Robert Berghuis, age 86, of Saugatuck, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Hospice House of Holland.
Bob was born in Kalamazoo, MI and attended State High School.
Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in Okinawa as a Seabee, during WWII. Bob was a Michigan State Trooper for 25 years until his retirement in 1979. He was also a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Saugatuck, MI.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dottie, in 2011.
Surviving are his children, Susan and Arnie Boyd of Traverse City, Michael and Vicki Berghuis of Saugatuck, and Gordon and Ginna Berghuis of Saugatuck; grandchildren, Shawn and Karin Boyd, Barbara and Steve Gilbert, Adam Berghuis, Stu Berghuis, Abi Berghuis; great-grandchildren, Cameron Boyd, Taylor Boyd, Samantha Gilbert, Dylan Gilbert, Irie Mae Van Lente, and Wyatt Van Lente. A special thank you to Sara, Phil, and Deadra, for the love and care of our dad.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 252 Grand Street, with the Rev's. Corwin Stoppel and David Blauw officiating. Private committal service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck. No visitation is scheduled.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland, Wishbone Pet Rescue, or All Saints Episcopal Church Endowment Fund. Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Saugatuck Chapel. For an online registry, visit dykstrafuneralhome.com.
