room and would "clean" it by shoving everything into the closet. :)

Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Berenstain, for all of the delightful stories from Bear Country! My thoughts are with your family as you celebrate Stan's life.
May 03, 2006
You will live on forever through your books and the happiness you bring out in children through your wonderful stories.

As tradition dictates, the leader of the group read BEARS ON WHEELS before the ride and everyone cheered for "two bears on one wheel" and booed for "one bear on two wheels". I'm sure they'll still be reading that wonderful book 30 years from now. We all had fun learning to read and count through your books. Thanks, Stan!!!!!

The Berenstain Bears took me to a perfect place of wonder, mystery, and pure imagination as a child. Sometimes I have trouble distinguishing what activities I actually did, and which ones I just felt like I did after reading your books!

Even now, at age 21, I sometimes sit in the children's section at the library, getting funny looks from the kids because I'm hogging all the Berenstain Bears books. I love to relive those stories, for they are truly magical in a way that affected me for life.

After reading Down a Sunny Dirt Road, I felt as if I had just had a long conversation with Stan & Jan. And now, with the passing of Stan, I feel that I've lost a friend and a mentor. Yet, I'm comforted by the reminder that not everyone can boast of such an eventful and creative life such as his.

I want you to know that you have created a world that I can always to escape to, always marvel, and always love. And I can only hope to find someone with whom I can call a partner in every sense of the word, just as Stan & Jan, the ultimate duo.

Love you forever!

* Your lifelong admirer and fan *

Mr.Bearenstain, to me, is among the world's greatest artists.Using simple shapes he and Miss Bearenstain created a world that taught and entertained me.His love and talent gave me inspiration to become an artist.I gave him and his wife a pitch story for a new Bearenstain Bears book. They wrote me back, saying my idea was thoughtful. To have them write back to me was outstanding, but world acclaimed artist/author's saying my idea was thoughtful was like icing on the cake!I have read the Bearenstain Bear books since I was a child, and i'm still a fan of them.
Thank you Miss Bearenstain for you and your husbands stories of learning, living, and loving. He will be missed

Last evening, while channel surfing, I came across the Berenstain Bears,
"The Babysitter". I watched the episode and smiled and smiled. Mrs. Grizzle was one of my son's favourite characters. He is now a university senior. I emailed him this morning to tell him what I had watched last evening. He responded quite cheerily stating, "Mom, that in one of my favourite BB stories." Through the years I have continued to purchase BB books for my son to read to his own children someday. I have written a personal message in each.

I send my sincere sympathy in the loss of your beloved husband and father. Mr. Berenstain was one of those people who truly left the world a better place. Your books have brought immeasurable joy to our family and even though my sons are now teenagers, we still quote from many of the books. We laugh when we remember the look on Mama's face in "The Messy Room" when she opened the bears' bedroom closet and all their belongings fell on her. We also remember from "Tell the Truth" Papa's reaction to the bird supposedly flying through the living room, "Now I'm confused; was it a purple bird with checkered wingtips, or a checkered bird with purple wingtips?" (or something like that). I treasure our vast collection of books. I have just ordered "Down a Sunny Dirt Road" and look forward to reading more about this talented couple. God bless your family for bringing so much joy into the world of children (and their parents).

Firstly, would like to say that I was extremely sad when I heard Stan had passed away.

Thank You for Writing all these Wonderful Stories. These books are timeless. You have made reading fun for both children and adults. I thoroughly enjoy reading the Berenstain Bear books to my preschool classroom. They understand the lessons all the books are trying to teach. Your make it easy to explain things that we as adults find hard to explain .. My goal is try to collect all your books so that I can share with classes and children to come!!!

Thank You,

R.I.P. Stan!!

The girls connect Papa Bear with their silly dad, and they have learned numerous lessons taught by the theme of each book. Mr. Berenstain, you will be missed, and I know that you are somewhere out in Bear Country. For that is where I believe we all would like to end up one day, thanks to you! May God bless you and your family, The Young Family

I will continue to search and collect for my children to enjoy someday. Again, my sincere sympathy for yours as well as all the children at hearts loss.

