I love every song that Wilson Pickett made. I just happened to be watching Unsung featuring Wilson Pickett as I type my thoughts, brought back a lot of old memories of Wilson songs. God Bless

Today for some odd reason i woke up thinking of Wilson he was a big part of my childhood. I will never forget the WICKED!!!
September 12, 2013
One of my all-time favorite singers. Wilson and Levi Stubbs are way up on the scale. I'm sorry, but folks today do not come close to Wilson's caliber; he is very much missed by me. I will never forget hearing on WHYN (Spfld, MA) "Midnight Hour" when the DJ musta gone on a long break; that poor 'lil 45 spun around with a big glitch in it. This went on for hours, "In the midnight, in the midnight, in the midnight," seemingly indefinitely. (I think if Wilson had known about it, he'd have got a good laugh!) Later on in the early 80's, I saw Wilson in Cambridge, MA. It was a small venue, so that was cool (saw Jr. Walker there, too.) Just bought "The Very Best of Wilson Pickett." Brings you right back to the mid-60's and 70's in a heartbeat!
August 04, 2013
Met Wilson in my teens when he was singing gospel. Also went to hear him sing at The Uptown Theater in Philly. Love his singing. He's greatly miss

To the Family ~ Those we love left us with gifts in the form of memories that no one can take away. They gave us wisdom that we can still recall, companionship when we were alone, comfort when we needed it, and memories of their laughter and smile. These are gifts of love that are ours to keep. Though I do not know the family, I would like to extend my condolences. May the tender mercy that God has always shown be with your family now so that you will know that you are not alone. And may the prayers of others help in some small way to bring you strength, comfort and courage each day. Many words will be expressed, yet we know God can express and provide to you and your family everything that is needed to care and sustain your hearts. - Isaiah 41:10 & 13.

Wilson Pickett made music that transcended generations - my father's, mine, and also my sons. "Mustang Sally" surely ranks up at the top of all-time favorites. Wilson Pickett was a gift given.
January 23, 2006
Mustang Sally, and Midnight Hour, will ring in the hearts and the minds of people for a very long time. Hearing those soulful songs being sung by such a man of passion only make you want to wish the music that is now being sung should have been sung like the Pickett would have sung them. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

23rd Psalms The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth in the past of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though We walk through the valley of the shadow of death,We will fear no evil;for thou art with us;thy rod and thy staff they comfort us. Thou preparest a table before us in the presence of our enemies;thou anointest our heads with oil;our cups runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives;and We will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Amen
This for the Families of Mr. Wilson Pickett with all the griefs we all go through in our lives don't seams to be enough for us, but just to bring you all comfort to let you know that your son was a wonderful and beautiful person that was born from the Mother and Father by the Lord Jesus Christ in his love that he has for all his children, that he gave up his life and shed his blood for us all, that he would not leave you all with out comfort to let you all know that your son is really happy where he has gone to, and that's with our Father that is in Heaven where he surely can look down on his love ones that he had to leave behind, and that he is truly watching you all, just remember the love you all shared with each others while he live, but God needs him more,I'm one for sure is truly gone to miss him and that beautiful heavenly voice and songs that he had sang that had made a long lived life in my heart and my families lives as well, Mr. Pickett I love you and really gone to miss you real deeply, I know that Lord has you on the right hand side of him and in his bossom as well, great sleep and rest in Heaven in the PearlyGates, with the streets of gold. We all truly love you and will miss you much, your fans, our children and their children, children, for years and years to come for ever and ever. love you always and will never ever forget you Mr. Wilson Pickett! will be playing your musics that you song so well, forever be in my heart. You have left us in death and join other singers in heaven, like Mr. Jerry Butler, Mr. Otis Redding, Mr. Vandross, Mr.Lou Rawls, Mr. Sam Cooke, Mr. Marvin Gaye, and Mr. Barry White, all is my best and great singers in the world, I really will miss the most. God be with you all, and your families as well. I wiil leave you all with the last verse the 27th Psalms It's a short verse of this; The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall we fear? the Lord is the strength of our life;of whom shall we be afraid? One thing have we desired of the Lord, that will we seek after;that we may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our life. God be forever with us all. Amen!

Good Travel Wilson, enjoy your last tournè in the sky.
January 20, 2006
My sincere condolenses to the Pickett family at this terrible loss. I'm one of the very many Wilson Pickett fans around the world. And like everyone else, I loved his sound. Growing up in Montreal, he was a superstar to us. Some singers come and go, but Wilson Pickett in 2006 is still the Wilson Pickett of the 60's.

Back in Montreal in the 60's I played in bands and all of them covered Mustang Sally and In The Midnight Hour. Now I'm 57 and playing in a band in Mississauga, and we're still playing Mustang Sally.

A huge loss to the music industry and his fans, but especially to the Pickett Family. Hopefully his family will find some comfort in knowing that he was a positive influence on so many people.
January 20, 2006
Gone but you'll NEVER be forgotten. Your music will be with us forever.

