Phyllis M. Heslet, age 81, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at her home. She was born December 21, 1936 in Cambria Township to Joseph and Veda (Waters) Reiniche. Phyllis married Norman Heslet on June 17, 1983 and he preceded her in death in 1994.
Phyllis graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian in 1954. She received a BA degree from Siena Heights University in 1954 and a BA degree in English Education and French from Barry University in Miami in 1965. Phyllis was a Dominican Nun at Siena Heights and Catholic school elementary teacher in Michigan, Florida, Virginia and West Virginia. After she retired from teaching, she worked for Pioneer Transformer, Savorino's Market, Hillsdale County Clerks Office and Alson's Corporation. Phyllis was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling, flower gardening and painting. Phyllis will be remembered for her infectious laugh and her favorite saying, "I don't know about you".
Survivors include a daughter, Twila Heslet of Tennessee; son, Stanley (Jenny) Heslet of Chicago; five grandchildren, Steven Mercer of Lake City, Florida, Norman (Krysti) Heslet of Clayton, Matthew Heslet of Onsted, Amanda Heslet of Rankin, Illinois and Justin Heslet of Adrian; six great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Zakerie, Paige, Ashlyn, Bryson and Austin; sister, Joyce Stone of Tecumseh; brother, Larry Reiniche of Reading; two godsons, William and Carl Schultz and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Norman and Bernice and her brother, Earl Reiniche.
Mass of Christian Burial for Phyllis Heslet will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. David Reamsnyder officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
