I enlisted because of people like him, because of people who are willing to fight and die for their fellow man. To me, they're worth dying for, because there's a bond between brothers, and that bond transcends blood. Requiescate in pace.

His sacrifice has not gone unnoticed. Michael Monsoor is a hero for all the world to know about and appreciate. His life and unfortunate death are inspiring. Words seem insufficient to recognize him as the most honorable, decent, unselfish, brave man who gave his life to save others. Surely there is a special place in God's realm for him. Rest in peace, Michael Monsoor. As for his family, please accept my deepest sympathy.

As we approach the Anniversary of Mikey's sacrifice, I want to tell you about this man. I served with him in the Military and I can tell you that he was humble and would do just about anything asked of him to help. He was one of the best men I've ever met and although we were merely colleagues, I still mourn his every Memorial Day and September 29th. I try to honor his life and death by remembering his example and trying to emulate it because even when he was faced with some of the least enjoyable aspects of the military, he would face each day and each task with a smile. As you can see in the photo above, he's in the freezing mountains with an enormous pack in a war zone... with a smile on his face. Although it saddened me deeply, It did not surprise me when I heard how he sacrificed himself to save the lives of others. He is greatly missed by those who knew him, and highly respected and honored for his sacrifice by those who did now. Rest in Piece Mikey.

Hi, I was a volunteer at the Bob Hope USO @ LAX for ten years and currently on occasion volunteer at the USO in San Diego. I believe I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Mr. Monsoor there. It is heart breaking to hear that, he is gone. But I know that, he died doing something he loved. He has a grateful nation forever in his debt!

All Powerful God,
We honor today those men and women—
Our sons and daughters,
Husbands and wives,
Fathers, brothers, sisters, mothers—
Who have laid down their life for their country.
Whether weary or emboldened, quiet or defiant,
Vulnerable or ready when You called them home,
Their sacrifice is too humbling for words
except these uttered in prayer.
Loving Lord, bless them forever in Your eternal peace.
Let the sounds of strife, the cries of battle, the wounds of war
be calmed for all eternity in Your loving and endless grace.
Let these great warriors find rest at last,
Ever reminded that we who are left behind
Cherish their spirit, honor their commitment,
send them our love,
and will never forget the service that they gave.

O God, Who brings an end to wars and defeats the assailants of those who hope in Thee, help us when we turn to Thee, and grant us that the cruelty of our enemies may be crushed, and we, in turn, may praise Thee in unending Thanksgiving. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

I don't really know how to say what I am trying to say but there is something so humbling about hearing the story of a young man with everything going for him would so willingly lay down his life for his teammates. I will never let anyone who knows me ever forget the loss of the many SEALs who go and do what no one else will do. I will never forget the Mikes, Monsoor and Murphy. Thanks.

Father of Truth, behold Your Son, a sacrifice pleasing to You. Accept this offering of Him who died for me; behold His blood shed on Golgotha for my salvation. It pleads for me. For His sake, accept my offering. Many are my sins, but greater is Your mercy. When placed on a scale, Your mercy prevails over the weight of the mountains known only to You. Consider the sin and consider the atonement; the atonement is greater and exceeds the sin. Your beloved Son sustained the nails and the lance because of my sins so in His sufferings You are satisfied and I live.
Glory be to the Father who sent His Son for us.
Adoration be to the Son who has freed us and ensured our salvation.
Blessed be he who by his love has given life to all.
To him be the glory.

I wish I had known Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor. I grieve with family and friends even though time has passed and I claim every one of our soldiers as a son or daughter to all Americans and myself. We are so very proud of Michael and his heroism and sacrifice for the life and freedom of us all. We will remember you Michael. And I will pray for your family and friends until my last breath is taken on this earth. To each one left here, God bless you and as you have found already, you will find great comfort in thinking of all the great times you had with Michael as you shared in his life. A great gift from God was to design us so we can "think back" on a moment and replay the experience in living color, seeing faces and smiles and hearing voices and every word that was spoken. Think of Michael, see his smile, hear his laughter again and hear his voice and his words through your precious memories stored up within you. God bless you Michael. Thanks for what you accomplished in your life and in the giving of it. We will never forget. Now rest in peace son.

To Mike's family and all who have lost loved ones. You will be with your loved ones again through the glory of God. I know this because when I was ten years old, I slipped off a styrofoam float in a lake and drowned but the neighbor (a military wife and mother) brought me back to this life. I was upset she brought me back, I wanted to keep going towards God and all his glory. Obviously, God had other plans for me. Jesus Christ will take all your pain away and you will be with your loved ones again forever in the presence of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. God bless you all and thank you Mike for being an Angel of God.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Hey Mike,
Just checkin in.
I leave for Boot this Tuesday the 30th. The only thing left on my desk at work are a few note pads and your picture, framed next to my iMac.
Wish I could tell you where I work 'cause they're being really cool to me, helping me with some money issues while I go show Great Lakes what a 39-year-old can do. Gotta remain tight-lipped about that though. It's what the CEO requested.
Taken a while to get to this point 'cause of my age. Met my recruiter at the SEAL Fitness Challenge at UCLA in February. My PST scores are well above the minimums, but I'm not Phelps or anything. Navy was kinda trippin on someone my age wanting in. Then I'd go up against guys half my age and destroyed 'em. Ha ha!
If I can't secure an age waiver to BUD/S, so be it. I'll be the best Master at Arms I can be, and I will continue honoring your memory for the rest of my days.
Your story changed me forever. Just told a lady at work today, "When you think your day is tough, walk by my desk and look at Mike. Then go back to your desk and suck it up."
Life is so funny, eh? I read your story, started training heavily, identified a guy on my team at work to promote and take care of things while I'm gone, made his promotion official yesterday, packed my things today, and am now chillin with my woman here in Fullerton until MEPS on Monday and then LAX on Tuesday.
God Bless You, Mike. Gonna try my hardest to make you proud.