My first grade class reads and loves all the Berenstain Bear books. Stan will be missed.
January 21, 2006
I was so sad to hear of Mr. Berenstain's passing. My daughter and I love to collect Berenstain Bear books and watch the cartoon. He was a wonderful example to children with his charming characters and great moral lessons that teach children without being too preachy. He will continue to touch children's lives for generations to come. I hope that we can look forward to a Berenstain Bears movie in the future. If Veggie Tales can do it, why not? Children need positive role models.

January 19, 2006
The loss of Stan Berenstain is felt by so many. The Berenstain Bears were my favorite books as a child - and now, 20 years later, I have shared them with my own kids. He had a unique talent that we are all lucky he shared with us. He and Dr Suess are staples of childhood and the world is a sadder place without them in it. We send out condolences to your family and hope you find a small amount of comfort in the sheer joy he brought to so many children and adults. His legend will live on through his books.

It is so sad to see that someone who has made a living enriching children's lives has passed on. I was a child in the '80s who has made every attempt possible to collect as many Berenstain Bears books as I could. I even enjoyed the TV show based on the books. In any event, this Berenstain Bears fan sends his condolences to the family that was the basis for this particular series of childrens' books.

I'm eight years old and i'm growing up reading the Berenstain Bears Books. I have a whole shelf full of your Berenstain Bear Books, that was passed down from my older sister. My mom and I read at least one every night, they are my absolute favorite. My sister is expecting a baby and I want to pass them on to my niece or nephew when they are old enough. Love Victoria Evenson.
January 13, 2006
Berenstain Bears books were my favorite as a child, and I still love them as adult. Being an upcoming teacher, I plan to read these books to my students. Thanks for making reading fun!!
January 13, 2006
I am now 21 years old and to this day, I still love the Berenstein bear books. My mother passed on mine and my brothers collection of Berenstein Bear books to my nephew. As a kid i always wanted to be like my big brother or should I say looked up to him. He had about 5 books and now I wanted them. For every holiday like a birthday or christmas we would ask for them for gifts from my mom and dad. We started quite a collection between us two. However in the beginning of the books they say "This book belongs to..." some of those were left empty and we would fight over them. Being one of eight children you could only imagine what we thought was ours. I loved every book I ever read, some more than other but each book taught an important lesson and thats was I always remember. I remember my mom rocking me on her knee as she read one out of our little collectiion. To this day I wish I collected eevry single one. It was the biggest competition between my brother and I to see who had more berentstein bear books, escpecially the priginal ones listed on the back of the books. I thank you for making this memory possible because I don have that many good memories from childhood with my one brother. Now we get along but those were the good ol' days...(the book, "the new little sister", that was me...) Beautiful work I am going to search online to see if I can get a copy of those berenstein bear books some of ours are so worn, some from fights and some from reading that they are taped over and over and over from my mom to try and save them. I would like to have the complete collection for my children. I am going to try to look online so that my kids can have them and I can enjoy reading them over and over and over again. Sincerely, Elizabeth Daus

January 12, 2006
I have a Daughter that loved the Berenstain Bears growing up... and now I have three Granddaughters that love the Berenstain Bears. It's very rare that one person can have such a positive impact on millions of lives in the way that Mr. Berenstain did. He's the type of individual that should be immortalized in some way as to provide a good role model for our youth growing up today. People struggle too much to provide the proper environment for their children. This world is/was very lucky to have a human being Such as Mr. Berenstain. He provided a fundumental way to build the proper values in young children today. He is/was to books that Mr. Rogers was to TV. I really can't say enough, he was a great man and will be missed deeply.
January 11, 2006
My daughter loves the Berenstain Bears, starting with Berenstain's A Book. I am glad that she enjoys the TV show on PBS Kids as well as the books. I'm sure that Stan was (and would have been) proud of all the generations of kids that have (and will have) gained a love of reading from his work.

