Denny - I had the good fortune to sit behind you during a production of "Mrs. Robinson" in Beverly Hills about 10 years ago. During the intermission I approached you and you were as nice as could be. I felt as if I had known you my entire life. Thanks for being a gentleman and not dashing my dream of meeting you. Thank you too for your lilting voice; truly the signature of a generation. You will never be forgotten, I can assure you of that. God Bless.

My mom, my grandfather and I used to talk to Mr. Doherty (Denny) when they had their coffee at Meadowvale Town Centre at the Second Cup. I was only a little girl but I remember he and my family sharing a table and talking about the current events. Such a humble man he was! I knew he was somebody famous but I never got into 'The Mamas and the Papas' until I was in my teens. I vaguely remember some conversation about how learning music is good for the mind...perhaps this is part of the reason why I am more apt to learn the guitar. I know his spirit is all around his family and the people who so loved him. I only wish I knew him better. From what my mom and grandpa said, he was a gracious man and it seems that he would chat with anyone. Blessings! -Angela Joyce

For Denny...one-quarter of the 1960s folk-rock group the Mamas and the Papas, known for their soaring harmony on hits like "California Dreamin'" and "Monday, Monday.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

The greats are slowly going. I loved them too. Remember how we would sing these tunes at home in Timmins. They inspired me ti sing. I now have memorized about 100 of Dylan's songs, even the 10 minute ones and I am doing radio commercials, au francais.

RIP Denny. I loved the Mammas & pappas and lived just around the corner from Denny in Mississauga in the early to mid 90's
