To the family and friends of Sgt. Steven Deluzio:
Remembering Steven on the anniversary of his passing. May our fallen heroes never be forgotten.
May 27, 2011
It just occurred to me that I do patriotic paintings and should offer... It;s just that I hate, above all, ANY exploitation of grieving, having been grieved and exploited myself once.

My art has been to the White House and this page shares some of my patriotic things...just scroll down http://www.ellefagan.com/patriotsite/index.html

Later, if you like I can make something for you. And you are welcome to make prints from any of the images at the site. We will NEVER be good enough for these heroes ! God bless America and guide us better always!
May 26, 2011
My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
Steve will always be remembered and he, along with all of you, will forever be a part of the 3-172 Mountain Infantry Family!

To the family of Sgt. Steven Deluzio:
Steven gave the ultimate sacrifice and will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not let our fallen heroes be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you. "Some gave all."

Heartfelt Gratitude

Dear Friends and Neighbors of SGT Steven DeLuzio,

It is with such great pride that we want to thank the greater Glastonbury community for the outpouring of support shown to our family during the most difficult time in our lives. The names and faces of all those who attended Steven’s services may fade over time but the swell of pride knowing that he was so admired will be a treasure forever. Those of you who were holding flags, homemade signs, and banners along the funeral procession brought tears to our eyes but also comfort in the knowledge that one life matters not only to the family and friends but to our country. There is no way that we can mention all of those who have shown their support and perhaps we shouldn’t even try but we would feel remiss if we didn’t publicly mention a few groups who were so supportive. As you know, we lost our precious son but we have been comforted by the love shown by his GHS friends, JH Cohn family, Glastonbury Little League, Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s office, the friends of GHS hockey, St. Paul and St. Dunstan Churches, CT State Police, Glastonbury Police Department, Patriot Riders, CT Fire Departments, and the Vermont and Connecticut Armed Services Personnel. Eventually, we hope to acknowledge each and every one with a personal note but wanted the community to know that your support will always be remembered. We have come to understand that Steven has left a lasting impression on children and adults alike through his dedication to causes greater than himself. Please know that we believe Steven’s blessing for us is to remain inspired by his actions and to continue his legacy of giving back to the community unselfishly so that his spirit will live on forever. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us all to remember that Steven touched so many lives in such a positive way in his all too short life. We will continue to remember his spirit and zest for life through those lives that he has touched.

Sincerely,

The DeLuzio Family

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Steven will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I never met this young man but want to say thank you for all his dedication to our country to keep us safe. god bless you and your family rest in peace.
September 03, 2010
A few years ago, I had a single nickel-sized charm attached to a gold chain bracelet I’ve worn for many more. Engraved on the charm is “ARMY SGT. FELIX M. DELGRECO 04-09-2004”. A member of the Connecticut National Guard, he grew up in the town where we’ve raised our son, and though I’d never met him, I learned he was someone who all his life had made those around him all the richer for his presence.

From time to time, someone will comment on what a lovely bracelet I’m wearing and it gives me the opportunity to say his name and to share a few words about the life and the sacrifice of this young man and his family. I was raised in Glastonbury and graduated from the High School in 1976. Last Friday, I brought my bracelet back to the jeweler and asked to have “ARMY SGT. STEVEN J. DELUZIO 08-22-2010” engraved on the other side of the charm.

I’ve read the outpouring of love and respect offered by others here, trying to learn something of who he was and the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind. Throughout my life, when someone mentions my bracelet, I will speak his name as well, welcoming the opportunity to share a few words about the life and the sacrifice of this beloved young man and his family.

We offer our deepest respect and sympathy, and we mourn his loss with you,

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms Sgt. Steven Deluzio. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Steven. And to Steven it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Steven, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Steven’s family and loved ones.

This has made my desire to deploy again even stronger. Friends and family think I'm crazy to want to go back. It's not something I would expect them to understand. Only my fellow brothers and sisters would get it. We all have an unspoken bond and understanding for eachother. You gave the ultimate sacrifice and because of you everyone back home can rest easy at night while they sleep. My favorite quote is "Jesus died for our sins, troops die for our freedom." RIP brother.

