For God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work and the love you showed for his name by ministering and continuing to minister to the holy ones (Hebrews 6:10). Mary will never be forgotten for all the work she did for her community and especially those sweat little ones in her care. May God continue to strengthen your family in these “times hard to deal with” (2Tim 3:1), especially without a beloved one such as Mary Sherlach.
December 14, 2013
Thank you Mary for your bravery. You are truly an Angel. You will forever be in my thoughts and prayers.

How Christ like,Her actions were. When Jesus was on the earth, everything He did as the messiah was for others, even coming to the earth was for the sake of mankind(John 3:16).May you the family find peace. FWJ Jr.

‘Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to persons like them.' Then Jesus takes the children in his arms, and blesses them. (Mt 19:13-15) Isn't it good to know that Jesus loves little children?
We must continue to cherish our little ones like Jesus before tragedy takes them away.

Somehow I've known that Mary was a Very Special Person in my own mind that goes clear back to the Sixth Grade of Parochial School. With me not realizing that it was Mary that was involved in the Sandy Hook Tragedy; and not really knowing because I hadn't seen the mentioning Her Maiden name has crushed me. My thoughts also goes out to Dennis, and all of Her Family now and till the end of time. I bare such sorrow knowing that Mary truly was a wonderful human being; someone that you could Truely Love and Respect! I hope to meet up with Her once again.

In Memory of Mary Sherlach
February 11, 2013

It takes someone very special to understand the problems of a child
Someone like Mary Sherlach whose manner with them was ever so mild.

She watched each child who crossed her path
An abused one brought on her personal wrath.

To help them cope with everyday strife
To protect them from the forces of evil was her life.

She loved each Sandy Hook child as if they were her own
To carry their heart-felt burdens she was prone.

The proof is there when she gave her life trying to protect these precious gems
It only befitting that she enters the gates of heaven with them.

With Jesus sitting there smiling with His arms open wide
Saying, "Welcome Mary, you're home now, so come on inside".

So the life of Mary Sherlach let us celebrate
The woman who had the ability, with all classes of people, to communicate.

Through her family and friends her memory will live on as will her spirit and character
And through them she will be remembered from now ‘til ever after.

So let me leave you with one last thought
To help cope when feeling lonely and distraught.

It's okay to weep for Mary whom you loved so much
It's okay to need to see her smile and yearn for her loving touch.

It's okay to show anger and shed a river of tears
It's all part of the healing process to help cope with the loneliness and fears.

So bow your head in the most earnest prayer and say
Thank you dear God, ‘ere the time be so short, for sending her my way.”

I'm at a loss for words and felt that this was the only way that I could fully express myself. My heart is particularly heavy this Christmas Eve and I ache for each of these beautiful children, the teachers and faculty who lost their lives trying to protect them, and their families for not being able to spend it together this year. Rest in Peace Mary and may God bless all of you.

Bill:
I'm sorry that I can't be there for you and your family.
Mary was one of the mutitude of everyday heros, they rarely get recognition but make a difference. Your wife helped children and families. That's heroic. According to St Francis, there is not greater gift that to give your life to a friend. Mary went beyond that in giving her life to strangers. A greater hero in my mind who dies a hero's death.
God bless you all!

December 20, 2012
To family and friends of Mary,

Anguished Hearts Don't Despair

A parent's worst nightmare
became your reality this day.
Feelings of unimaginable despair;
so many unanswered questions …

Why my child?
Did God need another angel?
If so, how unloving it would be of him
to take our cherished one, our joy!

So many unfulfilled dreams,
plans for the future; tomorrows gone.
Lives changed forever by the loss
of one so dear, so tender, so young.

Death leaves such emptiness of heart,
regrets of not giving that last hug;
feeling the warmth and tenderness of a kiss;
saying: “I love you” just one more time!

Have hope! He has promised an end to such sadness.
He hears the prayers of the brokenhearted one.
He will actually swallow up death forever,
And He will certainly wipe the tears from all faces!

Memories cherished and faith in a better future,
Will help one cope with the pain of today.
A promised paradise when all will be reunited
with dear, loved ones. Life without end at last!

We bereaved are not alone.
We belong to the largest company in all the world, the company of those who have known suffering.
When it seems that our sorrow is too great to be borne, let us think of the great family of the heavy hearted into which our grief has given us entrance, and inevitably, we will feel about us their arms, their sympathy, their understanding.
Believe, when you are most unhappy, that there is something for you to do in the world.
So long as you can sweeten another's pain, life is not in vain.
Helen Keller

I knew Mary when we were in grade school at Our Lady of Sorrows in Vestal. She was one of my closest friends in 4,5,6 grades. When I saw her picture I could see her as the girl she used to be. My heart is broken for all of you. However it does not surprise me that she would have put herself in harms way to help another. She always had a big heart and was there for the underdog. I see her in heaven and know she is now your guardian angel.

December 16, 2012
you are all too young to have been taken away

those you left behind will have to stay

and think of the day you had to die

and become angels in the sky.

never a first kiss, a graduation or marriage you will share

it is all useless and is so unfair!

the horrific tragedy touched the hearts of those far and near

so many strangers had shed many tears

for the lives of children and adults were selfishly taken away

on what was supposed to be a typical day.

Heros were born that very sad day

some managed to live, while others were taken away

no matter where we where at the time

it will forever be a memory in our mind

a piece of heart was destroyed for each and every family

but somehow taught us to love freely and gratefully

there are many extra angels watching over us now

saying it's ok to move foward somehow
December 16, 2012

What an amazing woman and what a legacy. We grieve for your loss. She obviously blessed so many people and selflessly sacrificed herself without hesitation when her children were threatened. Our nations have been rocked by the evil but comforted & challenged by seeing the courage and bravery of these beautiful women. Beauty out of ashes. May The Father give you peace and hope in the time to come. May you be blessed with many precious memories! Love & prayers.

Mary, for your courageousness and love towards the care of children, you are a hero. It is people like you that make us parents happy to know we live our children in your care for the time we can not be there with them, we have caring heroes that take care of that for us. I am so sorry for your loss. As I have been crying for your loss, please note that she was very heroic in this tragedy. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this time.

As Mary's Special Educator at SHS until 1999, I remember her as efficient, reliable, and a great meeting leader. I remember her multicolored, highlighted calendar which identified school commitments, home commitments and those chores her husband would do. She was beautiful, fun and professionally dressed as well. And she was very proud of her smart, talented daughters. I send condolences to her family from my shocked and grieving heart.

Our daughter is a school counselor, so I see first hand how much she guides children. Your loss will be felt by many for years to come. There is nothing to ease your pain but know that many who have been helped by Mary will always remember her with grateful hearts that she was a part of their lives. God give you comfort at this time.
