I don't remember what post Steve held when I was playing in the Tigers' organization. To be honest, all of those titles ran together and seemed to mean the same thing. The one unique aspect to a minor league front office position, however, is the person who holds it. As a player who finished college a year into my minor league career, Mr. Boros not only allowed me to attend my graduation during the season, he also recognized me for the achievement in front of the entire team. It was a tad embarrassing, I'll admit. But I was very happy to know that Steve felt so strongly that graduating from University was such a positive attribute for the organization and for the individual. He was a layered man, deeper than baseball. I will always care deeply for the memories and experience I had with him.

I just wanted to relay that my 11 year old grandson loves baseball. And today Aug.3, 2014 a lady, who was at a ballgame in July 1961 when Steve Boros hit a foul ball and her father caught the ball, gave that ball to my grandson and he was so happy to get it. He will treasure it always.

Although it is far after the fact I cannot tell you how sad I was to hear of Steve's passing. We first met when he played for Buffalo and kept in contact for several years after that. Steve was a warm and caring person and I will always have fond memories of him.

To the Boros family:
I send my sincere condolences.

Steve was my favorite player since the 1961 season. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times and thought he was such a nice person--very self-effacing and modest. I once took a friend to meet him before a game when he was the third-base coach for Baltimore. My friend said, "I bet Elayne is your number one fan." Steve said, "Beside my family, she's my only fan!" I know that's not true--and I know he'll be deeply missed.