A musical legend has been lost. I am an avid Ford Mustang fan, and a huge fan of the song "Mustang Sally." In fact, I named both of my Mustangs that have been in my life and are in my life after the song. My 1993 5.0 Mustang GT and my 1996 Mystic Cobra were named Sally I and Sally II, respectively.
In a bit or irony, Pickett past away at the age of 64 - the same year that the Mustang was first introduced! Like the legend of the Mustang, Pickett's life and music will always be a legend in the hearts of both Mustang fans and music fans of all ages.
May you rest in peace, Wilson! You will be missed.

We are really beginning to feel the effect of losing so many greats in such a short period of time, I don't believe we are ever going to witness such creativity and showmanship like we witness from you, It's a great loss to the Entertainment Industry. As a child growing up in Louisville, I used to hear folks talk of you like you were next of kin, My mother used to blast your music on the Juke boxes at her little nightclubs and family restaurant she had, I was always going around singing that song 6345789 that's my number! Man what a great song that was, I loved also Don't let the green grass fool you too. Just know that although your music might not have been played today in constant rotation , you can believe that somewhere on this earth someone had the name Wilson Picket on their lips as truly one of the greatest. Peace will now be Still. Rip Great One

January 20, 2006
What a show the heavens are puttion on these days! Wilson has joined to add his tenor to that of Luther Vandross, the baritone/bass of Lou Rawls, and the musical maestro of Barry White! Maybe Richard Pryor is throwing in a few jokes during the musical interlude.
January 20, 2006
I grew up listening to Wilson Pickett and will forever remember his music. My prayers are with the family and pray for God to comfort you as only He can.

January 20, 2006
I remember while out for celebrations of one of my birthdays, I was on stage will a full band w/horns (and I cannot remember their name), at a bar call 'Grand Central' in Ottawa, On, Canada. I got up on stage and sang 'Land of 1,000 Dances'. The sound guy wanted to cut my mike, but the leader nixed that and I think the song lasted a long time, but at the end of it, the lead singer was amazed that I knew the lyrics. Some of the best Pickett songs were covered in the movie, 'The Commitments', (watch this movie and ignore the foul language).'In the Midnight Hour' and other classic songs are Mr. Pickett's legacy.
When someone writes and/or sings a song that's so good, that you cannot forget the words, beats or rhythyms...that is the best legacy that he/she leaves in the world.
God bless the Pickett family.
God has now received another band member into 'HIS' Rock & Roll heaven.

January 19, 2006
I too grew up listening to Wilson's music and loving it. In 1984 I went to a soul/blues concert at the Omni in Atlanta, and mostly wanted to see/hear Wilson Pickett and James Brown. There was a long delay before Wilson's set, and we heard that his band, who drove in from another state, arrived late. Unfortunately we only got to hear 3 songs performed by Wilson due to this, but it was the highpoint of the concert for me. I am saddened to learn of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends.
January 19, 2006
Thank you so much for the music you shared with us.

I was very saddened to hear of the loss of Wilson Pickett. The
"Midnight Hour" was one of my favorites. In 2005 my high school graduating class celebrated its 50th anniversary, and I was in charge of selecting the band. Although "Midnight Hour" was recorded in 1965, it was at the top of the song list. I extend my deepest sympathy to the Pickett family.

It just didn't get no funkier than 'Funky Broadway'. Straightforward, driving and no nonsense. Wilson Pickett was underappreciated, in my opinion. Always a favorite of mine, though, and I am saddened to learn of his passing. God bless his family, friends, and everyone who loved him.

To the family of the late Wilson Pickett

My wife and I have been fans of Wilson Pickett since his since his hit "I Found A love"

We were sorry to hear of his death. May the following poem be of some comfort to you.

May God Bless And Comfort You
By: Charles G. Turner, Sr.

At times like this when we don’t know what to do
Just talk to God and he will see you through
When words sometimes just won’t do and you don’t know what to say
Just talk to God and let him have his way

When friends and family come and go
Just remember that God has an open door
At times like this when words alone won’t do
May God bless and comfort you
January 19, 2006

January 19, 2006
To the Pickett Family,

My deepest condolences on your great loss as Wilson passes on to a more peaceful place.

We will mourn the loss of this great contributor to the music world.
His great songs were covered by nearly every single 1960's San Francisco bands, from rockers Jefferson Airplane and the Dead, to the funkdafied soul bands playing the Broadway clubs in San Francisco's North Beach, to the garage bands, vying to emulate that soulful Atlantic-Stax-Volt sound that Wilson helped keep popular.

I saw him perform in Amsterdam in 1969 and he brought the house down that night. He was loved world-wide.

January 19, 2006
To the family, friends and those who personally knew Wilson, I send my heartfelt condolences. May God continue to hold you all in his care and grace. To so many others who came to know Wilson as a "friend" on the radio, grooved to his music-and it is some good stuff at that,we have lost one of the best musical talents known. With so many musical greats passing in recent months (Luther Vandross and Lou Rawls to name a few), it just seems too much to take now that we have lost him (Wilson). There will never be another Mustang Sally-one of my all time favorites, and there will never be another Wilson Pickett. His musical gift created some very good times and memories for me! His music and spirit will live on!
January 19, 2006
