Camille Guething Obituary

GUETHING, CAMILLE GUYTON, born February 4, 1922 passed away peacefully November 24, 2014. A native Miamian, Camille learned early the importance of community, hard work and faith. She possessed a fearless determination to call out and act upon injustice through her deep personal involvement and contributions to philanthropic organizations both local and global. She was successful in assuming responsibilities for her family and community using the basic premise that human nature fundamentally understood the difference between right and wrong. Camille married Theodore Hervey Guething on December 18, 1943. They resided in Birmingham, Michigan, where they raised four children. After receiving her Master degree from University of Michigan, she taught history locally at the college level while maintaining active roles civically while running the family home. Moving back to Miami in the early 70's, Camille began her extensive real estate career, which continued until she retired at 90. She also was active in the community of Key Biscayne. She championed the local Fire and Police Department, as well as management of the Village, and was a regular attendee of Council Meetings. While at Sweet Briar College, she swam competitively and continued her lifelong love of sports well into her '80's. At 70, Camille won the Ladies Golf Championship at Riviera Country Club. Camille loved to travel and meet new people, most of whom became lifelong friends. Her faith in God was Camille's highest priority. She was a member of Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church as well as Old Cutler Presbyterian Church. She believed her faith enabled her to accept the best and the worst, while making her grateful for all her experiences. Camille loved her husband, Ted, who predeceased her 3 years prior. She loved her four children, Ted and Avery who predeceased her and her younger children, Stephanie Giering and Carl Guething. She adored her 4 grandchildren, Teddy, Thomas, Avery and Daniel and two great grand-children, Trent and Justis. Services will be held at Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church 2 PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the Miami Rescue Mission.

Very sorry for your family's loss. It's never easy during times like these. But hold on to the good memories and lean on Jehovah the God of all peace and hope. Jeremiah 29:11