Our prayers are with his family. God bless you all.
January 11, 2006
I have just recently heard of Mr. Berenstain's passing. I am very sorry to hear it. I was such a fan of his books. Thank you Mr Berenstain for such wonderful memories.
January 11, 2006
When a person has taught so much GOOD in life directly to our kids or even to us as parents, we all know Big Papa Bear will rest in peace and have a special place with God; and that he will continue to enjoy watching (from Heaven) the excitement and GOOD each page of the Berenstain Bears brings into each pair of eyes that find these treasures. Thank you so much to both of you, Mr. and Mrs. Berenstain and to all your children who were your inspiration, God will acompany you through this hard time, my deepest condolations and at the same time congratulatios for filling so many hearts with joy, hope, knowledge and GOOD, God Bless you all, Marielisa Toledo,(Caracas, Venezuela)

January 11, 2006
The Berenstain Bears books and movies were always educational fun as a kid. As an adult I watched the movies just sing along with the theme song (both the new one and the old one)! Now as a parent, I will pass the legacy of reading the books and watching the movies on to my son. Through these books, I will be able to teach my son the life lessons that these stories taught me - honesty, patience, respect and never jealousy. Thank you. You will forever be cherished and missed.

Our sincere condolences to the Berenstain family.....
My daughter Gabby who is 3 1/2 is a huge fan of the Berenstain bears. She can't get enough of the books, when we go to the library she heads straight to the section with the bears books. The TV show has made her a much better eater at dinner time since "her show" comes on right after. The life lessons that the books give have made parenting a lot easier for us and even remind us of how our own actions as adults effect everyone, especially our children.
Mr. Berenstain has left a great gift to all of us, he will be deeply missed.

Sincerely, Gabby and Christina

I grew up reading these wonderful books, and I am pleased that both my son(5yr) and daughter (15mth) love them as well. I remember as a child writing letters to mr. berenstain and will never forget the lessons he has shared with me and all the other children in the world! We will always remember him.

To the Berenstain Bears family:
My children and I loved reading the many stories about the bears as I have a son and a daughter and they loved the way the young bears interacted with each other and with their parents, sometimes fighting, sometimes loving and always being loved. The moral of each of the stories was very heartwarming and so true to life. My children learned important lessons. My daughter even took her books with her on babysitting jobs and those children loved to listen to her read to them. My children and I grew together as a family just as the bears did and I applaud you for all that you have given us as readers and as a family. Thank you so much!

As a parent and a teacher I love Papa Bear and his family. They have taught so many positive life lessons to my children, both my own and those in my classroom. I confess to enjoying All in the Family in Good Housekeeping years ago. Stan Berenstain will be truly be missed in the world of children's literature. My prayers and condolences are sent to the family; may their memories and love replace the sense of loss, when they are ready. God Bless.
December 27, 2005
I loved reading every Berenstain Bears book when I was young, and I couldn't even begin to pick a favorite. My little sister knew every page of "The Berenstain Bears and the Spooky Old Tree" by heart before she could even read. I'm a sophomore in college right now, with vet school ahead, but I know that when I have children one day, I will read the Berenstain Bears to them. I am terribly sorry for your loss, but I hope you can take comfort in knowing that the wonderful impact of his work will live on.
December 27, 2005
I have been an educator for over ten years and the Berenstain Bear books have been a wonderful part of my classroom every year. Thank you for your creativity and simple ways of encouraging children to be their very best, as they struggle with growing up.
December 27, 2005
Some of my fondest memories of childhood are reading your books with my father. The Berenstain Bears practically taught me to read. Your legacy will reach further than you ever could have imagined. Sincerely, Heather Sorrells
December 27, 2005
My daughter Priya loves your books, and has the bear family stuffed animals. Your work has touched our whole family, and has often helped us through difficult times parenting a four year old. If we can say that Sister or Brother has gone through the things she is going through, she feels much better about it. Thanks so much for your sensitive, sweet stories. Our thoughts are with your family.
December 26, 2005
All 3 of my kids loved the Berenstain Bears! They're teenagers now. Every now and then, one of them will mention something from one of the books and the others will chime in with their memories of the book. Some of the books have been read so much that they're now held together with tape. I'm looking forward to having grandchildren and reading these timeless books to them. Thanks for so many happy hours spent reading together.

My condolences on the passing of Stan.

