Patti was just showing me how to look to see if the zucchini was ready in her garden and giving me gardening gloves to dig in the dirt. She knew exactly how she wanted things to be and was always able to tell me exactly what she was thinking. No nonsense. No holding back. What a gift. I struggle so much these days with growing up. Patti taught me how to grow with grace. Sorry those lessons had to end so soon. Love ya Patti. I promise to teach my kids now what you taught me. Just don't take yourself so seriously and enjoy the ride! God will take care of you now.

Oh WOW--I never thought I would be stumbling across the obituaries this weekend, and would be reading Patti's name. I knew Patti from elementary thru high school as a classmate--and a fun one at that. She was a livewire, who was always so upbeat and inclusive of anybody around her. Now I stumble for words in your profound loss. My great memories are but a short span, you have volumes no doubt! I am so glad her life reads as joyful and bouyant as I remember her. Thinking of you all.

I have fond memories of growing up on Nichols Ave and my time with Patti and the girls. I think some of that black paint is still on my eye from peeking through the fence.

My thoughts are with the entire Kilbourne family and with Leonilda.

With Love,

Dear Wendy, Mr. and Mrs. Kilbourne and all the sisters, spouse and nieces /nephews.....I am thinking of you all often and so very sad for your loss - although I only met Patti once when we were in high school, I always felt that I knew her through Wendy. She was a warrior in her battle and I so admire her strength and courage - I am thinking of you all and sending prayers, love and healing to you all - xo Lisa Keller

Patti and I met decades ago through her friendship with my sister Ann. To me, she was not just a friend, she was another sister, an extension of my already large family. I am grateful to have known her for so many years. We shared many happy and wonderful memories. I will cherish them forever. My condolences to all those, like me, who were privileged to have known and loved Patti. My life is the better because of her and I will miss her always.

Patti was my sister in law. From the very first time I met her I could tell and knew instantly that she was full of goodness and kindness. She was always cheerful and courageous throughout. Rest in peace gentle soul.

Patti never gave up. I saw her on Sept 20th and she got her fishing pole out of her bedroom and gave a tutorial on fly-fishing. She was looking forward to fishing again. She was a wonderful, kind, patient person. A great lover of nature, birds, and the ocean. I'll always remember her riding the waves at the Outer Banks, fearless and having the time of her life.I remember 4 o'clock on the beach at Kitty Hawk. It was cocktail time, I would have a wine cooler, Patti would have a Corona with lime and she and my sisters and I would watch the pelicans and the sandpipers running from the waves. Or we would just stare at the beauty of the ocean and sky. Those are cherished memories. When I see her in my mind, she is wearing her baseball cap, usually one from Wink's store in Kitty Hawk, N.C. and later her relay cap for cancer. I will miss her tremendously It was a privilege to know her. My deepest sympathy to Nilda and her girls, her parents, sisters and nieces and nephews. I hope you find some comfort in knowing how deeply loved she was. What a special woman she was.