Dear Mark, Diane and family

I am so sorry for your loss. Steven sounds like a remarkable person. Even though our family is not that close, I think of you often and the times we had at the picnics at your mom and dad's house in New Britain. Steven was just a small child then. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Deluzio Family,

As a member of a Gold Star family, I understand what a difficult time this is for you. There no no words that can heal, and while time does help, it does not remove your loss. There are many Angels that are yet to be met, special people that will come in to your life. The Gold Star family is a special family. It's a family that no one wants to belong, but it's a family that is full of compassion. May you be blessed with love from the many people who care about you, and the kindness of strangers.

A DeLuzio has fallen...Our prayers are with you on this sad day. We have 2 DeLuzio sons in the Air Force and have always feared for their safety over there in the war. Deluzio and Family,
What an incredible son and brother you have raised. I had the priviledge, as did so many others, to have known such a powerful person as Steve. Whether is was gym class in middle school or sleep overs on the weekend to Creed or Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts at The Meadows, Steve was always, ALWAYS a leader and someone we all looked up to. He always did the right thing and was a person you could truely count on. Steve was a person who could pick you up if you were having a bad day at school and you could talk to about anything. Overall, what an awesome, awesome kid you guys raised. Your family is always in my heart. God bless you all.
August 30, 2010
To the family and friends of Sgt. Steven Deluzio, though I did not know Steven, my husband and I attended his Funeral Mass this morning for four reasons. 1 - I am a Roman Catholic which made Steven part of my faith family; 2 - I wanted to offer my thanks to Steven for his selfless patriotism; 3 - My daughter has served in the military since 9/11, and has been to Iraq twice, so I attended in her absence from CT; 4 - I am a parent, and grieve with Steven's parents in the loss of their child. Like Mary, your hearts have been 'pierced by sorrow' (Luke 2:35); a very sad thing for any parent to endure. It was a very beautiful Mass; the words from the Readings and the Clergy in this time of great sadness were comforting and reminded me of why I love and rely on my faith so much. The Cantor did a very hard and beautiful thing. Steven was his first cousin, I heard yesterday at Mass. Kevin's voice was given by God, and I know Steven looked down, proudly. To Mr. and Mrs Deluzio, Scott and Leeza, and Steven's family, my very sincerest sympathy - may God hold you in the Palm of His Hand and shower you with His love and comfort, just like He is to Steven right now. To Steven's many friends and to the kids he coached, my love and prayers for you all, always.
August 30, 2010
Thank you does not say it, words cannot express feelings. You will not be forgotten. Thank you to your family, and wife to be, their sacrfices now live on in their hearts as you will forever.
August 30, 2010
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Deluzio family and his Fiancee, on the loss of their loved one. Steven is a hero in all the eyes of America. Thank you Steven for your service. I pray that God's beautiful eternal light will shine upon you, and bring you the peace you truely deserve.
May God bless his family and all his loved ones. I will surley remember you in my prayers.
August 30, 2010
Rest in peace.
August 30, 2010
Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.
August 30, 2010
Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice.

May the strength and love of family and friends help you through this diffult time.
I found this quote and thought it fit's Steven to a tee.

"But the bravest are surely those "
who have the clearest vision of
what is before them, glory and
danger alike, and yet notwith-
standing go out to meet it.
-Thucydides-

Diane, Mark, Scott & Family, and Leeza,

I have a daughter Steven's age, and I just cannot comprehend what you all must be going through. I hope your memories, love and pride for Steven will help you get through the difficult days that lay ahead of you. And to Steven: Thank You for your ultimate sacrifice for our great country and all that you accomplished in your short time on this Earth. Peace be with you all. I met Steven the season that he and his two friends Zach Tracey and Tim Munsie coached our Little League team all the way to the town championship. The season was a testament from a parent's perspective for the power of friendship. They modelled winners and showed all of us what a winner is made of--support, humor, perseverance, care, and believing in each other. Their contribution to our lives is one of our enhanced menories!

