Kaufman, Herbert E.

Herbert E. Kaufman passed away peacefully Thursday morning February 6th at Tidwell Hospice House, the son of Herbert F. and Ann Kaufman. He was born in Cleveland Ohio. He was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland and Purdue University School of Engineering. In the army during World War II he received serious injury in Germany and spent many months in field hospitals in Germany and France with final rehabilitation in the United States. He received the purple heart. He married Diana Lewis in Lorain Ohio in 1950. His company transfers took him to Akron, Ohio; Charleston, West Virginia; back to Cleveland and the final assignment in Sarasota, Florida. He was instrumental in the acceptance of PVC pipe on the West Coast of Florida. He and Diana enjoyed traveling and spent many months over the years driving on their own throughout Europe. He was a member and usher of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for over 43 years. He retired from Manville Corporation after 35 years and then was active in real estate for 15 years. He is survived by his wife Diana; son Christopher (Patricia); daughter Kathryn; sister Shirley Edman (William); brother-in-law Daniel Lewis, brother-in-law Jonathan Lewis (Amanda), grandsons Jonathan Henry and Edward Kaufman, granddaughters Diana O'Connell and Kimberly Kaufman-Klein (Patrick) and many great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 12th. Burial services will be held February 12th. at 1:30 pm at the VA Sarasota National Cemetery with a reception following at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church Hall at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidwell Hospice or St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. He was devoted to his Lord and God, his family, friends and country, the greatest on earth.
