Dearest Family,
I had the privilege of being taught by Dr. Powell in clinical supervision. He approached this field with great dignity and humility. He will be greatly missed~
November 22, 2013
We know much will be said about David Powell's contributions to the field of Substance Abuse treatment field, especially in the area of clinical supervision. We would like to add that this kind, gentle, brilliant, man's contributions to the men and women of the US Navy and Marine Corps continues today with the use of his Blended Model for clinical supervision via the Clinical Preceptorship Program. I will always remember his deep respect for military members and his fondness for the counselors who provided them treatment. He selected a wonderful group of preceptors, who responded to his energy and commitment by providing invaluable training to Navy and Marine counselors for over 35 years. These counselors became some of the best providers in the nation. We have all benefitted from his presentations which were enlightening and full of humor.
He was a great mentor, friend, and family man. In his last years he took his love and compassion for others to those suffering in many different parts of the world. He touched so many and he will be missed by so many. Fair winds and following seas and a heart-felt Semper Fi from all who knew you and from those who did not but recovered because of the work you did.

Dear Barbara and family,
My deepest sympathy goes out to you at this sad time. I feel so fortunate to have know David and all the wonderful tributes he has done for different countries and their people.
I have purchased "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" in memory of David...the OSA choir will be singing this anthem on Sunday, November 24th.
You are in my heart and prayers.

Dear Barbara, Heather, Kirstin,
Words cannot describe how profoundly saddened we are to hear of the loss of David. Despite knowing of some of his amazing accomplishments, we are astounded to learn of the breadth of his endeavors. Despite that David spent his life's work helping others to address some of the world's most difficult challenges, he had an impressive ability to always bring lightness and laughter to the Lake that we will never forget. The girls are deeply saddened, and upon hearing the news, immediately focused on David's gift of books during one of our recent Lake visits. They will cherish those books. We will all cherish David's memory. And those few leftover "special sparklers from Dave and Barbara" will be lit in fitting tribute at an appropriate time. Please know that our most sincere thoughts and prayers are with each of you. All our love and sympathy, Valerie, Ray, Audrey, Mallory Sickles