We treasure your wonderful wholesome stories. Thank you.
December 21, 2005
My sympathies to you and your family. I grew up having my parents read me your books, only to get older and read them all by myself. Now, as a 1-2 grade special education teacher, I use your books, ideas, and concepts to teach countless lessons. Every time I read them to my students, I get just as excited as I did when I was younger and my mom would take me to the store to pick out a new Berenstain Bear book! Thank you for all you have done to influence the lives of so many - you're an inspiration.
December 21, 2005
Our daughter is 20 now and has passed her Berenstain books on to her 6 year old cousins. We all learned a lot from these books as she grew up. You have helped many people through crisis and everyday life by instilling morals and common sense. So sorry to loose you.
December 20, 2005
Thank you so very much for the wonderful stories that have enriched the lives of my two children for years. My daughter, Elizabeth who has Down's Syndrome, particularly loved the many stories. These gave her insights into her world through the eyes of Brother and Sister Bear. Reading the stories about going to the doctor and the dentist helped eased those situations in her own life. God bless you and your family.

My condolences on the passing of Stan Berenstain. I grew up with the Berenstain Bear books and I have continued the tradition by collecting and reading them to my two young kids. The stories are timeless and express the messages I want to get across. I know his memory will live on forever every time a child picks up one of his books.
December 20, 2005
Our sincere sympathies and condolences from several thousand readers in South Africa who have grown up with the bears. Not only have they discovered the fun of reading, but through your books have discovered the rules of life - Grandma in "The bears meet a stranger" must pass on the most balanced of all messages - not all apples in the box are bad!!

Most sincerely,Cheryl Gibbs, a school librarian, and Audrey Hitchcock, a children's book enthusiast, who runs a specialist bookshop in Pretoria, South Africa. Audrey is including an article on Stan and Jan's work in the next quarterly issue of her newsletter, "Off the Bookshelf"

December 17, 2005
I was sorry to hear that Stan Berenstain died. I actually read some of the Berenstains' late '50s-early '60s "Lover Boy" paperbacks that my parents had (still have, in fact), before I ever read any Berenstain Bears. They used "Stanley and Janice Berenstain" in those days, and in the photos on the back covers, they looked like they really enjoyed each other. I got the same impression from a feature article in Parade about 10 years ago.

Thanks for everything, Stan[ley] and Jan[ice].
December 17, 2005
I have just heard tonight about the passing of Stan Berenstain. What a loss to all those he touched in his life.
Please know how much I appreciate his contribution to children's literature. I read the Berenstain books as a child and shared them with my children, and now my grandchildren. My 28 year old daughter is a preschool teacher who shares the Berenstain Bear books with her young students, so I am thrilled to still be able to give her these books for her classroom collection.
I know that generations to come will benefit from the work that Stan & Jan have done together. Their efforts together have encouraged young children to read and helped them to understand some of the difficult things about growing up.
May God bless the entire Berenstain family and may they know that our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.
December 16, 2005
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of such a wonderful author. I grew up on the books and absolutely love them. I remember reading them and they would always help me get through tough situations. I'm very sorry the the loss of Mr.Berenstain. I grew up on your books and now I am reading them to my 7yr. old daughter Shaye. She loves your books and has learned to read by reading your books. I save every one of mine and Shaye's books so she will one day be able to read them to her children. Our prayers are with your family at this difficult time and also at the season of Christmas, but God will bless you all greatly.Your in our prayers, and we'll be looking for the next book soon. Thanks, for the memories Stan and thanks to your boys for the future books for my daughter to have memories with her children. I am 35 yrs. old and I still love reading to my daughter. December 13, 2005
I was born in 1982 and as soon as I learned how to read I began collecting The Berenstain Bears First Time Books. It was a hobby that I shared with my mother. Every week we'd go to Caldor and I'd pick one out to buy. And surprisingly for a kid of my age I kept them in pristine condition - no tears, rips, pages missing, stains etc. I remember while my sister was playing outside with friends that lived on our street, I would sit in a cozy corner of my room with the whole collection stacked beside me and contently read through each and every one of them. When I was 17 my mother died and soon after I foolishly sold my collection (over 50 in all) on ebay. A few years later I regretted it, realizing the sentimental value they possessed, evoking warm memories of my mother and the sheer enjoyment I still had from reading them even as I am now an adult. I began collecting them all over again back in September and have collected about 32 so far. One day when I have kids I will share these wonderful books with them and hopefully they will appreciate them and enjoy them as much as I did and still do. I credit the Berenstains for how I've always been praised for my vocabulary skills and for how articulate I am and how I love to write and read. Because of the entertaining style of your books it made me appreciate literature later in life and make reading for me a pleasure and books something to devour. Mr. Berenstain will be missed immensely but his talent will live on for generations of little children whenever they turn a page of his books.
December 13, 2005

