To the Gordan family,

I just recently learned of Butch's passing. I was a young employee of his at Manchester motor car, as a teenager. I grew up without a father in my life and was always obsessed with classic cars from a young age. I remember begging my mother to take me down to MMC when it first opened. I was about 12 and the shop was like a dream to me!

I will never forget that first time there, Butch walked out and talked to me like I was an adult, like I was just another car guy! I felt 10 feet tall! He promised that when I turned 14 he would give me a job at the shop, and boy for the next 2 years I would visit often and never let him forget his offer!

Having started my major in the auto shop at cheney tech high school, I started my very first job the week I turned 14. That summer Butch would pick me and the other boy Jonathon up each morning in his white Lincoln and we would spend our days doing whatever was needed around the shop. I needed that Jon more than anything in my life that summer between freshman and sophomore year! I kept that the job until I was out of highschool, even using it as my High school internship.

Butch taught me so much more than the value of hard work! He taught me character, and in more ways than not how to become a good man. He treated me like I was his own son and I don't think he ever knew the impact he had on my life!

I saw him in the bank last fall, and although we made small talk about how I was now working on the fire department in town and raising kids of my own it was too short a visit. As I drove home from the bank I wished I had told him that he was important to my success and how much that meant to me but I dint want to get mushy on tough old Butch, so like so many time in life, things went unsaid....The next time I see him I said to myself. Well the next time never came and I didn't get a chance to say my respects so I will tell them to you.

There isn't a single time I don't drive by the dialysis building on main street and think of hime and all the good memories I had there, and Im sure there were so many more people effected by Butch the way I was. He was a great man, and I wish I could have told him so!

I hope you his family are doing well and are warmed by knowing that there is another young person out there who your Family man had a hand in raising up into society.

Thankyou
Sincerely,
Matthew Carter of Manchester