I did not know Steven DeLuzio but I went to Glastonbury High School today to say my goodbye and to thank him. I pulled into the High School and saw a large gathering in front of the school. I joined them but did not realize he had already passed through. I waited for almost 30 minutes before I found out. Even though he had come through earlier the crowd lingered with respect and sorrow. As a parent, my heart goes out to his parents and family. As a mother of 2 daughters (one of which went to school with Leeza) my heart goes out to Leeza and her parents. My prayers and that of the Glastonbury community are with you.
August 28, 2010
Dear Mark, Diane, Scott, Victoria & Leeza,

Words cannot express how very sorry we are for your loss. We have such fond memories of Steven growing up. When we moved to "Minnechaug" in 1995, Steven soon became Trey's best friend. Both Trey and Nick loved hanging out at your home with Steve, Scott & Mugsy...Although we seemed to have lost touch over the years, the memories are still there and Steven will forever be in our hearts. God bless all of you and most of all Steven for his bravery and heroism.

With deepest sympathy,
Ken, Tricia, Trey & Nick Martino

August 28, 2010
My thoughts and prayers sincerely extend to all of Steve's good friends, and family. Although I may not have been the closest with him, I grew up with him. Being in the same class, we advanced through school side by side. I am so proud, and thankful to have known such a genuinely great person, who literally gave his life protecting, and serving for the greater good... Volunteering to do so nonetheless!! As hard as it may seem, and is always easier said than done, we have to remember that God never gives us more than we can handle & as hard as it is to understand, it was His plan. One thing fore sure; I truly believe that Steve will live out an extremely blissful eternity, in direct relation with his short life, here on earth, that he so obviously lived honestly, considerate and kind-hearted. Again, my prayers are with his close friends, and family....
August 28, 2010
My sympathies go out to the families and friends affected by this tragedy. He was a classmate, a friend, a son, a brother, a fiance', and most importantly a hero. My boyfriend (a military man who has also served in Afghanistan) and I send our condolences and our love. My daily prayers go out to his family, Leeza & her family, and everyone who's lives he had touched. I remember him as a classmate and a hero -- ALWAYS.
With my love and sympathy...

Our firm was lucky enough to know Steve for a short time. He had such a positive and lasting impact on everyone he met. Steve was one of those rare individuals who you could not help liking, and you knew when you met him that he was a person of substance. He had a deep faith in God and country. He was one of the most courageous young men I have ever met. We are going to miss him terribly.

There is a national campaign called Red Shirt Fridays (redshirtfridays.org) organized to show support for our troops. On Friday, August 27th, we honored Steve throughout all of our offices by wearing red and collecting donations toward a fund to honor his memory. The overwhelming participation throughout our offices clearly reflects the impact Steve had on our organization.

Fif-I'm so glad that you were my brother in law.You welcomed me into the family so warmly I felt like I was your sister. You were an awesome uncle and Godfather, and I have so many great memories of you. I wish I got to know you better. I was looking forward to having our families spend time together in the future, and for you to go out and teach Munch lots of stuff that I didn't want him to learn. Lol. Know that I (and we) will take good care of Scott, Leeza, Munch, your mom and dad, and your whole family. Your fight will not be forgotten; your memory will live on. Mrs. Deluzio & Family. My heartfelt condolences for the loss of your son. I did not have the pleasure of meeting him although I worked at the same company (JHCohn) but in a different office (NY). From what I have read and heard, he was an exceptional young man. May you find the strength throughout this terrible time. It is one of the hardest things in life that a mother can go through (I have been through this myself) and only time will heal, but with the love and support of family and friends you are able to go on. I will keep Steven in my prayers and in my heart forever.
August 27, 2010
Dear Deluzio Family, I had the privilege of knowing Steve during his hockey years at GHS, Joe and I drove the boys bus to games and practices, through the wins and losses, the laughs and the "bus" stories are what I will always remember, and when I'd sit in the stands, parents would ask me, which one is your son?? My answer is always, they are all my adopted sons, I cheer for them all, and I feel as if I've lost one of my own now.
My son Jeff who graduated with Steve is also Active Military and is preparing for deployment soon.
The pain of Loving our soldiers transcends any that I have known, And now I feel you are all my family as we know the Pain of war.
August 27, 2010
To the family and friends of Sgt. DeLuzio, your sacrifice and hurt stays with you all your life, and no one can take that away from you. Steven,
A mother's worst nightmare happened. I always wanted to protect you and Scott but you were a fearless and independent soul. You were a passionate person and loved a challenge. It is selfish of me to ask more of you but help me from above to get through this. I will remember all the joy that you have given this family. My heart is so broken right now and I need another Stevie squeeze. I will pray for your guidance and strength from above for I surely know that heaven is a happier place with you onboard. I cannot imagine life without you in it. We all love you so much and miss you. Please be at peace knowing that you have touched so many lives in such a positive way. I cannot understand God's plan to allow us to enjoy you for such a short time but may God's will be done. Love, Mom