One of my special possessions is an autographed coloring sheet titled "Welcome to Bear Country". Stan and Jan sent it to me and my two youngsters in 1987 after we wrote them a letter telling how we liked their books. The illustration shows the Bear family at a fishfry in Bear Country. Their note says, "With special thanks to Mom for the great letter! It makes the whole fishfry worthwhile! from Stan and Jan Berenstain". In my job as an elementary librarian, I use the poster as part of my Berenstain Bear display. So special!

With sympathy in the loss of a clever author and illustrator....

Dear Jan, Leo and Michael,

I shared some personal information with my classroom last week, including the books you signed last year and the photographs Jimmy and I took during our visit. I also had some other memorabilia we have collected over the years. My students were touched so much by you and Uncle Stan! They each had personal stories around specific books. Even a student in my class from Thailand knew of your books and had enjoyed them. The world is really a better place since the two of you created the bears. Take care and we all here in room 204 wish you well.

Although my writing cannot entertain, amuse, or educate in the way that the late Mr. Berenstain's could--I felt compelled to return the favor the best I could.

Your books have truly raised generations of fans. Very few authors have the ability to be so universally admired--yet Mr. Berenstain has succeeded.

You will truly be missed, but your Berenstain books will always be timeless, and part of each of us.

Thank You Stan.

Oh my goodness! My story is much like that of the previous guest: "Jennifer Lundy (Ingleside, TX )". I didn't know of his passing until today that I came to the website to look for and buy books for my now 2 month old girl (1st child). I grew up reading these books and love them very much. They teach about morals and manners in a subtle way and are so much fun to read and the art is great. This indeed is a great loss to us all. I certainly will be passing on the books I have and buy to my child and hope that future generations come to discover and enjoy these great books too.
December 09, 2005
Thank you so much Stan for all of the wonderful books that you have written. I am now 23 years old and still love curling up with a good story about Brother and Sister Bear. I pray that you will rest in peace and enjoy the good life now.

December 06, 2005
I just wanted to thank stan for the great books he made. I am 22 yrs. old and I have loved the Berenstain bear series for what seems like my whole life. When I was a little girl and the scholastic book club would come to my school to sell books i always wanted to get the newest Berenstain book but my mom was a single parent so she always had to say no. But that never stopped me, because I would just check them out from the school library on our classes library days. So I really just want to say thank you, because of your work I am a fantastic reader and as an adult i catch myself watching the show and continuing to read the books. Respectfully Crystal Cruz A reader for life.

God bless the Berenstains for a wonderful book series, and my sincerest sympathy to you at this time of loss.

December 05, 2005
Just this morning I was trying to answer my son's questions about Santa and I thought back to Papa Bear's answer to Sister when she asked about the same thing; that Christmas is a special time when almost magical things can happen. It was a truthful answer but didn't take away my son's ability to believe. I've often drawn on the Berenstein Bears wisdom and I admire the light touch and good sense in all of the books. Thank-you to Stan Berenstain. He will be missed but his spirit will continue to give guidance and entertainment with the Berenstain Bears.
December 05, 2005

On Thanksgiving day my younger daughter's boyfriend entertained the entire family by reading the Halloween story, but "modernizing" it as he went along. We will always remember how the Berenstains are a part of our lives. We are sad at the loss of Stan. Thanks for a glimpse of a world of normal children and loving adults.

Dear Berenstain Family: I can't tell you how many of Stan's books we had at one time. They helped my children grow up. If I had a problem, I knew there would be a Berenstain Bear book out there to help me solve it. For example: My son's first trip to the dentist, when on of my boys was going to have some minor surgery, when I was pregnant with my second child, his book about telling the truth, manners and too much TV. I need one now for me on Berenstains Bears go to college, momma bears empty nest syndrome. Thank you so much for making my like a little easier by being there for me and my boys. You touched more hearts than you'll ever imagine, now you can touch the stars. With sincere condolences, the Weddick Family.
December 02, 2005
Stan and Jan's books helped us put our young daughter to sleep many nights....thank you for the memories!

