I'm very late to offer my condolences, having found out just now about your mom's passing as I searched for a photo of her to use in a powerpoint presentation.
She was my professor at Wesleyan U (twice!), and was essential to me writing my debut YA novel, THE NAMESAKE. I have always thought of her as one of the people without whom I would never have had the courage and belief to write my book.
A wonderful teacher and a brilliant woman, she was so full of humor and amazing experience, that I feel like I always carry her with me into my own classroom.
She will definitely be with me tomorrow as I present a WESeminar at Wesleyan's Homecoming Weekend; I'll make a point of dedicating the presentation to her and her legacy.
