Eileen E. (Kennedy) Lockwood, beloved wife of the late John C. Lockwood, of Vernon, formerly of South Windsor, died peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at her home. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Walter and Harriet (Mullin) Kennedy. Eileen was a graduate of Ft. Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY. Eileen was married to John C. Lockwood on June 9, 1956 and together they settled in Vernon, where they raised a family until John's death in 1991. Eileen began working for the Hartford National Bank and retired from Bank of America in 1990 after many years of service. Eileen was an active member of the Vernon and South Windsor Senior Centers, where she enjoyed cards, bingo and bus trips. She was a member of the 5th Wheel Club, a social club in Vernon where she met many dear friends. Eileen was a loving, caring and devoted mother, proud grandmother and was known for her beautiful Irish smile and wit. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves her children, John Lockwood and his wife Robin of Vernon, Patricia Sicord of South Windsor and Susan Cannone and her husband Peter of Windham, NH; her siblings, Louis Kennedy and his wife Eileen of Basking Ridge, NJ and Rosemary Lane of New York, NY and her 9 grandchildren: Gregory and wife Kayla, Jeff Lockwood; Jimmy, Kelly, and Erin Sicord; Brian, Christie, Matt and Danny Cannone. She was predeceased by her beloved brothers Blake and Walter Kennedy. Family and friends may gather on Thursday, May 15, 9 a.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Windsor. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses and Health Services of Connecticut, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066 and/or American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Ctr., Rocky Hill, CT 06067. We are so sorry to hear this news, and to be late on this condolence. Mrs. Lockwood was so nice to us girls when we used to visit at the old house in Vernon and swim in the backyard pool. Patti, you did the best you could for her, and now she is in a better place with your Dad.