December 02, 2005
Papa Bear,
What can I say? You taught me manners and kindness and everything else to help me through life. Now my children watch you everyday. It's funny to see that over 15 years later the Bear Family is still as popular as ever. My heart felt sorrow is out to Mama Bear. Just wanted to let you know here in Oklahoma we are praying for you. Thanks so much for the good times in my childhood and now with my children.
Sincerly Yours,
December 02, 2005
I have been a fan of the Berenstain Bears since I was 4. I am now 23 and teach second grade. I was luck enough to have my mom hold onto all of my Berenstain Bear books and now my students are enjoying the exact same books I enjoyed when I was there age. Great books become classics. Berenstain Bears books were the only books I loved reading when I was little. Now I love to share them with my students.

December 02, 2005
I am a 30 yr old mother of two young daughters, and I enjoyed all of those books as a child! You will be missed!
December 02, 2005
We started our family (which eventually included 9 children), in 1964, about the same time you began writing the Berenstain Bears. Your stories were a favorite part of their growing up years, and now it's sweet to see the tradition continue with our grandchildren.

Your stories taught so many valuable morals, in a way that made family discussions easy to have once the story was read.

You will never know how many lives you have affected and influenced for good - it's like asking how many apples are in an apple seed - the numbers keep growing and growing like the energy rabbit keeps going and going. What a wonderful legacy!

Judging from the topics of your stories we know you have the tools that bring peace, comfort, and hope, as you work through the loss of your dear husband and father. Our hearts - millions of them - are with you. Stan will certainly be missed - but NEVER forgotten!
December 02, 2005
Mrs. Berestain and family, my sincerest sympathy in the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. As many have also written, my three daughters, now 21, 23, and 27, grew up on the Berestain Bear books, and they are packed away waiting for grandchildren that will one day enjoy them just as much. I can only imagine the sorrow you must feel losing both your beloved husband and collaborator. But please know the joy and pleasure you both brought into the lives of millions of families with your delightful stories. Sincerely, Lisa Hanrahan

In a word or two, THANK YOU! Values, Ethics, Humor--all which build character. From age one to 12, or more, Christa lived the life of the Berenstain Bears every night. Now at age 26, she still talks about the Berenstain Bears.

To a family that has given so much to so many, thank you. Please commit to digitizing all that you have done for generations that follow.

We share your loss, but we celebrate the life of one great man and the family that follows.

Again, Thank You!

I have loved the Berenstain Bears books for as long as I can remember. I even brought them with me babysitting to read to a new generation. Even now I refuse to allow my mom to give away my old copies since I know I'll want them later when I have kids.
Thank you Stan Berenstain, for helping to make me love reading as much as I do. And to his family I want to give my condolences.

We were so sad to hear of Stan Berenstain's passing. Our family felt as though we knew him. First, of course, through his and Jan's wonderful books, but also through our late parents,Wende and Harry Devlin, who were also authors and illustrators of many children's books. They met Stan and Jan on one or two occasions and were admirers of them and their work. The creative life is one of great reward and often one of great sacrifice, and the fact that both my parents and the Berenstains were partners in love as well as in art makes both of their stories very special. What extraordinary legacies both have left to the world. Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Berenstain and her sons.

Berenstain Family - My thoughts and prayers go out to you. May you have peace and joy knowing that you have touched lives all over the world through the gift of writing. One of the only times in my life I won first prize at something was about 25 years ago when I won first place in Children's Storybook Reading in my high school Speech Class. The book I read was the Berenstain Bears Christmas. The audience loved it when I came to the page that displayed just one word - SPLAT!! The look on my face as I read it made the audience laugh. I didn't even own the book - it was my niece's, and I used to read many of your books to her when I babysat her. I never had children of my own, but now my niece is almost 30 years old and ready to have her first child. I shall have to stock up on your books so I can have the pleasure of reading them to the next generation!
December 01, 2005
I loved your shows and books thank you.
December 01, 2005
Thanks for making reading so much fun for so many children through the years. Our deepest sympathy to your family.
December 01, 2005
I'm 36 years old and grew up with the Berenstain Bears. A few years ago my parents boxed up all my childhood books thousands of miles away and sent them to me. Opening them was like a time capsule - I remember every single one. The Big Honey Hunt was a favorite.

