KATZ, HAZEL CECILLE, 91, of Miami, FL, passed on July 11, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, NY and attended Erasmus High School and attended Brooklyn College. She married L. Melvin Katz and lived in Miami for 49 years. The Katz family has been in Miami since 1925. Hazel worked as a secretary (civilian) for the Army in New York City during World War II. In Miami, she worked as a secretary for the Vice Principal of Curriculum at South Miami High School. She also held memberships in the Elkettes of Miami 948, Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary and was a member at Temple Beth Am. Hazel is predeceased by brothers Eugene Diamond of Bethlehem, PA and Vernon Diamond of Great Neck, NY and is survived by her husband of 63 years, L. Melvin Katz of Miami, children; Emily Jo Katz of Miami FL, Frank H. (Jan) Katz of Savannah, GA, Terrie Sue (Bryan) Katz) recently of Freehold, NJ , now San Antonio, FL, grandchildren; Donald (Amy) Katz of Atlanta, GA, Sandee Katz (Kody) Wallace of Clearwater, FL, Steven (Rachel) Ghulamani of Gainesville, FL, Harris Katz of Savannah, GA, Scott Katz of Atlanta, GA, great-granddaughter - Sylvia Bluma Katz daughter of Donald (Amy) Katz and sister, Marilyn Hertz of Lauderhill, FL. Services scheduled for 10 AM on Monday, July 14th at Temple Beth Am, 5950 SW 88th St, Miami, FL 33156 with Rabbi Judith Kempler officiating. Burial to follow the services at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Miami. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Temple Beth Am.

May the Holy One, Blessed Be He, bind up Mrs. Katz with all of the other righteous and upright. May her memory inspire all of us to seek the good even when it is concealed. Her soul is a light piercing the darkness.
