Farewell Fritz. You were one of a kind and the last of “old Banff”. I'll always remember the hikes you did with Thor, Jon and me during our days at the Banff Centre—filling our wildflower-ID deficiencies (remember those wood ticks at Aylmer Lookout…“Bugger!”). And those wonderful evenings with the Bow Valley Naturalists following the annual Christmas Bird Count, even though you always thought that Halle and my count of 700+ mallards in Canmore was “disgusting.”
I'll cherish our final meetings around Catharine's trestle table in 2004, and that hot day at the Wilmer rec grounds in your 98th year when we honoured Conrad Kain (I'll never forget you “bouncing” across the field with your walker to grab a bratwurst). And most of all, I'm happy that you found your paradise in B.C.

Dear Carole and Family,
We've never met but I am an old friend of Aileen's from Banff days. However, I first met Aileen in August 1971 when we traveled on a Northern Parks tour organized and led by Dr. James ( Jim ) Thorsell though CPAWS's predecessor NPPAC. Since that time I had the pleasure of hiking a few times with her in Banff and latterly visiting her at Mill Bay some years ago now. I last spoke to her around Christmas Time in 2013...and was going to call this year...but sadly did not.
She and I shared some wonderful areas of the world to which we had both visited...independent of each other...the best area I can recall was her trip on the Omo River and I knew she had passed below an escarpment from which I viewed this river on a month-long Ethiopian Tour I did with 4 other friends back in 2007.
I treasure the old hand written Christmas letters she shared with her many friends...I was re-reading a couple of these as I addressed the 2014 Christmas Letter and card I sent this year to her home in Mill bay....not sure of course if she was well enough to have read it.
Missing you Aileen.....travel well my old friend where ever your new journey takes you !