We had our first child a year and a half ago and recently started sharing this collection with him. He asks for "Uhnee" (Honey Hunt) by name. Several times a day, in fact!

I cannot tell you what it means to me to be able to share these very same memories with him. He is evolving into a verbally expressive child with a ravenous appetite for all books.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Mr. Berenstain. You will live eternally in our bookshelves, hearts and vivid childhood memories.
December 01, 2005
We are so sorry for your loss. We thank you for your wonderful books. We will forever treasure your work. We will always keep you alive in our hearts and we'll never forget you.

December 01, 2005
The Berenstain Bear books were -- are -- as much fun for a parent to read as they were for a child to be read to. My thanks for many memories of reading them to my daughter and for helping her to become a lifetime reader.

I also want to thank you and Stan -- you were in my home too often for him to be Mr. Berenstain -- for the gentle humor and for the lessons in life my daughter got and the sound lessons in parenting that I got from the books.
December 01, 2005
In a world of heartbreak, fear, and violence, the Berestain Bears are unique. They give kids a world of peace and happiness, something for which they can also strive.
As a child, I loved to read. The Berestain Bears were amongst my favorites. This is a great loss to the world. Please know that you are not alone in your sorrow.
My deepest sympathies.

Stan Berenstain was beyond a genius when it came to writing books for children that not only could entertain, but also educate and guide them through some of the major obstacles and experiences that children are faced with and go through every day. He had a gift. He (along with his very talented wife Jan) could take a situation or a dilemma that was complex, hard to understand and uncomfortable for children, throw in a bit of the Berenstain magic, and make that same situation (with the help of their beloved bears) so much more simple, relatable and secure for children to deal with and talk about. He, along with his inimitable ability to captivate, entertain and educate young children everywhere will be terribly, terribly missed. My love, my thoughts and my prayers are with Jan, the rest of Stan’s family and friends, and his audiences (both past, present and future) across the globe. He certainly touched my life in a profound way.

All 3 of my children have grown up on the Berenstain Bears books - we have the entire collection, started when our oldest was 2 and she is now 20. We live in Moscow, Russia now and I work as librarian in an international school - the Berenstain Bear books are some of the most popular and most read books in our library!

The Berenstain Bears have been apart of my life for as long as I can remember, from the books to the outstanding TV show. Thanks for all the fun memories.

Mr. Berenstain was so good a writer and child psychologist that he made it all look easy. He brought American children their earliest "moral" choices and helped them sublimate their desires. What an important cultural figure he has been.

Mr. Berenstain and family,

If it were not for your wonderful stories, I don't think I would be the avid reader I am today. Your books and your life inspire me to read to my future children someday. Thank you for letting me visit Bear Country. My hope is that your family will continue with the legacy of your fine work.

I learned to read with the Berenstain Bears books. Thirty years later, I'm a professional writer and editor, and my career is due to the love of reading I developed as a child.

And to think I'm just one of millions of other adults who learned to read with the Bears.

Thank you, Stan. Thank you so much.
November 30, 2005
God bless you, Stan. Your books are a source of wholesome life experiences and a delight to little ones...and their parents. They will always be cherished in my family. My condolances to your family.

I was sadden to learn of the passing of Stan Berenstain. I am 26 years old and I remember as a child my mom and dad reading to me all the various Berenstain Bear books. In fact, if I remember correctly, I believe that the very first book I learned to read was a Berenstain Bears book. Thank you, Mr. Berenstain, for helping give me the love of and the gift of reading, as well as giving the world such wonderful books. You will be missed.
November 30, 2005
How sad we were to hear of Mr.Berenstain's passing. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world. The books meant so much to me and my girls. November 30, 2005
I want to send my deepest condolences to The Berenstain Family. I remember reading Stan's books when I was a child and to then find out that he was an alum of The University of the Arts, which is where I currently work was exciting for me because I got to learn more about him and what he did. I now read his books to my daughter. She also loves to watch The Berenstain Bears on tv.
Stan will never be forgotten.

God Bless!!

