I was saddened to see notice of Jerry's death in the most recent Allegheny Bulletin. I have always remembered Jerry as a friend, during our college days. I remember the first time we met at 18 years old, in our shared room in the freshman dorm. Little were we to know that we would spend the next 4 years as roommates. We always said that no one else could put up with each of us. I remember seeing Jerry and renewing our friendship at our 25th and 50th reunions. I also remember meeting you and thinking that Jerry had found someone wonderful to spend his life with. You have my deepest sympathy and condolence in what has been a terrible loss. Know that I share your loss and will miss Jerry very much.
Jerry was a great teacher as well as surgeon. He and Jack taught us "patient centered care" before it became a popular code word. He was a true pioneer in the field of joint replacement. I wish I could have worked with him for more than 4 years. Condolences and prayers to your family, my friend
He was such a wonderful doctor , rest in peace Dr. Enis
My heartfelt sympathies to Dr. Enis' family and friends. I was privileged to know Dr. Enis. He was my Dr. and his expertise, generosity and kindness affected my life greatly. I am 20+ pain free years into a hip replacement. I was so grateful to be able to thank him again a couple years ago during a follow up appointment. He is a hero to me, always will be.
Colleen, although we have never met I was deeply saddened to learn of Jerry's passing which I did today in reading the AAOS paper. He was one of my true supports during my residency in Miami. As a former navy man myself I am very appreciative of hi service to our country. he left a positive imprint on the lives of many people through his skill as a surgeon but more importantly as a human being whose kindness and caring above all mattered most. h ewill be truly missed Robert B Murphy M.D. Class of 1977 and Captain Medical Corps United States Navy (ret) Orthopedic Surgery veterans Administration La Jolla California and the University of California San Diego Orthopedic Residency Training Program

Dear Colleen: I was trying to contact Dr. Enis the last time I was in Miami, I asked my niece who lives in Miami to do it for me, and just learned he had passed away. I felt as if I had lost a member of my family. I met him through Dr. Aldo Berti a personal friend. He did a hip replacement 22 years ago and I still have it in fairly good condition. He was a true professional, and the kindest person, I went several times for follow-up consultations and always treated me very kindly which made me feel at home. I live in Lima, Peru I will always miss him. My prayers for him, for you Colleen and for all his family he will me missed forever.

I can remember when I first met him, I think before you even knew him. He was one of a kind. Remember you riding in the jeep in the wind? Until recently, I still had the enormous congratulations

To Dr. Enis' Family,
I just now heard this profound sad news, that Dr. Enis has died. I worked with him for many years at Miami Heart Institute. As doctors go, he was "one of the good guys"! There's a saying amongst nurses, "If you want to know who the best doctors are, just ask one of the nurses." Dr. Enis was the best. Such an amazing surgeon, but more important,...so kind to the patients. We nurses loved him.
Rest in Peace,
Carol Lang, RN
Administrative Nursing Supervisor

Today we celebrate the life of Dr. Jerry Enis, a wonderful, nurturing husband and a loving father. He was a great friend to everyone who knew him. He was a man that embraced life and was an adventurous, fun loving spirit. Also, he was a man that dedicated and spent his entire life bettering the quality of life of his fellow man. He was a decorated hero of the Vietnam War. However, to Diana and I, he is Jerry, a brother with an infectious smile and generous heart. Jerry was our family's patriarch who will continue to live in hearts and we will forever see him through our memories of him and through his children and grandchildren.

Dr. Enis was a compassionate man who epitomized excellence in patient care. He was also a caring friend, always willing to help in a time of need. When our daughter suffered a stroke, he and his kind wife Colleen wasted no time offering their assistance and support, both providing comfort, expertise, and devoted concern during a time of human frailty. This was just one example of many acts loving acts offered in friendship and love.....all too numerous to mention. We feel privileged to have known him, and honored to be even a small part of his life. May he rest in peace. Sincere condolences to Colleen and the entire family, from Alan and Kathy Webb.

Jerry Enis was one of the most genuine persons I have ever known. I first met him in Viet Nam in 1966 where we served together with the 3rd Marine Division, and have known him, admired him and cherished our friendship ever since. Not only a talented surgeon, he was a real doctor who cared deeply for his patients, totally devoting his time and effort to improving their lives
We shared a very close friendship for which I will be forever grateful. Colleen, Carl, Eddie and Heather, Mary and I share in your sorrow but also know that this is a time to celebrate the wonderful
life of a husband and father who brought so much love and humanity into the world. We will miss him greatly.

Jerry Enis was the genuine article--not only a talented orthopaedic surgeon, but a real doctor who cared for his patients deeply and was devoted to improving their lives. I knew him for some 47 years, from Da Nang and Dong Ha Viet Nam through his years in Miami as a dear, dear friend and colleague.
