My sister and myself send our condolences to the family at this time. Know that although not in body, in spirit he is always around.

Mrs. Brophy,
I think you know how I feel about Jim. I am not in the position I am today without his love, guidance, and friendship. Thats the truth. Being around Jim always made me feel better and every one of his swimmers will say they were his special kid. A great man will never be judged great by his wealth, fame or wins and championships. He will always be judged by his service to others. James N. Brophy was a great, great man. I will miss him terribly, but he lives in my heart and soul until I see him again.
Love, Harry Bellucci

Dear Mrs. Brophy:

Even though I didn't keep in close contact with Coach Brophy after I graduated, please know that he was a tremendous positive influence in my life. He gave me something I desperately needed in high school--self-confidence. I know it's a little late, but I put up my own little tribute to him on an NHS friend's website:

I know everyone on the NHS boys' and girls' teams over the last several years greatly respected and appreciated all that he did for us, and you have my deepest sympathy.

Mr Brophy would have probably thrown me in the pool if I didn't write something from the heart. My fondest memories are of an amazing comeback Jim architected against East Hartford in 1983, presenting me with a varsity letter for being a team manager and his letters to me in air force basic training. Always the motivator, always the teacher/mentor and always a friend. I am a better man, husband, father and friend from being fortunate enough to have encountered the soul of JNB. My deepest sympathy and prayers to the Brophy family and friends.
