SANTEIRO, GERARDO JAVIER (JERRY) We are deeply saddened by the death of Jerry Santeiro on Thursday, September 5, 2013. The great-great grandson of Gerardo Machado (the 5th President of Cuba), Jerry was born in Havana, Cuba March 11, 1951, and immigrated to Miami with his family in 1960. He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in 1968, earned his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1972 and an MBA from Florida International University in 1980. Jerry's early career included 24 years at Florida Power & Light Company, most notably as External Affairs Manager. Most recently, and for the past seven years, he was Executive Director of the Guardianship Program of Dade County. Passionate about life and living in Miami, Jerry was actively involved in numerous organizations throughout the community, and capably served as Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Chair; Alliance for Aging, Inc. Chair; Coral Gables Community Foundation Chair; Rotary Club of Coral Gables President and in leadership positions on the boards of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ Community Arts Program. After serving several years on the Senior Advisory Council for the City of Coral Gables, Jerry was recently appointed by Coral Gables Mayor Jim Cason to the City of Coral Gables Advisory Board on Disability Affairs. Jerry, predeceased by his father, Luis Santeiro, is survived by his partner, John Carson; his mother, Maria Grau Santeiro; daughter, Christina Santeiro-Toole (Jason); granddaughters, Nina Isabella and Lourdes Elena Toole; sisters, Lourdes Gaztambide (Mario) and Mequi Santalla (Juan); brothers, Luis M. Santeiro, Francisco Santeiro (Jeanette), and Carlos Santeiro (Dani); and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Jerry will be particularly remembered for his dry and quick-witted sense of humor; for tirelessly and selflessly giving his time and talent to the Coral Gables community he loved so much; and for his infectious love of life and for the people who filled his world. Visitation and a celebration of Jerry's life will be held Monday, September 9, 2013, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Stanfill Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ, 3010 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables, Florida 33134. Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's name to Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ or to the Coral Gables Congregational UCC Community Arts Program.

Nine years ago Jerry left us way to soon. There are times we hear a phrase or see something that reminds us of our good friend. Jerry had a quick wit and his off the cuff remarks made us smile and sometimes moan. To this day Steve and I say, "Jerry would say something like that!" Jerry you may be gone but you are not forgotten. John, you had a good partner in life. Steve & Dwight
