David Levine Obituary

LEVINE, DAVID HARRIS, 61, of Miami passed away on 02/14/2007. In Biblical times David was just a man, who overcame insurmountable odds to defeat a terrible giant that threatened his existence. Our David also rose to fight a giant, and won his own battle with courage, dignity and the sheer will of a man who embraced life and made every moment count. No one will forget either David because not only did they fiercely protect those they loved, but they were leaders who inspired us all with their belief that one man can make a difference. David Levine was that kind of man. He set goals and then surpassed them. He knew the finite balance between work and play. He made a life, not a living, choosing wisely and with great care those he took along on the journey. Most important, he remained true to himself and was always accessible and vulnerable to the people he loved. His family and his friends were his dearest and most tangible treasures. David leaves behind his adoring wife, Donna, the first and only love of his life for more than 37 years of marriage, and his precious daughters, Mindi, (Lynn), Tara and Dani. Also surviving are his mother, Doris, brother, Eli and his sister Lesa. His father, Milford, (Sidel) predeceased him. David leaves us with indelible memories of a man with a contented playful smile on his face, a fishing rod or golf club in his hand, and a legacy of resilience, strength, and unmitigated friendship and work ethic. David spent his early years in Washington, D.C., and came to Miami in 1953. He attended the University of Florida where he was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi. He received his B.A. From the University of Miami, graduating with honors in 1967, and received his J.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1970. In 1984, he was a founding partner of the law firm of Levine, Busch, Schnepper and Stein. David has been a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, Workers' Compensation Section since 1970, where he served both as Secretary and President. He has been a member of the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Workers Compensation Section, and is past treasurer and member of the Executive Board of Florida Workers' Advocates, an organization he founded in 1989. He is also a past member and Chairman of the Moot Court Committee of the Florida Workers Compensation Institute. As an adjunct Professor of Law at St. Thomas University School of Law, he enjoyed teaching workers' compensation to aspiring law students. He was one of the first to become a Florida Bar Board Certified Workers' Compensation Attorney. David was a past president of the Friends of 440, Inc. and had served as a Trustee of the organization for numerous years. His name and his memory will always be a blessing. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Avenue, Suite 203, Evanston, IL. 60202, or to the Miami Jewish Home at Douglas Gardens, 5200 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33137. Services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Beth Am, 5950 SW 88 Street, Miami. Interment services will be held at Lakeside Memorial Park immediately thereafter. David,

Eighteen years !

How time flies when you're having... time to think about time itself. Time to mourn your passing. And, time to mourn your absence now.

Speaking of time, it has been 62 years since our friendship began, as freshmen at UF. That friendship lasted up to your passing in 2007, and it continues even today... 18 years after you crossed over.

Who knows when we'll have time to catch up, in the time ahead. But, I look forward to that time, even though I'm not in a particular rush to get there.

Warm regards, dear friend.

David,

Thirteen years... now beginning the 14th ! And, your memory is still as vivid now as it was the last time we spent time together. And, I'm sure the memories of you; your loving family; your Gator, TEP & UM days; and your passion for life will stay with me forever, until I can join you in whatever 'world' you now reside.

With the loving embrace for a 'brother' long gone,

Lee

We extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family in your loss. We knew David for a relatively short time, but wish our relationship could have lasted for years and years. Upon our initial meeting, we could see that David was a wise, loving, and dedicated husband and father. His lofty accomplishments in life will be forever remembered. His love for his family and whole life will never be forgotten.

Dear Mom, TJ, Dani, and Mindi (my loving partner),
I am deeply saddened by the loss of David. He was the heartbeat of Donna, the inspiration of his friends, and the loving, supportive teacher of his three daughters. I feel so honored to have been graciously embraced as a daughter by such a kind, loving, and accepting man. I only wish that I would have been able to have had more time with him to soak up his knowledge of life and the solutions to it's ups and downs. You will always be in my heart, and the impact that you have had on me in these last 4 years will never be forgotten.
Love,
Your 4th daughter,
Lynn

Dave was a true champion for injured workers. Many years ago when I was an adversary, I admired and respected his ardor and creativity, as well as his civility. In later years I recognized him as a statesman for a perspective I came to embrace.
My family and I offer his loved ones our deepest sympathies.

May the Holy One, Blessed be He, bind up the soul of DAVID LEVINE with those of the rightous.

My fondest recollection of David is his sense of humor and his integrity, even in the middle of a hotly contested comp case. David, you are missed, and we are enriched for your presence and diminished by your loss.

Dear Donna -
David was always so nice to me. When I worked in the same office building he would occasionally pop his head in just to say hi and make sure all was well. My dad (Ben Levy) always had such wonderful things to say about David which helped me get to know him even better. I am so sorry for your loss and my thoughts will be with you.
Love,
Ashley Falk

Dear Donna,

I was shocked to read about David's death. I've been out of touch with Workers compensation for nine years, but among my most vivid memories are of David. He was a always pleasant, very firm in his representation, but also reasonable to work with. He was a "friend" whose memory I will cherish. My wife, Evelyn, and I will be at the funeral service.
