Arthur Ray Rice died peacefully April 26, 2013, in Portland, Ore.

Art was a career military man with a combined 39 years as a flight engineer in the Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, garnering more than 25,000 hours flight time.

A true renaissance man, Art was happiest when he was creating and giving or doing for others. From woodworking to photography, he left a legacy of beauty for those who knew him. He will be sorely missed.

Dad,
Your life was an inspiration to me in ways you will never know this side of Heaven. I found love, laughter, joy, hope and delight in being your daughter.
Though the days ahead are tinged with sadness, they are filled with so much love. You taught me so many things that I was blessed to share with you in the times we spent together.
I will remember most of all your love for others and your commitment to Duty, Honor and Country. Your legacy of Service to others was played out in the lives of your children and grandchildren.
From you, I learned acceptance through difficulties was the greatest gift we can share. I never want to forget those moments of being held in your arms, from the first memory I have at age 4, to the last one at age 53.
Your world was seen at times through a photographers lens, but was felt with a somewhat stoic Mainer's heart.
From your earliest days according to your Mom's writings in your baby book you were curious about this world, found it by working with your hands in woodworking, the land, mechanics of an engine, in flying and documented your life with a legacy of photography.
You embodied a spirit of life filled with human mistakes, human love, a code of honor, friendships that lasted decades, in the faith of your forefathers, and a legacy of service to country that endures to this day and forever.
I will miss your laugh, your smile, delight in simplicity, your code of ethics, your teasing humor, and most of all your love.
I will see you on the other side and dance once again with you in heaven.
Forever your loving daughter,
AKA Sis,
Brenda
