Deeply sorry to have missed the memorial...We worked together at the EFD, manned the first aid cars the dep't had. We flew together. He loved to go up in the mountains. His wit and sense of humor were legendary. I can remember one fire call where someone was trying to kick a door in. Bill said, "why didn't you try the knob" and calmly turned it and walked in. He truly was one of a kind. I am very sorry for your loss, our loss. He will be missed...

My Dad, I can't wait to see you again in the New World. It will be my happiness to greet you with my family and see you in great health, and see you smile once again. Then we can greet Grandpa and Gramma Hershaw back. What a beautiful day that will be.

My Dad was one of those people who could light a room with his smile and jokes. He knew how to tease and make everyone laugh. We spoke a lot of his life during the last month of his life. He mentioned that if he died, he would have done and accomplished everything he ever wanted. His life was good and happy. He often spoke of how proud he was of his sons, Tyler and Trevor. How all his children were successful both in house and family. He loved all of us. The love you Babe that would light my heart, ever since I was a little girl feeling the tingling of his beard when he came back from hunting, or putting his cold hands on our back when he came home from work to hear us giggle and squeal. We learned the important things in life from Dad. Like words matter, as he always said Your words affect people. Much like the bibles saying words are like a sword. We thought we lost Dad 9 years ago, when he was getting a triple bi-pass. He died on the table at that time, but the doctors, thank god retrieved him. I asked Dad what it felt like when he passed, he said he felt at peace. Dad was good and being upbuilding, through the years he had become a lot more able to express himself, and in being more open all of us kids felt even closer to him. He truly valued the time we came down and spent with him. And He was glue that kept us together and strong, when we were lost and a light to guide us. I look at the crab we have in the freezer. From our time with Dad on the boat. It represents so much more than just crab. It's my Dads way of showing us he loved us, and spending time with us giving us irreplaceable memories. That's who he was, he was someone who knew life was too short to waste, not showing love and tenderness to one another. He is our guide on moral value, forgiveness, and leading a life where we make a difference by our actions and our love. He lives in us, strongly and forever our strength and engraved words in our hearts.
