I first met Dodge at the New York National Boat Show on January 2, 1987 when we were awarded The Cruising World Medal for Outstanding Seamanship - Dodge for his Circumnavigation and I for a Subarctic Sailing Expedition.

The U.S.A. lost a genuine true-blue American.
“May Your Big Jib Draw”… Rest in peace Captain.
Our condolences to Dodge's family.

Just read Mr. Morgan's book about his solo circumnavigation and I admire the man more than ever. What a remarkable man who was able to master 5 months of terror, boredom and beauty and describe it so masterfully.

I was fortunate to sail American Promise to Bermuda, Newport and Halifax with Midshipmen racing for the Naval Academy in 2005. After reading Mr. Morgan's book, I am even more grateful for the experience. Many thanks to a man who lived life fully.
