Charles Kennedy Obituary

Charles E. "Charlie" Kennedy, at the age of 75, of Marathon, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2012 at Baptist Hospital of Miami, Florida. He was the loving and devoted husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Samolik) Kennedy and the son of the late Charles and Edna Kennedy. Charlie was born on April 17, 1937, in Meriden, CT, grew up in Middletown, CT and graduated from the Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1955. He completed studies at the University of Connecticut College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and then joined the CT National Guard, serving during the great flood of 1955. He was employed by The Southern New England Telephone Company where he retired after 31 years of service. Charlie "Tuna" as his fishing buddies called him, had a great passion for the sea and was an avid boater and fisherman; hobbies which he shared and enjoyed with his entire family. He and Betty moved to the Florida Keys to pursue warmer weather, better fishing and enrich the lives of countless new friends. He could always be found puttering around his workshop and yard or helping out friends. He treasured spending time with his family, friends and sharing his life experiences with all. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and his wife Denise, Scott and his wife BJ and Keith and his wife Theresa and eight grandchildren; Shannon Kenney, Krista Kennedy, Ashton Kennedy, Michael Kenney, Colbey Kennedy, Thomas Kennedy, Rebekah Kennedy, Meghan Kennedy and a niece and nephew. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his two sisters, Olive Krupa and Alice Kennedy. In lieu flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to the American Heart Association in Connecticut, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
