So sorry to hear this news. Marlene was an amazing teacher and friend. She helped me gain confidence as a writer, photographer, and a person. She was amazing. Under her tutelage, I learned about viewing and accepting a wider world. I was privileged to have her as a teacher for all three years of high school. I would never have been admited to the college of my choice without her help. She intervened with my family and made high school bearable. I hope I thanked her.
My condolences to all those she touched, for we shall miss her here.

I was so lucky to have had Mrs. Adams for all three years at Gables. She let me on the staff of The Cavaleon in 10th grade and it became my passion as well as my identity in such a large school. We won top awards every year (1970 - 1972) and room 504 was my refuge. My friends who were not on staff would come into 504 during lunch just to talk with her. When I began teaching, I taught at Gables and we became friends as my room was across the hall from 504. She proffered advice as I was so new and needed it! The knowledge she bestowed upon me was invaluable and I became a Journalism and Creative Writing teacher, too. After my teaching career ended, I became a successful and happy freelance writer and thought of her so often. During the ups and and downs of life, moves, etc., I continued to cherish my yearbooks - I was looking at one just last week! She demanded perfection from us but in a nurturing way and we responded. She was one of those teachers we all wished to have and I credit her with instilling that love of academics, writing and literature in me. I am deeply saddened to learn of her passing and mourn you loss. I can still hear her big booming laugh......

I was really saddened to read this! Ms. Adams was our yearbook advisor and my teacher. She was a truly gifted educator who was way ahead of her time. She made Gables a welcoming environment and challenged us to think critically. I credit part of my success as an academic to things that I learned by watching her! My condolences to her family...

Gables in the 60s had some really talented teachers, and Ms. Adams was certainly one of them. Her fellow teachers admired her, her students adored her and everyone loved being around her. Anytime you went past her classroom, there were always ten or fifteen people in there chatting with her. She encouraged all of us to be better people and to make a difference in the world. Rest in peace Ms. Adams, and know how much you will be missed.

Marlene was a wonderful sister, who I will forever miss! We shared so many precious memories together, and we always loved recalling them... and making new ones. I share the pain of loss but joy of remembering with all her family and friends. Marlene, you touched all our lives in so many ways!