Anyone who can dedicate his or her life to encouraging reading, while conveying the good times, morales, and difficulties of family living has to be a wonderful person. Certainly, he or she has lived a life that is very worthy of respect and gratitude. I have always admired both Jan and Stan Berenstain. My condolences go out to the entire Berenstain family.
November 30, 2005
Goodbye Stan! So sorry to see you go. Thanks so much for the wonderful books I read when I was a child and now read to my own daughter. You will be missed, but forever immortalized through the Berenstain Bears!! I will always remember where not to have a picnic! Condolences to Jan and the rest of the family.
November 30, 2005
I have absolutely loved the Berenstain bear books ever since I was in Elementary School. This could possibly be because there were handpainted portraits of the bears hanging in the elementary school library. I remember walking into the library as a child and always pointing out the paintings and saying brother bear! now as an adult I realize just how sacred those portraits are, and how lucky i was as a child to live in teh same community as your family! being born and raised in Solebury, I have grown to love the series of books that have been published. Now as a teacher, I read them to the children in my classes. I am always proud to say that the Berenstain's are from my Hometown. I hope that the school saved those pictures of brother, sister, mama and papa bear that hung on the walls of the library. What a cherished gift! I know I will always remember the love that poured out in every book, and will continue to pour out in every book I am sure. My deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes out to Jan and the entire Berenstain family.
November 30, 2005
I just adore the Berenstain Bears!! My children (now ages 21 and 25) had so many of your books!! I now teach preschoolers with disabilities and have used your books for the 25 years plus that I have been teaching, I just love the themes in the books. I have an extensive collection and will continue to expand it. I love everything about the Berenstain Bears!!!
November 30, 2005
I really enjoyed your books as a child, I hope Jan Berenstein continues the legacy. Rest In Peace
November 30, 2005
The first book our daughter learned to read was "The Berenstain Bears and the Sitter." That was over 20 years and many other Berenstain Bears books ago. Now we have a two year old foster granddaugher who gets read to from our daughter's Berentstain Bears books plus a growing library of her own. I'm sure that these will get use again when our daughter starts having children of her own. In the words of the Bob Hope song, "Thanks for the memories." May God be with you.

My 12 year old son was practically raised on Berenstain Bears books. Every night we used to read one of the Berenstain books and a Dr. Suess book. They were some of the best written children's books out on the market. He made a wonderful difference in my son's life and will be sadly missed.
November 30, 2005
Thank you for all the wonderful memories growing up! I remember being so excited about every trip to the library knowing I could get a Berenstain Bears book! Not many people get to be such an amazing influence to so many people in one lifetime. Thank you for sharing your joy as I am now sharing it with my son.
November 30, 2005
Our 2 year old daughter just adores your books. Her favorites so far are The Bears' Vacation and By The Sea. To her, we are Mama Bear and Papa Bear (that silly bear!). We know that she will enjoy these and the other 197 or so books for many more years to come. Thank you so much for helping our daughter discover the joys of books and reading. To Jan and family, our sincerest condolences for your loss.
November 30, 2005
I was very sad to learn of Mr. Berenstain's passing today. My wife & I have enjoyed reading Stan & Jan's wonderful books to our daughter Abby, who is 7, ever since she was a baby, and now she is able to read them pretty much by herself. But Dad (me) especially likes to find excuses to keep reading them with our daughter. The healthy yet realistic Bear Family that Stan & Jan created will live on for a long, long time for kids, and the Berenstain family has done a wonderful service for generations of families. We offer our condolences and prayers to Mrs. Berenstain, their children and grandchildren. God bless!
November 30, 2005
I'm incredibly sad to hear about the passing of Stan Berenstain. His books were literally my childhood. I grew up on them, and enjoyed them so much. I know he'll still live on in spirit, because someday I will have my children enjoy the wonderful books that this man wrote, which I cherish with all my heart.
November 30, 2005
I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Berenstain. As a kid I read almost every Berenstain Bear book I could find. The everyday lessons on morality were so well written for children. It is sad that so few today choose to do what is right. It is my prayer that the family is comforted in knowing God's promise to us to one day, "swallow up death forever, and wipe the tears from all faces." Isaiah 25:8.
November 30, 2005
Thanks for a wonderful series of stories. I emailed the story of Mr. Berenstain's passing to my mom and brother, they were our favorite books.
November 30, 2005
We will mis you.
