Carmela Attanasio, 85, passed away on Saturday, March 29th with her family by her side. She was born in Naples, Italy on October 18, 1928, daughter of the late Ralph and Maria (Contisano) Attanasio. She immigrated to the United States in 1955 and lived in New Britain with her late sister Angela Montanile and brother-in-law Anthony until 2008 when she moved to Berlin to live with her niece Maryanne Zaccagnino and husband Richard. She retired from Fafnir Bearing after 30 years. She was a loving and caring sister, aunt, grand aunt and great-grand aunt. She was affectionately known as "Auntie Minny" to many generations of family and friends. One never went hungry when Auntie Minny was at the table, and second helpings were required. Carmela leaves to mourn her devoted and loving family; sister Ida Attanasio of Naples, Italy; niece Maryanne and husband Richard Zaccagnino, nephew Sam Montanile and wife Christine, all of Berlin; her grand niece Lisa Nightingale and husband Ryan, grand niece Katie Mangiafico and husband Sebastian and grand nephew Eric Montanile and Jeremy Iben; and great grand nephew Vincent Mangiafico, who brought her so much joy. In addition to her parents, Ralph and Maria and sister and brother-in-law Angela and Anthony, Carmela was predeceased by her step-mother Nina. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Gaylord Hospital for the exceptional care and kindness extended to Carmela. Because of her love of children, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April, 3, 2014, at St. Ann Church, 47 Clark St. New Britain. She will be lovingly laid to rest beside her sister in St. Mary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St. New Britain prior to her service. What a wonderful, sweet and fun woman. I will miss seeing her around when visiting the Zaccagnino family.
