Wonderful actor and special person. I will forever being thankful.
I had breakfast with Mr. Windom in the summer of 1980. He was starring in a show on the campus of ISU Terre Haute, Indiana. The show was Ernie Pyle. He was very friendly and talked about missing his family when he was on the road. My respects to his family.

Knowing Bill a lot of my life; he will be missed greatly. At 4 years old and Travel Town - I was too shy to put on the conductor hat - he did and made the party.
Bill, you will live forever in our hearts.
Prayers of peace and love to his family, Heather and Hope and Rebel.
We love you.
Love Jason and Robyn Miller
I fell in love with The Farmer's Daughter as a child and followed his career ever since then . What an incredibly gifted man with a perfectly delightful sense of humor. More than that, I've never heard that he was anything but kind, sweet, and thoughtful in real life. My thoughts are with his family.
It was comfortable watching him in a role. Sadly, his passing will be largely unmentioned in the media because there are no outrageous scandals associated with his life. Blessings upon him, his family and all in the profession who uphold the restorative values of entertainment.
Loved Mr. windom on
murder she wrote.
I so loved Mr.Windom when he was in the Farmer's Daughter. He influenced me in being able to know how to choose a husband. He will be missed from our presence, but he is in God's Holy presence.
I'm so sorry to hear the passing of William Windom. I had a chance to meet him in the summer of 1968 while filming of John Frankenheimer's The Gypsy Moths. What a gentleman. As an extra in the film all the stars were so kind including Mr. Windom. He'll be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

William Windom was a wonderful actor in the 60s thru the 90's, so good that ME-TV (a Classic TV station)paid him homage my showing a number of his portrails; God Bless you William on your trip home and thanks for all the memories!
He was a wonderful actor. At one time I noticed he was on nearly eery TV show...AND...in his one man Thurber theater. I wrote to him and sent him a Thurber cartoon book. He sent me a very gracious letter. Which I treasured. I am sorry for your loss and wish you and your family well. You all have been an important part of theater history. Honest. Bless you all.
Thank you for your service to your country
What a gentleman; what a loss. He served with my uncle in WWII and then went on to entertain us for decades. Never did get together with "Jessica", but waiting for that was half the fun. My sympathies to his family as well as the rest of his many, many fans.

I also remember his role in the tv series The Farmer's Daughter with Inge Stevens!!
I am in the habit of checking the obits every morning. I do this, because it is important to me to pay my respects to loved ones who have passed and to to offer my condolences to friends who have lost their loved ones. I sometimes read one of the celebrity obits, but have never read every single comment, until today. I have always admired Mr. Windom as an actor, but had no idea of what a fine man he was. It is obvious from the stories told here, that he was a considerate, sensitive, and modest man. I feel a loss for having not had the opportunity to know him. My codolences to his family and my deepest respect to Mr. Windom.
Thank you for all the enjoyment you provided to me when watching "Murder, She Wrote." Thank you to your family for sharing you with us. My condolences to your friends and family.

i just heard of the lost of William Windom I am related to William Mr Windom was so graceous that he stopped in Corvallis Oregon to meet my grandmother. May you find peace in our loving Lord arms. Your long long counsin,Lori Windom-Rictor
I had the privilege of seeing Mr. Windom perform his traveling show based on James Thurber stories at Sewickley Academy, near Pittsburgh around 1979. Very memorable.
In 1984 William played a dying man on St. Elsewhere. My own father, who resembled William, had died in 1983 and Williams performance brought me to tears as it felt like I was watching my own father. I wrote a letter to William telling him this and praising his performance. He wrote me back about how humbled he was that he could bring the performance so close and we started a correspondence that lasted several years. William was not only a fine actor but a wonderful human being. I will miss him. My sympathy's to the family of this terrific man.
My condolences to his wife and children. I remember him best for his "doctor" role on Murder She Wrote. It was a kind and wise character, no doubt like him in real life, and he complimented Angela Lansbury in this, one of my favorite, television programs. I missed "My World,..." so hope they will bring it out and rerun it so I can see it, too. I have seen him on many other appearances and always enjoyed his work.
My heart goes out to you and your families during this difficult time. The pain can be overwhelming at times, but remember that God of all Comfort has promised that in the near future you will be reunited with your dead loved one not in an unknown heaven but right here on earth under peaceful, righteous conditions.
My favorite performance of Mr.Windom,s was when he appeared on "Star Trek". He portrayed a star ship comander who was having a nervousw braek down. He was absolutely brilliant. My thoughts and prayers are with hif freinds and family.
We met Mr. Windom when he and his wife enrolled in the same Lamaze class in 1970 in Houston, TX. Very nice man, always, and we thank him for so many wonderful portrayals over the year. RIP

