Dear Mrs Hauptman,
I am very-very sorry. He was my favorite teacher and the one that challenged me the most. He helped me very much when I was working on my dissertation. I wanted to come to Buffalo to see him before he left but did not make it on time. He will always be dear to me and I will always think of him and remember him, not only because of his work that was exceptional, but for him being a very gentle, sensitive and exceptional human being.
God is for us a refuge and strength, A help that is readily to be found during distresses...Psalm 46:1
We have lost a great friend and the world has lost a great man.

Dear Mrs. Hauptman,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Dr. Hauptman. I was fortunate to meet him and hear him speak at several x-ray crystallography conferences in the early 1980's.
His curiosity and perseverance were truly inspirational, and he will be much missed.
With sincerest sympathy,
Sandra Howard
Dear Mrs. Hauptman,
I am truly sorry to learn about the loss of Dr. Hauptman. May he rest in peace.
I had the privilege of first meeting Dr. Hauptman at an x-ray crystallographic conference in 1978.
May God comfort and strengthen you and your family during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
With deepest sympathy and condolences,
