Steve was a wonderful man to know, both for his kindness and his sense of humor. Many nights he sat outside my package store around closing time, to ensure that I would be safe. He represented the town with dignity and honor. What a loss for us all.
Since the early 70's when we first became friends, Steve has always managed to track me down by phone wherever I have lived, just to say "hello" and catch up on each others lives. This time I tried to find Steve, but instead found that a good friend had passed. I will miss his voice at the other end of the line and his enduring friendship. My condolences to you, Judi, and the entire Batchelder family.
We are so sorry to here about Steve. Please know you are in out thoughts and prayers. Jeff and Sally Wassell

Tito and I grew up together as neighbors and best friends in the then rural town of Lemon Grove, CA. Roaming the fields, building tree forts--good times. You will be missed.
