September 26, 2012
My condolences to the Sabol family,my thoughts and prayers are with you. I was sad to hear about the passing of Steve. And my sympathy to his NFL FILMS family as well. May GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU. May the LORD grant you strength, and give you peace. About two years ago, I wrote to NFL FILMS. Just telling Steve how much I enjoy his work. And that I was a Steelers fan. He sent me a letter back,to tell me he appreciated my kind words about nfl films. And also sent me Steeler dvds. Which was very nice of him to do. And totally unexpected. I never met Steve, and he did not know me. I thanked him for the gift. There is a reason why some people are great. They know how to treat people. They just act,and carry themselves the right way. We lost one of the great ones. Steve and his father ED SABOL,were pioneers. They brought the NFL into your living room. The sights and sounds. The voice of JOHN FACENDA,And later HARRY KALAS.And the music. I was hooked. I remember the Joe KAPP one. How he never gave up. Win or lose he was the best he could be. How that would pump you up. Or BUTKUS crushing somebody. OR UNITAS, OR WALTER PAYTON. FRANCO, BRADSHAW. I loved hearing their stories. It must be great doing something you love for a living. Steve was blessed to find his calling in life. You could tell that he and his father were football fans. What a great life, and legacy. Entertaining and bringing joy to millions of people. Steve you left your mark. Both of you are responsible for making new fans, and for making the NFL the popular sport that it is. THANK YOU. R.I.P. STEVE. With sympathy, BILL LOVELAND. SCRANTON,P.A.

Steve was the man I grew up watch n NFL films his dad ed was a icon
September 25, 2012
Nobody did it better. Steve and NFL Films were and are every bit as important to Professional Football as television. What a shame that major league baseball doesn't have a "keeper of the flame" that has preserved its history the way Steve and NFL Films has preserved the history of Professional Football.
September 25, 2012
Steve will be missed by all football fans. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.

To be united in effort creates a bond. Mr. Sabol and his father had that bond. Together they made something for all mankind to enjoy and we do. We set in our homes and hear everything going on miles away on the football field. This is the way The Father and the Son worked together in creating mankind and all that we see in the earth.Gen 1:26 He The Father and He The Son were one because they worked together and were in agreement in purpose. may you be comforted by these words.

September 22, 2012
My prayers are with the Sabol family.

The NFL would not have the reach nor the tremendous fans support without the creative genius and many contributions of Ed and Steve Sabol.

Every NFL player and owner should reflect upon this and say a prayer tonight for Steve and his family.
September 22, 2012
No one could had bring football to light like the sabol family. Thank god for the sabols
September 22, 2012
To the Sabol family.
I am writing for my husband, Conan Cantwell of Dallas Tx. Conan and Steve were college room mates at Colorado College their junior year. What a year it was for "Sudden Death Sabol."
Conan speaks so fondly of Steve and Ed Loosli. Conan has had tongue cancer and a stroke these past two years. He is doing well as of today. Conan would love to share a photo with you but we do not have your address. If you wish to receive the photo, please reply. Conan sends his best to Steve's parents.

Your footage set the standard for the way football was covered. Your were a true pioneer and anything that NFL films did was truly excellent. Enjoy your time in heaven with Vince Lombardi, John Facenda and Al Davis. I will want the Autumn Wind placyed at my funeral
September 22, 2012

I would simply say "the voice". I loved the warmth and the passion that he gave to us in telling the story about football. When a person has so much to give, the question beggede to be asked, Why? Why do good people die? Roman 5:12. However the promises of God will come true. 1Cor.15:54-57

I was happy that Steve got to accompany Ed at the HoF induction. RIP.

September 20, 2012
The Sabol's- I can't imagine the pain you'er experiencing at this time. Certainly, if a person such as your husband, father and son has the ability to give all of us great memeories as he did, one can only imagine what private memories you all shared. Thank you for allowing us a glimpse into an artistic, serious, but funny and always class mind and poet, by way of word and film. I appreciate those moments that allow us to celebrate things in life such as a football game shot and delivered by Mr. Sabol. May the God who comforts us bring you all some measure of peace during this very difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all- Richard and family (Oakland "The Autumn Wind" Raider fans)

Made Football enjoyable to watch.I enjoyed listing to the music while watching a great catch or a fumble. Thank You May Steve Rest in Peace
September 19, 2012
Dear Sabol family,

I know that I speak for millions of NFL fans in saying that the artistic creativity of NFL Films, developed by Steve and his father, was superlative and nonpareil! I can say that my inner spirit has been touched by the work of the Sabols, along with the music of Sam Spence and voice of John Facenda, all great artists! I had never met Steve, but he has long been a guest in my home with all the shows he has worked on or hosted. Steve, you had a GREAT LIFE working with a GREAT FATHER, and your legacy will shine on forever!

One great anecdote about Steve's first meeting at age 23 with Vince Lombardi on the day that Steve and his father Ed were to film the NFL Championship Game:

Coach Lombardi and the Packers approached Steve as Vince fumed and barked that SOMEONE had parked in his parking spot. That "someone" - you guessed it: Steve. OOPS!

Keep a happy thought!

