There are no words that I can say to help to make you all feel better. Except to say that BRENDEN is a true HERO!!!!! God Bless you all.

To the Family & Friends of Brenden,
Several years ago a young man was spotted in our parking lot wearing tennis shoes you had to put sunglasses on to look at and a hair do that..well was different. We soon found out that it was Brenden, Jovanna's son, a part time employee for Good-To-Go. Not only was he "colorful" but Brenden was always cheerful, polite and a very hard worker. It was our pleasure to know him.
This same young man grew up, traded the hair for a helmet, the sneakers for
combat boots and became a SOLDIER. Brenden gave his life on foreign soil so that all of us could continue to enjoy our liberties. For that we will
be forever both sad and grateful.
Jim, Jovanna and Hannah our thoughts and prayers are with you at the most
devastating time of your lives but remember...you now have a special guardian angel up in heaven running around with funky colored sneakers watching out for you.
With love,
Karen, Mike, Barbara & Lorrie

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms, PFC Brenden N. Salazar, U.S. Army. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Brenden. And to Brenden it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. Brenden you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. No greater love and patriotism are shown than when a man lays down his life in service to his country. Brenden, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Brenden's family and loved ones.

“The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example.” Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) British politician and author.
*
Many words are used so often that their true meaning becomes diluted. The word “hero” is one of those words. The media chooses to use the word hero to describe any act of good intention. In the era of sounds bites and three minute segments on television or cable news the word hero has become over used and underappreciated. Even the print media are prone to cast the net of hero over to many acts of good Samaritans. The general population is left with the feeling that everyone who wakes up and walks out the door is a hero. It is true that we have heroes walking amongst us, yet becoming a hero is made of sterner stuff that rising and walking out the door.
*
For those of us who knew Brenden, we watched a boy become a man and a man become a soldier. His battle buddies will convey his friendship and camaraderie but underlying that friendship was a set of personal values forged by a loving family during his formative youth. Brenden learned the importance of selfless service and became a soldier who practiced that value. As his service career progressed he internalized other values. Values like personal courage, honor and duty may not have been verbally spoken but were demonstrated by his acts and deeds.
*
Some people work a life time to become a person of honor. Brenden achieved that status in a single score of years. Brenden's is a hero and gives us all an example to emulate. He is a hero who provides the memory of a great name and an inheritance of a great example. May we all honor his memory and carry with us his great example.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.

I am so sorry that you have suffered the ultimate loss of your son in service to his county. Sometimes it's hard to understand why a soldier has to die while serving to protect his or her country. He was a credit to the uniform and such an outstanding and shining example of a real hero. He knew it was in his blood to serve his country and to protect those who he truly loved and loved him, as well as those who just stay in the shades of the freedom a soldier provides.
From the book of Isaiah 6:8 “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" And just as Isaiah answered the Lord, Brenden answered. He lived with a father and a mother who both serve our country and he learned what an honor it is to be in uniform. He also learned and lived to serve others as he quickly learned with Hannah his “lil' sis”
The Lord our God will bestow a very special blessing on you for the great sacrifice you have been asked to endure. Your son's death will not be in vain. My prayers will be with you along with those of a grateful nation, for the great sacrifice your son made in service to his country and for your wonderful family at this sad and tragic time. The Bible says "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." I believe that God will shed his blessings on you at this time. These are times when our Faith is tested the most, and yet it is Faith that will see us through the sorrow and agony of this tragedy. I know that your faith will keep you strong. Please know that the prayers of so many people are with you and your wonderful family. I hope that you can find some solace in knowing that your loss is shared so deeply. I pray that God gives you the grace to carry on. I know you are both (and Hannah) proud of your son and his ultimate service to his country. God Bless You All. In Deep Faith & Sympathy, Lizette Olson-Ruiz (Sgt,US Army, C co, 5-101st Ft Campbell)