I was so touched by the tribute to Michael at the Republican National Convention. I understand that his grandma Bonnie (Veronica) Foley and my mom Donna Garvey were first cousins and lived together for awhile in Prairie du Chien and LaCrosse, Wisconsin until George took her to California to marry. The United States are in deep debt to all of her fallen and still fighting soldiers but some of them deserve to be remembered more than others and of those that have been awarded there share of medals and eventhose who have gotten one of the few Medals of Honor have to respect some of the heroic things that Michael Monsoor did. The reason for this is because he committed himself to doing what most people could even start hope to be able to do when it came time to have to be selfish or to be noble and put yourself in the line of fire for your brothers to be able to go home and see their families again even though it may mean that you will never see your family and your friends ever again, as long as you made sure that someone else can.
Michael Monsoor is living proof that there are still noble men out there and that some of us have the ability to make the decision that will end the best, maybe not for our selves but at least for another person that may not have a chance to get out of harms way. The thing with what he did wasn’t that he chose to give up his own life but that he chose to save others lives and that is what makes him a hero in my heart and undoubtedly in everyone in Americas heart he is the hero that every kid should look up to and try to live there lives fuller because that is why he made that ultimate sacrifice so that others can live the life he believed he was fighting to protect.

To Michael's Family,
How proud you must be for what your son did, he obviously was an incredible person. I know that getting the medal of honor is special, but it doesn't take away the pain, or fill the hole in your heart. You must be incredible parents to raise a child like Michael. I am so greatful for him, he died fighting for freedom, and he never thought twice about what to do. My prayers are with your family, I hope that the pride you feel helps some. Thank you for showing me that there are wonderful people still in this world. God Bless.

Many thanks to the Michael and the Monsoor family for their service to our country. Michael is a true American hero. I pray my son will grow up to be just like him. He is someone all American's should want their sons and daughters to be like.

I wish to send my heartfelt sympathy to your family. Mere words cannot do your son justice, but God can and is honoring him in ways we cannot fathom. John 15:13 says, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." You are in my prayers. Kay

Mr. and Mrs. Monsoor,
I saw you standing there with President Bush and I started to feel all kinds of emotions, but to look at the peace that showed on your faces is so amazing. I thank your son and all the men and women that fight for our freedom. May you continue to walk in the peace that God has given you.

To the family of Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Monsoor. God bless you all for your sacrifice. I watched the CBS Evening News this evening and saw Michael was awarded with the well deserved medal of honor for his great act of bravery.I cried thinking of this brave young warrior and it reminded me of my 20 year old brother (Lcpl Daniel B. Chaires USMC) who was killed in Al Anbar Province in October 2006. To those who say we have no heros left, I say WE DO! Just read Michael's story. Truely an earthly loss but a heavenly gain. God bless you all, and God bless America. Your in our prayers.

For the Mother of Michael Monsoor,
I just heard what your Son did for his fellow comrades and his country. You don't know me or my family but I know the ache that you feel. The pain that is with you every day. I to have lost my Son SGT Benjamin Portell on December 26th 2007 in Mosuel Iraq.
The ache goes very deep and doesn't leave your soul. My Son did something very simular, he put himself in harms way to save his buddies. Thats who Ben was. Your Son had the same character as mine. Those two men are now in heaven getting to know each other.
I am not going to say that I am sorry because you are probably tired of that by now, I just want you to know I am here if you need to talk to another mother that has lost her Son to. Our Sons were so brave and didn't think they just did what they needed to do. My heart goes out to you and your family. I will be praying for your family.
Guardian Angel - Mom and Dad I will watch over you.

May you be Blessed in the knowledge of the love your son had for his fellow comrades. You taught him well. I know that fact he won the Medal of Honor is no consolation for his loss, but know he was a real HERO in the eyes of the parents of the men he saved. RIP Michael.
Most Sincerely,
Gloria

I cried for so long after hearing and reading about your son Michael. What a true hero. I know that there are many heroes in this and every war, but hearing his story and seeing his pictures reminds me of how courageous our young people are. What a real man, friend, and American. I know you are missing him very much.

We hear the word "hero" a lot today, and while I can say at times it may not be right to use it in many situations, I believe the greatest use of the word is when someone lays their life on the line for a greater cause than their own life.
Please accept our most sincerest sympathy on the loss of your son, and my brother in arms.

I briefly served with Michael at NAS Sigonella, IT. He was always motivated to do his job. He was part of a group of guys that strongly believed in the saying "we work hard and play even harder". That is how I remember him. He was somebody who believed in working and fighting for his country and yet in the same sentence never let a friend down when they wanted to hang out. He is missed by all.

I have only become familiar with Michael's story with the news of his receiving the Medal of Honor today.
His brave actions started with his willingness to join the Service for our protection. I thank him and his Family for their courage and honor as Americans. It is only because of fine people like Michael that we have the opportunity to offer our children a decent and free life. I hope that we will all take a moment to reflect on the quality person that Michael was, and try to do better ourselves as Americans for the sake of his sacrifice. God Bless Michael and his Family.