Steven Lipari
September 19, 2012
You and your father did amazing work that inspired me as a kid and still does today. Here is hoping when you see God's face and hear his voice he sounds like John Facenda. :) So long.
September 19, 2012
You helped make the NFL the sport it is today. What an amazing life. You will live on in our memories and in your amazing body of work.
September 19, 2012
My youth was shaped by sports. NFL Films was my favorite program viewing pastime. I loved watching the replay shows shown in slow motion set to amazing music and narrated expertly. It raised the wispy hair on the back of my neck and arms and thrilled me, inspired me, entertained me and even sometimes scared me. Steve Sabol and his Dad Ed were years before their time. The world lost a great man today.

Such a shock, I really liked Steve and his father and yes thay changed the way people look at Pro Football. It's amazing the things they did to the simple game of football, all the bloopers and replays were both funny and educational to football fans. Rest in peace Steve, you'll never be forgotten.

To Everyone in the Sabol Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies for the loss of your amazingly wonderful son, Steve.
I grew up watching and following him and his truly unbelievable projects.
I have three sons that were raised on Steve's projects also and call him the true founder
of the NFL.
He was such a pleasure to listen to, as he had a beautiful way with words.
Now, I”m sure he will have a big part in God's projects.
May God bless.

My sympathy goes to the fanily and friends. I will always seeing NFL Films, it was neat how we got to see pro football in a different way, that we didn't see on tv or in person. The follies were always fun to watch too and I loved laughing at them, as long I can remember. Thanks for making this football fan, understand the game better and help make the 60's Packers veyr popular.
September 19, 2012

As a young boy in rural Idaho,NFL films brought the sport home for me. It was an escape in the documentary style of presenting the highlights, stories, and the bloopers. In interviews Steve's passion shone through. The choice for the THE VOICE, out of this world. What memories. Bruce

Steve was so gifted in the "art" of NFL Films.I have taken advantage and reaped the benefits of this gift for 5 decades. In the 70's I hand painted Steve several original jackets, shirts, and T-shirts. He invited my wife and I to Bryn- Mawr for sessions to conceptualize his ideas for the work. We were by his creativity and eclectic tastes in art. Out of the hundreds of pieces I did in that period I remember his with a smile and will find the photos to remember him even better. Steve was a kind and exciting man. Dr. George Stovall.
September 18, 2012
My sincere condolences to the Sabol family. Ed and Steve contributed so much to the popularity of professional football. Their innovations in NFL Films was creative genius. My prayers are with you and may God Bless you all.

You lived the american dream and changed my life. Thank you Steve.
September 18, 2012
My husband. Dr. Greg Ellis spent a great deal of time with Steve.
They used to go to the movies in Bryn Mawr together.
Right now I am sitting on a couch that Steve gave to greg many years ago. I met Steve when I was just married to Greg . We were invited to his home for a party. Well , I was young and in shock with the people that were there. But Steve was so real. I felt like family.
Steve made a tape for me when I was in my 1st and only bodybuilding contest. We both enjoyed working on that . It was a form of art.
I have several letters that we sent to one another. They would make everyone laugh because of the outrageous stamps he used .
I know Steve is in heaven. Maybe he can get the real refs back to work.
Your were a real character. Be at peace.
September 18, 2012
There are few people in our lives who have had the impact you and your father have made to our society. You will always remain as one of the. I hope the future NFL Films can live up to your legacy!

To The Sabol Family:

From "It's A Wonderful Life" -

In the 60's/70's when NFL Films came on you stopped and watched! Great job, Steve Sabol. Rest in peace!
September 18, 2012
What a huge loss. The Sabol's are arguably one of the main reasons football surpassed baseball as America's game. They raised the perceptions of players to the status of epic heros. As kids, we'd watch the slow motion of the football with John Facenda's narrative as the ball travelled from the hands of the Griese's, the Namath's, the Unitas's, over the hands of the Bubba Smith's, the LT's, the Jack Tatum's into the grasps of the Paul Warfield's, the Bob Hayes's, the Lynn Swann's or Ray Berry's.....this man created legends and heroes and was as much a fabric of life in a America as anything. He will be missed. A genius...
September 18, 2012
i grew up watching football thru Steve's eyes, grew to love the sport. Thanks Steve!
September 18, 2012

To The Sabol Family:

Having been fortunate enough to know Steve for 36 years, please accept my sincere condolences on his passing. Steve was an incredible visionary, much like his father Ed.

The first time I met Steve was when he and an NFL Films crew came to New Orleans for a week to film a special, "Six Days to Sunday" where they followed Coach Hank Stram and the New Orleans Saints. Steve came into my office and requested a few minutes of my time to ask me a few questions on camera. Little did I know, I wouldn't wind up on the cutting room floor.

I never saw the finished product until nearly 30 years later and it revealed my platform shoes and much longer hair.

But more so, it said a lot about Steve. He cared enough to include me in it. After meeting his father months before, Steve took it upon himself to look me up and make me a part of the project.

I last saw Steve (with Ed) in Canton in 2003 for Hank Stram's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction. That is what makes this so sad. And Steve passed away today, on my 60th birthday.

He seemed so vibrant until his illness and had more energy than most people I know.

I am grateful for having had the opportunity to know him and wish you, his family, the love from all his friends. May you be comforted by the many fond memories you have of Steve.
September 18, 2012
You were always so kind to me. Rest in peace.
