It has taken me a while to write anything, but know I will always cherish the time we spent growing up as kids. Once I heard from Matt Gudgel that you had made the ultimate sacrifice so soon after your deployment it hit me very hard and still does to this day. It is still hard to talk about what happened to you so soon in life to people when they ask me why I chose my career. With what I do I can finally give back in my way to the men and women of this country that go into the uncertain knowing they may pay the ultimate sacrifice. I wish more people would understand the severity to take care of our fallen hero families and the service men and women that come back to civilian life that suffer from post war trauma. I made a silent promise to you that I would do anything to get where I am today to help bring more soldiers back home safely, and Iver the last two years I have been in a role that can make that happen. Miss you bro and I will see you on the other side! Thank you for your service and know that you will never be forgotten!

SPC Long, I'm sure you are your smiling self as you always were. You are truly missed and your efforts are not forgotten. It was truly an honor to serve with you as your PSG. I wear your memorial band daily and often use your sacrifice as motivation for me and other Soldiers; because thats what you are for me and the rest of the Ghostriders you served with "MOTIVATION". Your sacrifice fuels my fire to continue and to never back down because you never did. I still remember the day you got offered the job as a gunner, you didn't even let me finish the request and your response was "Roger SGT, I'll do it" . I knew right then that this Soldier was as brave as they come. As I hold back the sadness of the culminating events I will just say THANK YOU job well done. See you on the other side. RIP...Scout's Out"

On this Memorial Day I want you to know that your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Even though I never had the honor of meeting you, I think of you often. Bill & I will be trying for a baby when he returns home from his current deployment. We are hoping for a son so we can name him in your honor.
