Dear Bob, Beth and Becky,
Your mother will be honored this year by her Soroptimist friends at our annual Regional Conference to be held in Orlando, 25-27 April 2013. Jane Gailey was well known as a passionate Soroptimist sister who devoted her energies to fulfill our mission: 'to serve and improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world'.
When Jane joined the club in the 1980s, she sponsored a growing organization names Agape, when it was just starting out in trailers. These were used to house women coming out of jail, but needing treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. The club held monthly collections and Jane took clothes and toiletries to the Agape women. The organization moved in the 1990s, and in 2012, new Soroptimist members found them in their new facilities - still helping the same recipients in their needs. Jane was delighted to hear the news, and happy that our club would continue her initiative to bring monthly collections to these women. Jane also liked our new idea to further help the women with possible future employment by starting classes in horticulture and culinary arts. We have lined up some fundraising to hire an instructor who will begin to teach 6 Agape women in May 2013. The course will run for 4 months, and since Jane believed so much in education, the 'best' student to graduate will receive a 'Jane Gailey' Award.
It will be the Soroptimist club's great joy to invite the Gailey family to the Award giving event, which we hope to continue in the future.
The Award is our club's attempt to honor the 25 years your mother was a Soroptimist. We have missed her very much.
Margaret McCaffery, President, in the name of all the members of Soroptimist International of Coral Gales