I'm sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed his work.
I heard the sad news this week that a very dear friend and army buddy of my father passed away. Some of you may remember him from "Murder She Wrote" or "To Kill a Mockingbird", but to me he was just "Windom" (as my father called him), a wonderful family friend who told the best stories and always came to visit us if he was anywhere near the East Coast. He was kind and generous and always made my children feel special, sending them their own post cards and presents from around the world. I will miss him and our talks, but I know that "Windom" and "Greek" (as he called my father)are together again smiling down on us. May his memory be everlasting!
I was just speaking to my daughter about William the other day as we watched "To Kill a Mockingbird". I have enjoyed his work in many different productions over the years. I also thank him for his service during WWII. He will be in my prayers, as will his family.

Never did a bad episode in anything. Great actor, and thanks for your World War II service. Loved him in the first color episode of "12 O'Clock High" called "Gauntlet Of Fire" as Lt. Col. Christy. What original Star Trek junkie can forget him as Commodore Decker in "The Doomsday Machine". As Spock said "He's gone", after he piloted the shuttle craft into the planet killer. Was great in "The Ivy Maze" in the Fugitive series, as well as his 2 appearances in Hawaii Five-0. Condolences to his family and many fans of all of his great TV appearances.

Condolences to the family & friends of William Windom. I enjoyed his show "My World & Welcome To It" and his recurring role on "Murder She Wrote." I also thought he was excellent in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and, especially, "The Detective." He was the kind of actor who was, perhaps, not a household name, but one who always gave an outstanding performance. A handsome guy, who it was always a pleasure to see perform on the big screen or small. He was truly a credit to his profession and will be missed.

Thank you for your service to our Great Country. Many people do not know what the WW-2 veteran had to endure. As a past member of the 82nd All the way Mr. Windom.
From the time I saw William Windom play Commodore Decker on Star Trek, I was a fan. No matter the character he played, he always turned in a solid performance. I'm just sorry I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person. R.I.P., William Windom, your work will never be forgotten.
From the mid 70s to mid 80s, I lived in LA, hoping to put together a viable, working career as an actor. My role models were people like Mr. Windom, whose roles all bore his unique stamp, but were never eclipsed by "personality." I met Sly Stallone right after "Rocky." And Bill, too, around that time. Bill's was the kind of career I wanted.
I would see him every now and then at the health club I attended in Encino. He was younger then than I am now. How time flies!
Rest William, until you hear at dawn,
the low, clear reveille of God.
Thank you for your service to this nation.
Thank you for sharing a part of your life with us.
He was the "go-to" guy for solid supporting and guest-star roles in so many films...we could always count on a terrific performance from William Windom. My condolences to his family, friends, and fellow fans.
My sympathy to the family,He was a great actor that will be remembered.Thank-You William Windom!R.I.P!
He gave us such pleasure with his seemingly effortless performances. Loved "My World" and his rendering of Thurber. Thank you, Mr. Windom.
In the late eighties, Mr. Windom and I often found ourselves at the same pub in Burbank. When I finally got up the nerve to introduce myself and express my appreciation for his body of work, especially MY WORLD AND WELCOME TO IT, based on the work on one of my favorite writers, James Thurber, Mr. Windom engaged me in conversation. This continued, with Mr. Windom talking about his work on MURDER SHE WROTE and always asking me about my job as a theatre instructor or about sister, who was struggling with terminal cancer at a nearby hospital. He was a kind, gentle man with me and I feel lucky to have conversations with him and even luckier to see him perform on stage.
I had the biggest crush on Mr. Windom when he appeared in "The Farmer's Daughter" with Inger Stevens and Cathleen Nesbit. To this day that show remains one of my favorites. Rest in peace Mr. Windom. You were a great actor.
My sympathies to the Windom family. I loved him in Murder She Wrote. God bless and rest in peace.
