Elsie Loustalot Walters
Hattiesburg, MS
Elsie Jennie Runnels Loustalot Walters died on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born in Macedonia Community, Forrest County, on December 29, 1917, to John Jacob Runnels and Minnie Odom Runnels. After attending lower grades at Macedonia School, she graduated from Petal High School. Her marriage to Fleetwood Vincent Louistalot, Sr. in 1935 ended in 1970 when he died in a tragic accident. They had four children. In 1974 she married John Kerney (J.K.) Walters who died in 2004.
Mrs. Walters is survived by her four children and their spouses; Barbara Hamilton; Margie Myrick and husband Lewis Sr.; Fleetwood Vincent Loustalot, Jr., and wife Lindsay, all of Hattiesburg; and Diana Loustalot of Jupiter, Florida. Her grandchildren are Jacquelyn Hamilton Linton, Lisa Hamilton Mansilla, and Dana Loustalot Duncan of Louisville, KY; Jonathan C. Hamilton of Washington, D.C.; Melissa Loustalot Levine, Austin, TX; J. Lawson Covington of Denham Springs, LA; and Fleetwood V. Loustalot, III of Atlanta. She also had eight great grandchildren: Austin, Elise, Jessica, and Carter Linton of Louisville, KY; Anna Kate McWhorter and Catalina Mansilla of Louisville, KY; Joaquin and Cayetana Hamilton of Washington, D.C.; Alexa, Jack, and Olivia Levine of Austin, TX; Caroline and Mary Katherine Covington of Denham Springs, LA; Logan and Fleetwood V. Loustalot IV of Atlanta, GA.
As a homemaker, her priorities were God, family, church and travel. Throughout her life, her early commitment to God was evident in her words and actions. Her strong devotion to her church was shown in her leadership roles in teaching Bible study, serving as a prayer warrior, leading mission organizations and activities, and visiting shut-ins and the sick.
Her devotion to her family consumed much of her energy and time through her life. They in turn expressed their appreciation, respect, care, and love through her lifetime.
Mrs. Walters' love of travel, both in the United States and abroad, took her on many exciting trips and cruises. Her bi-annual trips to the Smokey Mountains continued until she could no longer travel.
Memorial gifts may be made to The Loustalot Scholarship Fund established in her honor by her children in 2004 at William Carey University, 498 Tuscan Avenue, WCU Box 141, Hattiesburg, MS 39401.
The family of Mrs. Walters expresses appreciation to the staff of Emeritus Assisted Care of Hattiesburg and to the employees of Bedford Care Center of Hattiesburg for their compassionate care and concern.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg. The service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hulett-Winstead. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg.