You were the best friend a guy could ever ask for. I think back on all of the memories we've shared... everything from our little league teams to the countless nights out in the Heartbeat to the nights that Cait and Leez convinced us that we should take a night off and just go to the Diamond - every time we spent together was a great one. Ill always consider you a brother, and just like I promised you - I'll keep looking out for Leeza. I love you buddy, rest easy until I get there..

To the family and friends of SGT DeLuzio-
Please know that you are surrounded by a loving, prayer filled community.

Hold on to what is good,
even if it's a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it's a tree that stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do,
Even if it's a long way from here.
Hold on to your life,
Even if it's easier to let go.
Hold on to my hand,
Even if I've gone away from you.

Dear Mark, Diane, Scott, Victoria, Leeza, and the entire Family of Sgt. Steven DeLuzio,

I’ve never met Sgt. DeLuzio...Steven...but I’ve known and served with men like him! I am a Submarine Vet and currently an active member of the Friends at EB Troop Support Group, so our involvement keeps us current. We try to honor any troop we’re made aware of in whatever way we can to continually remind them...and their families...that we, too, know that Freedom Isn’t Free!!! Generally, that’s through care packages, but I also have, personally, a ministry of remembrance...for friends and family...and would like to consider y’all as such, as I would any fellow warrior, so PLEASE CONTACT ME for formatted versions of the obituary and this Guest book entry!

Our country has lost a brave soldier...a family has lost a brave son, brother, fiancé, friend...HERO...who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom! John 13:35, the Warrior’s Verse, was well met in Steven!!! A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States' for an amount "up to and including his life." We do our best to honor that here!

And...I believe I understand, to some degree, the hole left behind... regardless forewarning...by anyone so loved...or held in such high personal esteem; and so I pray this helps some wee bit...to allow...enable…the grief! Definitely keepin’ y’all in fond prayers that Christ hold you close in this trying time!

When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss…inconsolable…she was my mentor! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?"

I hold eternity with God a precious, hard-won, and cherished prize...but... in the interim, the answer lies below...and believe me...I understand the tears often are not nearly as casual as this implies!

SELFISH TEARS
(I eulogize my beloved mother - March, 1989)

Today we cry...must admit they're selfish tears.
You see...our faith assures your journey's done.
But it's not for you we mourn, at all, my dear;
It's for those of us you've left behind...alone!!!

We share your joy...share your happiness at rest,
Your painful fears now for forever stilled.
You've fought the good fight, passed the final test,
But you've left behind a hole that can't be filled!!!

So, until we each rejoin you some someday,
And, while your memory buoys us through those years,
We'll miss you...but continue on our way,
And, from time to time, we'll cry our selfish tears!!!

Ray Hamilton (c) March 19, 1989

My sincerest condolences...sympathetic prayers,

"Always Ready, Always There"

and freedom has a taste and price, the protected never know."

Dear Deluzio Family,

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic he died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
Abraham Lincoln

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
